Figure 11. Cover of Michener's 1954 treatise on the bee fauna of Panama. Much of the material which formed the basis for this monograph was collected while Mich was deployed to the Gorgas Memorial Laboratory, Panama during the mid-1940s and engaged in work for the U.S. Army. Mich's time in Panama was his first major experience working with a tropical bee fauna and he was greatly aided by advice and identifications from the late Padre Jesus S. Moure (1912–2010), among others.
