The two shells are grouped with the Cearachelyini and are found in the same units as Galianemys, the Cenomanian Kem Kem beds of Morocco, and may be the shells of one or both species of this genus. The addition of these shells to the matrix also moves Elochelys from the Foxemydina to the Kurmademydini, reflecting the few characters supporting Elochelys as a member of the Foxemydina.
