Palmer Corner-Notched

This small stone projectile point with a flat base and U-shaped notches is known as a Palmer Corner-Notched. Palmer points were used as spear or dart points and date to the Early Archaic period (c. 8000-7000 BC). Palmer points are closely related to the slightly later Kirk Corner-Notched point and are usually distinguished based on their smaller size and less pronounced tangs. This artifact was found at a multi-component site (31WA2199) in eastern Wake County, NC and is made from a metavolcanic stone commonly called rhyolite. It measures 2.3 cm long, 1.8 cm wide, and 0.55 cm thick. This model was constructed by David Cranford with 70 photos using the Agisoft Metashape software.
