Video adhesion test
<p>Together with the cooperation partners of <strong>Biocombs4Nanofibers</strong>, researchers at <strong>RWTH </strong>and<strong> JKU</strong> demonstrated that the calamistrum (a comb of specialized setae at the hind leg) of cribellate spiders (like the garden center spider <em>Uloborus plumipes</em>) minimizes van der Waals attractive forces due to a nanostructuring on the setae, reducing contact with nanofibers. Using a nanosecond UV laser, project partner <strong>JKU</strong> succeeded in recreating these nanostructures on artificial surfaces (PET). The resulting laser-induced periodic surface structures (LIPSS) minimize the adhesion of nanofibers similar to the biomimetic model.</p>
