<p>This is a recording of a public yam counting ritual in Rouku village, Western Province, Papua New Guinea. The counting of crops took place in preparation of wedding. The wedding feast took place in Morehead/Garaita later in the year. Several clans from Rouku contributed their share of yams. Two days later the crop was transported to Morehead and other clans their share.</p> <p>AN EXCERPT OF THIS DATASET CAN BE STREAMED AT VIMEO:&nbsp;<a href="https://vimeo.com/21058525">https://vimeo.com/21058525</a></p> <p>The material was recorded by Christian D&ouml;hler as part of a language documentation project for his PhD. The project was located at the <a href="http://chl.anu.edu.au/">School of Culture, History and Language</a> at the <a href="http://anu.edu.au">Australian National University, Canberra</a>. For the most part it was funded by the <a href="http://dobes.mpi.nl/">DOBES project</a> of the <a href="https://www.volkswagenstiftung.de/en/foundation">Volkswagen Foundation</a>.</p>
