52 COLOR ASTEROID SURVEY V1.0
The observations were made using a double CVF (circularly variable filter). The short wavelength portion of the CVF covered the octave from 0.8 to 1.6 microns with 3 percent resolution, while the long wavelength portion covered 1.5 to 2.6 microns with 5 percent resolution. There is some overlap in the spectral coverage between 1.5 and 1.6 microns, which is evident as a discontinuity in the wavelengths after the first 32 values, which were obtained with the short wavelength portion, while the remaining 20 values were obtained with the long wavelength portion.
ASTEROID DYNAMICAL FAMILIES V3.0
This dataset contains the asteroid dynamical family classifications contained in Zappala, et al. (1995) [ZAPPALAETAL1995]. These are based on the heirarchical clustering method applied to the proper elements of Milani and Knezevic (1994) [MILANI&KNEZEVIC1994]. 12,487 asteroids, numbered and unnumbered, are included.
CI Asteroid Regolith as an In Situ Plant Growth Medium for Space Crop Production
Human expansion into the solar system is currently at the forefront of space research. For our astronauts to survive, they will need to be fed a healthy and nutritious diet on a consistent basis. Right now, our current method of feeding astronauts consists of resupplied prepackaged food from Earth, which is unsustainable for long-term missions. Using planetary resources via in situ resource utilization to grow crops is the next step toward sustainability in space. Asteroids are an abundant space resource and should not be overlooked when considering crewed missions. In particular, the primordial CI carbonaceous asteroids are of interest because the regolith is suggested to contain soluble elemental nutrients, such as phosphorous and potassium, that crops can use for growth and development. We present a study on the ability of CI carbonaceous asteroid regolith simulant to sustain plant growth of lettuce (Latuca sativa), radishes (Raphanus sativus), and peppers (Capsicum annuum). We tested growing the selected crops in increasing mixtures of simulant and peat moss. The results showed that each species reacted differently to each treatment and that the radishes were more affected by the treatments. Subsequent analysis showed that the simulant contains small amounts of plant-usable nutrients, despite its high pH, low cation exchange capacity, and classification as a silt-based soil. Our results indicate that the simulant is prone to compaction and crusting, leading to drought stress on the crops. Further investigations are needed to determine mitigation strategies to make CI asteroid regolith a more conducive soil. This data set derives results from the Image Analysis Photography assay with leaf area measurements. Additional data provided in the sample table includes plant height and biomass measurements as well as a thorough analysis of the substrate including pH, elemental analysis, and soil texture analysis.
ASTEROID LIGHTCURVE DERIVED DATA V9.0
This is a compilation of published rotational parameters derived from lightcurve data for asteroids, through March 2007. In addition to reported rotational parameters by individual paper, there is a summary file with the values adopted by Harris, Warner, and Pravec as the most likely correct values for each asteroid. The data set also contains files listing known rotational information on asteroids with ambiguous periods, binary asteroids, 'tumbling' asteroids, and asteroids with measured spin axes.
NEAR EARTH ASTEROID TRACKING V1.0
The Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking (NEAT) project began as a collaborative effort with the United States Air Force (USAF) in December 1995. It concentrated on the discovery and observations of near-Earth asteroids and comets, collectively called near-Earth objects (NEOs). NEAT ended its observations in April 2007. Throughout its history, NEAT utilized three 1m class telescopes - two on the Hawaiian island of Maui and the 1.2m Oschin Schmidt telescope at Palomar Observatory near San Diego, CA. Three unique cameras were developed and used throughout the program. These data are intended to be usable for photometric analysis of the various objects within the NEAT data. Most nights included calibration data, and the lists of photometric standard calibration fields.
ASTEROID SPIN VECTORS V4.0
This is a tabulation of determinations of asteroid pole orientations gathered from the literature from 1932 through 1995. It is an updated (Dec. 1995) version of the tabulation given in Magnusson (1989) [MAGNUSSON1989] in the Asteroids II book. For more information about the Uppsala Asteroid Database, of which this collection is a part, see Magnusson et al. 1993 [MAGNUSSONETAL1993].
