4664 BM Demeter Torch
This is a 3D model of a Roman marble statue, located in the British Museum. Excavated from a findspot in Athens, this sculpture depicts Demeter (Ceres), the Greek (Roman) goddess of the harvest, holding a torch. The statue rests on a Roman funerary altar, not shown in the 3D model. Her nose and head covering (*stephane*) have been restored. Demeter was commonly shown carrying a torch, as she searched for her daughter Persephone when she was abducted by Hades. **Bibliography**: [British Museum](https://bit.ly/3e0XDZ9); [Ancient History Encyclopedia](https://bit.ly/3aLNWeU) #Ancient World 3D This model posting is part of Ancient World 3D, a website that provides curated 3D open access content for Classical Studies.
