WWV 15 MHz reception test -- 60 minutes starting at 1937 UTC, July 25, 2017.

<p>Steven Reyer, WA9VNJ.  Approx.Lat/Long:  43.218, -87.951.  This 60-minute 15 MHz WWV recording was started at 1937 UTC on July 25, 2017, in preparation for the Solar Eclipse experiment in late August.</p> <p>The radio is a Yaesu FT-857D locked to a Trimble Thunderbolt GPSDO using an XRef-FT oscillator interface.  Antenna is an RF-PRO-1B shielded magnetic loop, aimed N-S.  Calibration of the radio and sample rate correction is determined using a second Trimble Thunderbolt GPS and Rigol DG1022Z GPS-locked signal generator.</p> <p>Spectrum Lab software is used to record the WAV file and to analyze incoming audio with sample rate of 11025 Hz.  FFTs are 512k-point, 75% overlapping, yielding a new measurement every 12 seconds.  Radio is tuned to 14999.00 kHz USB yielding audio around 1kHz (labeled "PeakFreq" in the txt file).  Thus, the measured radio frequencies are near 15000 kHz.  Calibration tests show that the audio frequency measurements are approximately 0.0384 Hz high, due the approximations in both the radio's DDS and the sample rate.  This 0.0384 Hz number can be subtracted from the PeakFreq values to get corrected audio frequencies, which can then be added to the 14999 kHz number.</p>

Digital Elevation Models of Hunga Volcano, Tonga, from the MAX2201 voyage, July-August 2022

<p>This dataset contains digital elevation models (DEM) of the Hunga Volcano complex, These DEM are from the MAX2201 voyage of the USV <i>Maxlimer</i> which surveyed the volcano July-August 2022.</p><p>Hunga Volcano is a volcanic complex near the island of Tongatapu in the Kingdom of Tonga. The volcano rises from ~2,500 m depth, a caldera at its summit, and two islands, Hunga Tonga and Hunga-Ha'apai, at the on the rim of the caldera. An eruption during December 2014-January 2015 was centered between the islands and combined them into one larger structure named Hunga Tonga – Hunga Ha'apai (HTHH). &nbsp;HTHH erupted violently on 15th January 2022, sending large clouds of ash into the atmosphere, triggering a tsunami, and reducing the size of the islands of Hunga Tonga and Hunga Ha'apai.&nbsp;</p><p>As a result of this event, the NIWA-Nippon Foundation Tonga Eruption Seabed Mapping Project (<strong>TESMaP</strong>) is a multidisciplinary research plan involving geological, oceanographic and biological studies that centered around three objectives:&nbsp;</p><ol><li>To determine the impacts of volcanic ash on ocean productivity, species composition, and biogeochemical cycling in the water column.</li><li>To determine the immediate nature and extent of the impact of ash fall/turbidity flows on deep-sea sediments and benthic ecosystems.</li><li>To determine the recovery potential of the deep-sea ecosystem.</li></ol><p>This project involved two survey voyages of the volcano and its surrounding waters. The first was carried out from <i>RV Tangaroa&nbsp;</i>(TAN2206) in April and May 2022 (Mackay et al., 2022) on the flanks of Hunga volcano and its surrounds; and the second was carried out over the summit of Hunga volcano by the <i>USV Maxlimer</i> (MAX2201) in August 2022.</p><p>TESMaP was funded from a combination of sources including The Nippon Foundation, Japan; the Natural Environmental Research Council, UK, Japan Agency for Marine Earth Science and Technology, the Tangaroa Reference Group (TRG) for ship time and the NIWA Oceans Centre. Support was given by The Nippon Foundation Seabed 2030 project and by GEBCO Alumni.</p>

Recurring Trans-Atlantic Dust Pathways during June-July

<p>These data represent a self-organizing map (SOM) classification of all trans-Atlantic integrated dust fluxes (IDT) between June-July 1981-2020 as presented in:</p><p><strong>Miller, P. W.,&nbsp;</strong>and C. Ramseyer, In press: The relationship between the Saharan Air Layer, convective environmental conditions, and precipitation in Puerto Rico. <i>Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres</i>.&nbsp;</p><p>Each daily IDT field is paired to one of 12 discrete pathways in idt_bmus_junjul.csv. The mean composite IDT over the tropical North Atlantic for each of these 12 patterns, as well as the mean composite Galvez-Davison Index (ERS_idt_node_gdi_1981_2020_junjul.nc) and mean composite precipitation over Puerto Rico (ERS_idt_node_prcp_1981_2020_junjul.nc) for the same node-date pairings are also provided. Costa Rica mosquito community species occurrence and site environmental data, July - August 2017

<p>Land use change is an important driver of both biodiversity loss and zoonotic disease transmission in tropical countryside landscapes. Developing solutions for protecting biodiversity, public health, and livelihoods in working landscapes requires understanding the spatial scales at which habitat characteristics such as land cover shape biodiversity, especially for arthropods that transmit pathogens. A growing body of evidence shows that species richness for many taxa correlates with tree cover at small spatial scales of &lt;100 m, indicating that local tree cover management is a promising conservation tool. To investigate whether mosquito species richness, community composition, and presence of specific disease vector species respond to tree cover—and if so, whether at spatial scales similar to other taxa—we surveyed mosquito communities along a tree cover gradient and across agricultural, residential, and forested land uses in rural southern Costa Rica. We found that tree cover was both positively correlated with mosquito species richness and negatively correlated with the presence of the common invasive dengue vector <em>Aedes albopictus</em>, particularly at small spatial scales of 80 – 200m<em>. </em>Beyond tree cover, land use type predicted community composition and <em>Ae. albopictus </em>presence, but not species richness. The results suggest that preservation and expansion of tree cover at local scales can protect biodiversity for a wide range of taxa and also confer protection against disease vector occurrence.</p>

Buoy-based detection of low-energy cosmic-ray neutrons (Seelhausener See, July 15 to Dec 02, 2014)

<p>Contains two resources used in Schr&ouml;n &amp; Rasche et al. (2024):</p> <ol> <li><strong>Raw</strong> measurement data files from the buoy detector. Column names are provided in the header of the files. For detailed information about column names and descriptions, see the readme.</li> <li><strong>Processed</strong> measurement data of the buoy detector. Data has been stored as CSV files, the column names are described in `Buoy.csv.readme`. Additional PDF files show the corresponding plots. Two versions of data are provided: <ol> <li><strong>Buoy-1h</strong> contains data aggregated to 1 hour, and</li> <li><strong>Buoy-1h-mavg25</strong> contains the same data but the neutrons underwent a moving average filter with a window size of 25 (1 day).</li> </ol> </li> </ol> <p>Processing has been performed using Corny v0.8.2 (<a title="Corny" href="https://git.ufz.de/CRNS/cornish_pasdy">git.ufz.de/CRNS/cornish_pasdy</a>) with the configuration file <code>Buoy-1h.cfg</code>.</p>
