Quality of Life in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
<p>Quality of life in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) encompasses a complex interplay of factors that significantly influence their well-being and daily functioning. Beyond the core symptoms of social communication challenges and repetitive behaviors, aspects such as sensory sensitivities, executive functioning difficulties, and varying levels of cognitive abilities shape their experiences. Access to early interventions, supportive educational environments, and effective therapies tailored to individual needs can greatly enhance their quality of life. Family dynamics, community acceptance, and societal inclusion also play pivotal roles in promoting a positive outlook for children with ASD, emphasizing the importance of comprehensive, person-centered approaches to support their overall development and happiness.</p>
The relation between deviation from the balanced time perspective and quality of life among older people. The mediating role of death anxiety and the moderating role of awareness of aging
<p><em><span>Objectives</span></em><span>. In the current study, one of the objectives was to check if the deviation from a balanced time perspective (DBTP) is a predictor of the quality of life of the elderly. Another objective investigated whether awareness of aging is a moderator and death anxiety a mediator of the relationship between PTSD and quality of life. <em>Method.</em> 436 elderly people participated in this research (M = 68.27; SD= 6.56; 66.7% female, 33.3% male). They completed 4 instruments to evaluate the variables included in the study: World Health Organization Quality of Life, Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory - Short version, Death Anxiety Scale and Awareness of Age-Related Change 10-Item Short Form (awareness of aging). <em>Results</em>. Statistical analyzes highlighted the fact that DBTP is not a predictor of quality of life, but it can positively predict death anxiety. Also, awareness of aging does not moderate the relationship between DBTP and quality of life. Finally, death anxiety negatively predicts quality of life, but also mediates the relationship between DBTP and quality of life. <em>Discussion</em>. This study brought to the fore some concepts less addressed in the case of the elderly population in Romania, which could lead to the identification of some benefits for improving the quality of life of the elderly. Starting from the conclusions obtained, promotion and intervention plans can be developed to improve mental and physical health services. The inclusion process of the elderly in as many social activities as possible can also be considered.</span></p> <p><strong><span> </span></strong></p>

<p><strong>Background</strong>: A cancer patient's quality of life (QoL) is the perception of their physical, functional, psychological, and social well-being as well as their mental and emotional state. QoL is one of the most important factors to consider when a person is being treated for cancer and during follow-up. The present study aimed to understand the status of QoL of cancer patients and determine the factors affecting it.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong>: This cross-sectional study was conducted among 210 cancer patients attending the oncology unit of a medical college, within a 4-month consecutive time period in 2022. Data were collected by using the Bengali version of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer questionnaire.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong>: The present study reported a high number of female cancer patients (67.6%). Breast cancer was more common among females (31.43%) while lung and upper respiratory tract cancer was among males (19.05). Most of the patients in the present study were diagnosed with cancer in the past year (86.19%). The functional scales' overall mean scores varied from 54.92 for physical functioning to 38.89 for social functioning. The highest symptom scale score was for financial issues (63.02), while the lowest was for diarrhea (33.01). The overall QoL of cancer patients in the present study was 47.98 which was 45.71 for males and 49.10 for females respectively. </p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong>: The overall QoL was poor in cancer patients in the present study compared to the developed countries. There was a low score for QoL for social and emotional function. Financial difficulty was the primary reason behind low QoL in the symptom scale. If the government supports cancer patients by providing subsidies for treatment and health insurance policies, cancer patients will benefit and QoL will improve.</p>
Analysis of symptoms and quality of life of people with prolonged diagnosis of COVID-19, and the efficacy of an intervention in primary care using ICT
<p>This is a ranzomized clinical study called: “Analysis of symptoms and quality of life of people with prolonged diagnosis of COVID-19, and the efficacy of an intervention in primary care using ICT”, approved in mid-2020, with reference number ISRCTN91104012. The main objetive is to analyse the overall effectiveness and cost-efficiency of a mobile application (APP) as a community health asset (HA) with recommendations and recovery exercises created bearing in mind the main symptoms presented by Long COVID patients in order to improve their quality of life, as well as other secondary variables, such as the number and severity of ongoing symptoms, physical and cognitive functions, affective state, and sleep quality. The first step was to design and develop the technologic community resource, the APP, following the steps involved in the process of recommending health assets (RHA). After this, a protocol of a randomised clinical trial for analysing its effectiveness and cost-efficiency as a HA was developed. The participants will be assigned to: (1st) usual treatment by the primary care practitioner (TAU), as a control group; and (2nd) TAU + use of the APP as a HA and adjuvant treatment in their recovery + three motivational interviews (MI), as an interventional group. An evaluation will be carried out at baseline with further assessments three and six months following the end of the intervention. </p>
Lifelong traumatic events, social support, and health-related quality of life among older adults
<p><strong>Purpose</strong>. The present study aimed to investigate the relation between lifelong exposure to traumatic life events and health-related quality of life in a sample of older people. We also assessed the moderating role of social support in the relation between traumatic life events exposure and quality of life. <strong>Method</strong>. A sample of 172 participants (<em>M</em>age = 68.81, <em>SD</em> = 7.15; 68.6% female and 31.4% male) was involved in this study. The participants completed scales measuring lifelong exposure to traumatic events, social support, and health-related quality of life. <strong>Results</strong>. The results showed that lifelong exposure to traumatic events was negatively related to physical functioning, emotional well-being, social functioning, and general health perception. It was also positively related to body pain, role limitations due to physical health problems and role limitations due to personal or emotional problems. Moreover, social support moderated the relation between traumatic life events exposure and dimensions of health-related quality of life. High social support from family contributed to reduced role limitations following trauma exposure, whereas more social support from friends led to poorer emotional well-being. <strong>Discussion</strong>. Geriatric services could identify and implement adequate measured to provide social support and to improve different dimensions of quality of life among older adults.</p>

Quality of life among Romanian Emergency Medicine Personnel during the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Russian–Ukrainian Armed Conflict
<p>The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between threat perception and professional quality of life in a sample of Emergency Medicine Personnel, during the COVID-19 pandemic and during the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian Armed Conflict. Two types of threats were investigated (war threat and pandemic threat) and three indicators of professional quality of life (i.e., secondary traumatic stress, burnout, and compassion satisfaction). The mediating role of worries in the relationship between threat perception and quality of life was also assessed. </p>
