Measurements of the holotype of C. p. randi published by Tate (1951) probably slightly underestimate the true size of that taxon. Examination of the holotype (AMNH no. 105636) reveals that the molars are heavily worn (Ken Aplin, pers. comm.), making them appear shorter.
