Beyond the Human: Exploring Non-Spatial Becomings in Warhammer 40k (video essay)

Video essay created to compensate for a cancelled talk at the Warhammer Conference, Heidelberg and online, September 27-28, 2024

It explores the profound philosophical implications of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, proposing a radical reconceptualization of ontology. Through an examination of space, time, consciousness, and the mind-matter relationship in 40k, it challenges traditional philosophical frameworks and introduces the concept of "un-human becomings."

The presentation delves into how Warhammer 40k's unique elements—such as the Warp, Necrons, and the Tyranid Hivemind—push beyond conventional understandings of existence, offering new perspectives on reality that transcend human-centric philosophies. It suggests that these fictional concepts may serve as a prescient glimpse into future philosophical paradigms.

-------

Sources for the images and videos will be added in October 2024.

Voice-over by "Killian, The Vampire" created with typecast.ai.
Music by Guilherme Bernardes William from Pixabay.
