Exploring the effect of industrial agglomeration on income inequality in China
<p><span>Income inequality is a good indicator reflecting the quality of people's livelihood. There are many studies on the determinants of income inequality. However, few have studied the impacts of industrial agglomeration on income inequality, and even fewer have studied the spatial correlation of income inequality. The goal of this paper is to investigate the impact of China's industrial agglomeration on income inequality from a spatial perspective. Using data on China's 31 provinces from 2003 to 2020 and the spatial panel Durbin model, our results show that industrial agglomeration and income inequality present an inverted "U-shape" relationship, proving that they are non-linear changes. As the degree of industrial agglomeration increases, income inequality will rise; after it reaches a certain value, income inequality will drop. Therefore, the Chinese government and enterprises had better pay attention to the spatial distribution of industrial agglomeration, thereby reducing China's regional income inequality.</span></p>
Use of amino acid isotope analysis to investigate capital versus income breeding strategies in migratory avian species
<p>Income and capital breeding represent opposing ends of a continuum of reproductive strategies. Quantifying nutrient allocation to reproduction is challenging, but recent advances in compound-specific stable isotope analysis hold promise for tracing the source of individual compounds allocated to reproduction. </p> <p>Here, we describe a novel approach of using measured carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) isotope values of individual amino acids (AAs) in pectoral muscle of egg-laying females and egg yolk as a useful tool to quantify the reliance on income versus capital breeding in migrating species. We used white-fronted (<em>Anser albifrons frontalis</em>), lesser snow (<em>A. caerulescens caerulescens</em>), and black brant (<em>Branta bernicla nigricans</em>) geese breeding in tundra ecosystems of northern Alaska as model organisms.</p> <p>All three species relied on mixed capital-income breeding strategies, but models based on AA isotope data estimated higher proportional contributions of endogenous resources to yolk synthesis compared to results based on bulk tissue isotope analyses. </p> <p>Tracing income versus capital nutrient allocation in migratory species at the compound level is a major advance from the current 'elemental' perspective obtained from bulk tissue stable isotope analyses. Our framework is applicable to all taxonomic groups, as long as there is a sufficient spatial or temporal isotopic gradient between resources obtained during the breeding and non-breeding periods.</p>

Strategies and interventions to strengthen pharmacovigilance systems in low- and middle-income countries: A scoping review
<div><strong>Objectives</strong></div> <div>The slow progress of pharmacovigilance (PV) in low-and-middle-income countries (LMIC) raises questions about core challenges on the growth of PV, and the appropriateness of strategies used so far to develop PV. Therefore, this scoping review aims to describe strategies and interventions to strengthen PV in LMIC and to propose recommendations for future investments in PV capacity building.</div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Inclusion criteria</strong></div> <div>Publications included were primary studies, articles, and policy and guideline papers, describing interventions to strengthen PV in LMIC. </div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Methods</strong></div> <div>The review was conducted following the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) guidelines on conducting scoping reviews. Literature searches were performed in MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, PDQ-evidence, CINAHL and relevant websites from 1990 to January 2021. Two reviewers independently screened titles, abstracts and full-texts. One reviewer performed data extraction and descriptive analysis, which were reviewed by two other reviewers.</div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Results</strong></div> <div>10,922 unique titles were screened and 152 were eligible for full text review. Of these, 57 and an additional 13 reports from grey literature fulfilled eligibility criteria for inclusion in the review. These were grouped into two categories: i) Interventions aimed at increasing PV knowledge and adverse drug reactions (ADR) reporting (45 papers), primarily education of healthcare professionals (HCP), alone or in combination with other interventions such as mobile and electronic reporting; ii) Interventions aimed at strengthening various components of the national PV system (25 papers), describing strategies or mixed interventions implemented at the national level, targeting different components of the national PV system.</div> <div> </div> <div><strong>Conclusions</strong></div> <div>Results of this review suggest that educating HCP on ADR reporting is the most common approach to build PV capacity in LMIC. Though important, education alone is insufficient and should ideally be organised within the holistic framework of strengthening national PV systems, with a focus on building capacity for advanced activities such as signal detection.</div>
