(Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1,</strong></a>&nbsp;<strong>number 287 here with notations and hyperlinks].</strong></li> </ul> <p>1118</p> <p>Another copy of the same.</p> <p>This copy of Sa&rsquo;d&icirc;&rsquo;s Kulliyy&acirc;t, the next in age to the preceding one, contains:</p> <p>1.The preface of &lsquo;Al&icirc; bin Aḥmad bin Ab&ucirc;bakr B&icirc;sut&ucirc;n (or even <em>bin</em> B&icirc;sut&ucirc;n, see Rieu ii. p. 596<sup>b</sup>, and G. Fl&uuml;gel i. pp. 529 and 530), who collected and arranged Sa&rsquo;d&icirc;&rsquo;s works between A.H. 726 and 734 (A.D. 1326-1334), comp. Bacher, Sa&rsquo;d&icirc;-Studien, pp. 82 and 83, and Rosen&rsquo;s remarks about it, Persian MSS., p. 175 sq. It begins, on fol. 1<sup>b</sup>: شكر و سپاس معبودى را جلّت قدرته الخ, and has been translated into English by J.H. Harington, in his Introduction to the Calcutta edition of the Kulliyy&acirc;t, pp. 24-26.</p> <p>2.Eight ris&acirc;las, the <em>first</em> of which is wrongly styled here در مجلس پنجگانه (a title belonging properly to the second), and is simply identical with the usual first ris&acirc;lah در تقرير ديباچه (comp. the following copies, and see Bacher, loc. cit., p. 84), beginning, on fol. 3<sup>b</sup>:</p> <p>سپاس بی غايت و ستايش بى نهايت الخ ; the <em>second</em> (in five مجلس, on ff. 6<sup>b</sup>, 8<sup>b</sup>, 11<sup>b</sup>, 13<sup>a</sup>, and 15<sup>b</sup>) contains, as in the preceding copy, the five homilies, and begins with the introductory ḳaṣidah (which is left out there): الحمد لله الذى خلق الوجود من العدم الخ ; the <em>third</em> is the usual one, رسالۀ صاحب ديوان or در سؤال صاحب ديوان, beginning, on fol. 21<sup>b</sup>: خواجۀ زمان نيكو سيرت الخ; it has been translated into English by Harington, Introduction, pp. 14-17, and into German by Graf, Lustgarten, ii. pp. 136-142; the <em>fourth</em> (also the usual one), در عقل و عشق, begins, on fol. 23<sup>b</sup>: سالك راه خدا پادشۀ ملك الخ ; the <em>fifth</em> (likewise the usual one), در نصيحة الملوك, begins , on fol. 25<sup>b</sup>: الحمد لله الكافى حسب الخلائق وحده الخ ; the text has been edited by Latouche (Zenker ii. 484); and by Barb (Vienna, 1856); the <em>sixth</em>, on fol. 32<sup>b</sup>, is styled here رسالۀ ملاقات اباقا , is identical with the <em>first story</em> of the usual sixth ris&acirc;lah, Sa&rsquo;di&rsquo;s interview with Sulṭ&acirc;n Ab&acirc;ḳ&acirc;, and begins: شيخ سعدى رحمة الله عليه فرمود الخ ; it has been translated into English by Harington, Introduction, pp. 17-19, and into German by Graf, Lustgarten, ii. pp. 142-146; the <em>seventh</em>, on fol. 33<sup>b</sup>, is styled رساله در نصيحت و رغبت پروری (in the colophon simply نصائح), is identical with the <em>second story</em> (in some copies the <em>third story</em>) of the usual sixth ris&acirc;lah, the نصيحت انكيانو or رسالۀ انكيانو, Sa&rsquo;di&rsquo;s advice to Aukiy&acirc;n&ucirc;, the Moghul governor of F&acirc;rs, A.H. 667-670 (A.D. 1268-1272), and begins: معلوم شد كه خسرو عادل دام دولته الخ ; the <em>eighth</em>, on fol. 35<sup>b</sup>, is styled رساله در فوائد سفر , is identical with the حكايت ملك شمس الدين تازيگو, or Sa&rsquo;di&rsquo;s anecdote relating to Malik Shams-ald&icirc;n, the chief revenue-collector or lord-lieutenant of F&acirc;rs since A.H. 676 (A.D. 1277), and begins: در زمان حكومت ملك عادل مرحوم شمس الدين الخ ; it has been translated into English by Harington, Introduction, pp. 19-21, and into German by Graf, Lustgarten, ii. pp. 146-148.</p> <p>3.Gulist&acirc;n, on fol.36<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>4.B&ucirc;st&acirc;n (here styled again سعدى نامه), on fol. 107<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>5.Arabic ḳaṣ&icirc;das, on fol. 207<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>6.Persian ḳaṣ&icirc;das, on fol.214<sup>b</sup>, preceded by a فهرست, on fol. 213<sup>b</sup>; beginning as in the preceding copy.</p> <p>7.Mar&acirc;th&icirc;, on fol. 242<sup>b</sup>, preceded by a فهرست, on fol. 242<sup>a</sup>; they begin here: دل شكسته كه مرهم نهد دگر بارش الخ (Calcutta ed., fol. ٢٤٥).</p> <p>8.Mulamma&rsquo;&acirc;t, on fol. 247<sup>b</sup>, preceded by a فهرست on fol. 247<sup>a</sup>; they begin: تو خون خلق بريزى و روى در تابى الخ.</p> <p>9.Tarj&icirc;&rsquo;&acirc;t, on fol. 249<sup>b</sup>, beginning: اى زلف تو الخ (see the preceding copy, fol. 349<sup>a</sup>).</p> <p>10.Ṭayyib&acirc;t, on fol. 262<sup>b</sup>, preceded by a فهرست, on fol. 256<sup>b</sup>; they begin: اوّل دفتر بنام ايزد دانا الخ (Calcutta ed., fol. ٣٦٤).</p> <p>11.Bad&acirc;&rsquo;i&rsquo;, on fol. 366<sup>b</sup>, preceded by a فهرست , on fol. 363<sup>b</sup>; beginning as in the preceding copy.</p> <p>12.Khaw&acirc;t&icirc;m, on fol. 412<sup>b</sup>, preceded by a فهرست, on fol. 410<sup>b</sup>; they begin: سپاس و حمد بي پایان خدارا الخ (Calcutta ed., fol. ۴١٥).</p> <p>13.Ghazaliyy&acirc;t-i-ḳad&icirc;m (غزليّات قديم), or early ghazals (wanting in the preceding copy), on fol. 430<sup>b</sup>, preceded by a فهرست, on fol. 429<sup>b</sup>; they begin : اى يار ناگزير كه دل در هواى تست الخ (Calcutta ed., fol. ۴٣٠).</p> <p>14.Ṣ&acirc;ḥibiyyah (صاحبيّه), or epigrammatic poems (wanting in the preceding copy), on fol. 437<sup>b</sup>, beginning with the prose-introduction:الحمد لله على نعمه الخ (Calcutta ed., fol. ۴٣٨). Initial bait of the first poem:</p> <p>نگين ختم رسالت محمّد عربى</p> <p>شفيع روز قيامت محمّد مختار</p> <p>In other copies this poem is found among the Muḳaṭṭa&rsquo;&acirc;t, see, for instance, No. 1121 in this Cat., fol. 345<sup>a</sup>, first line. These poems have been edited and translated into German by Bacher in &lsquo;Sa&rsquo;di&rsquo;s Aphorismen und Sinngedichte,&rsquo;Strassburg, 1879.</p> <p>15.Khab&icirc;th&acirc;t (خبيثات), or obscene poems, identical with the Muṭ&acirc;yab&acirc;t of the preceding copy (as they are styled here too at the end of the part), and beginning with the same lines in prose, on fol. 462<sup>b</sup>. Initial bait of the first poem: عارفى چشم دل بروى داشت الخ (corresponding to the seventh poem in the preceding copy, fol. 363<sup>b</sup>, and the initial poem in Nos. 681 and 747 of the Bodleian Cat.)</p> <p>16.Hazliyy&acirc;t (هزليّات), i.e. the mock homilies, called in the preceding copy مجلس هزل, in three مجلس, on ff. 472<sup>b</sup>, 476<sup>b</sup>, and 478<sup>b</sup>. Beginning of the first: اللّعين الشيطان الخ (Calcutta ed., ff. ۴٧٥-۴٨٠).</p> <p>17.Muḍḥik&acirc;t (مضحكات), or comic pieces in prose, on fol. 480<sup>b</sup>, beginning: شخصى از فقيهى سؤال كرد الخ ( Calcutta ed., fol. ۴٨١).</p> <p>18.Rub&acirc;&rsquo;iyy&acirc;t, on fol. 482<sup>b</sup>, beginning: هر ساعتم اندرون بجوشد خون را الخ.</p> <p>19.Fardiyy&acirc;t (فرديّات), or Mufrad&acirc;t, on fol. 494<sup>b</sup>, beginning: وربّ غلام صائم بطنه خلا الخ (corresponding to fol. 374<sup>a</sup>, l. 7, in the preceding copy).</p> <p>This copy, in which the Muḳaṭṭa&rsquo;&acirc;t are wanting, is dated end of Muḥarram, A.H. 819 (A.D. 1416, March 30).
