Idol, Sculpture, Herdade do Vidigal, Portugal

Provenance and description: This is an idol from the archaeological site of Herdade do Vidigal (a prehistoric habitat). This is a prehistoric ceramic idol that fits into a vast universe of "ritual" objects from the southwest of the Iberian peninsula. These idols were produced in various materials such as bone, ivory, pottery or limestone. His representations are always of an anthropomorphic character with a diverse anatomical treatment, but always with the marking of incisions in the face, commonly interpreted as facial tattoos.
