Fig. 3. Identification of NsTPS1 products after heterologous expression in E. coli. (A) Analysis of terpene products of NsTPS1 after incubation with the substrate GDP. The lower trace shows the products of the empty vector control construct with the same in vitro assay conditions. Terpenes were extracted with an SPME fiber and analyzed by GC-MS as described in the methods section. The following terpenes were identified: 1, α-pinene/α-phellandrene, 2, β-ocimene, 3, β-pinene, 4, α-terpinene, 5, p- cymene, 6, limonene, 7, γ-terpinene, 8, α-terpinolene, 9, geraniol. Geraniol is just an artifact of the in vitro assay, it is not a specific product of the g-terpinene synthase.
