<p>Photograph taken from a UAV showing excavations at archaeological site 3 in Kaliszany, Wągrowiec commune, Poland. It is a stone and earth structure in which a hoard of metal objects dating to the Late Bronze Age was discovered in 1943. The photo is from the 2022 survey, when the south-western part of the structure was explored. </p> <p>The paper and data were prepared as part of a project funded by the National Science Centre, Poland: <em>A Biography of Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages Hoards. FTIR spectral library of the major components of archaeological sediments
<p>FTIR spectra of the major components of archaeological sediments. Spectra were collected using a Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS5 spectrometer equipped with an iD1 transmission compartment in the 4000-400 cm-1 range at 4 cm-1 resolution, and in 32 scans. Spectra were collected with the same instrument and settings in ATR mode using an iD7 ATR diamond crystal compartment. Spectra are available in .spa and .csv formats.</p>
Reproducible Research in Archaeology
<p>This is a recording of a presentation given at the workshop on 'Reproducible research in Archaeology' at Durham University on 15th October 2021. The workshop included an introduction to what reproducibility is, why it is important for archaeological research and how you can make your research workflow reproducible. It also included some case studies demonstrating reproducible workflows used in archaeological research. This workshop was organised by Software Sustainability Institute Fellows - Alison Clarke and Emma Karoune. Castell Dinas Bran, Llangollen LiDAR Archaeology
The 13th century castle of Dinas Bran sits on a prominent hill overlooking the Dee Valley to the north of the town of Llangollen. It lies within a much earlier Iron Age hillfort defended by a substantial earthen rampart and ditch on the south, east and west sides. The entrance into the hillfort was at the south west end where the rampart curves inward and there are traces of internal hut platforms on the eastern grassy slope. The castle was probably built sometime between 1260-1270 by the princes of Powys Fadog and perhaps most likely by Gruffydd Maelor II. It was burnt by the Welsh before it was captured in 1277 by Henry de Lacy, earl of Lincoln, during the war with Edward Ist. It was seemingly not repaired after the war and ceased to be used after the 1280s. 1 metre DSM LiDAR data from Natural Resources Wales.
