Al terminar el control de las medidas se acceder al nido del Carpinterito (Dryobates lignarius). colocaba el pedazo del tronco y luego se recubría con greda, así se oscurecía totalmente la cavidad. Este nido fue utilizado por cinco temporadas, hasta que un Pitio (Colaptes pitius) agrando la abertura para tratar de usurparlo, pero luego este no fue usado por ninguna de las dos especies.

Figura. 6B. Polluelo macho de Carpinterito de 14 días de edad donde las plumas de la espalda comenzaban a abrir las vainas. El culmen ya oscureciéndose, sin diente de huevo, los rebordes de la comisura en su tamaño máximo, los colores de las plumas de la corona ya notorios en ambas pistas de plumas de la cabeza. La línea sin plumas, entre las dos pistas de plumas de la cabeza, bajo la piel es donde se localiza el principio y por ahí pasa la extensa lengua retráctil típica de los carpinteros.
