(Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1,</strong></a> <strong>number 734 here with notations and hyperlinks].</strong></li> </ul> <p>1099</p> <p>Ḥâshiya-i-Dâ’î ( حاشيۀ داعى).</p> <p>Another old commentary on the mathnawî, also styled simply شرح مثنوى or كتاب حاشيۀ مثنوى ( the book of glosses to the mathnawî), at the end of the first three daftars (on ff. 72<sup>a</sup>, 92<sup>a</sup> and 114<sup>a</sup> respectively), compiled by Niżâm-aldîn Maḥmûd bin al-Ḥasan al-ḥusainî of Shîrâz, with the takhalluṣ Dâ’î, who according to the statement in A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 387, was born A.H. 815 (A.D. 1412), but according to the more correct wording of the phrase in question in Bodleian Cat., No. 883, A.H. 810 (A.D. 1407, 1408), and collected his dîwân A.H. 865 (A.D. 1460, 1461), when he was 55 years old ( پنجاه و پنج, as is distinctly written there).</p> <p>Other copies of this commentary are noticed in A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 494; Hammer, Handschriften, No. 126 (where the contents are given), and W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 792 (a number of fragments only); lithographed at Lucknow, A.H. 1282.</p> <p>Beginning: اللّهمّ صلّ على السيّد الفتّاح الخاتم محمّد مصطفى و آله المرتضى و بارك و سلّم ‘ عزيز من اين ناگزيريست معنوى بر موارد مثنوى كه از قلم داعى الخ.</p> <p>Daftar I, on fol. 1<sup>b</sup>; II, on fol. 72<sup>a</sup>; III, on fol. 92<sup>a</sup>; IV, on fol. 114<sup>a</sup>; V, on fol. 152<sup>a</sup>; VI, on fol. 198<sup>a</sup>.</p> <p>Dated the 12th of Sha’bân A.H. 1128=A.D. 1716, Aug. 1 (so correctly سنۀ ١١٢٨ هجرى ; in the additional words يكهزار و بيست و هشت هجرى النبوى there is omitted by mistake وصد after يكهزار), by Jân Muḥammad, the son of ‘Abd-alfattâḥ Gujarâtî Bîjâpûrî (the learned expounder of the mathnawî, who died A.H. 1090=A.D. 1679, see Rieu iii. p. 1090<sup>a</sup>), who transcribed the first two daftars from a copy made by one of the most intimate pupils of his father, ‘Abd-alfattâḥ, Mîr Muḥammad Shâh.</p> <p>No. 734, ff. 281, ll. 25; excellent Nasta’lîḳ; size, 16<sup>1/4</sup> in. by 9<sup>1/4</sup> in.</p> <p> </p>
