Deaths and work related occupational injuries detailed at the country, gender, and NACE Rev.2 sector levels from 2008 to 2019

<p>Ensuring social data's reliability is essential in accurately evaluating social and economic impacts across geographical locations, economic sectors and stakeholder categories. Yet, the MRIO model utilized in our research (EXIOBASE) was hindered by out-of-date or significantly proxy fatality statistics, causing potential inaccuracies in our findings. We have comprehensively revised EXIOBASE fatality data to address this shortcoming, incorporating detailed, nation-specific, and up-to-date data. The update includes work-related fatal occupational injuries as well as fatalities associated with occupational exposure to a variety of 17 hazardous substances and conditions such as asbestos, arsenic, benzene, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, diesel engine exhaust, formaldehyde, nickel, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, silica, sulfuric acid, trichloroethylene, asthmagens, particulate matter, gases and fumes, noise and ergonomic factors. Our methodological process is built on three pillars: data acquisition, raw data processing, and computation of fatal injuries by country, gender, year, and EXIOBASE economic sector.</p> <p>Data were sourced from the World Health Organization (WHO) (Pega et al., 2021) and Eurostat databases (Publications Office of the European Union, 2013). The WHO data was carefully screened based on specific criteria such as age above 15 years, gender, and fatal injuries only. Eurostat data provided granular information on work-related fatalities, classified by economic activities in the European Community (or NACE Rev.2 (Eurostat, 2008)). The WHO provided aggregate fatality data for 2010 and 2016. The strategy for allocating these deaths across Eurostat categories depended on the countries' geographical location, with different methods applied to European and non-European nations.</p> <p>For European nations, fluctuations in fatality numbers within a NACE Rev.2 sector mirrored the changes registered by Eurostat. For non-European countries, fatality figures were proportionally allocated across economic sectors split according to the NACE Rev.2 classification, reflecting the workforce size associated with each economic sector. Due to the scarcity of data for nations within Asia, America, or Africa, we adopted a regional approach, computing fatality ratios over each NACE Rev.2 category for each region by integrating data for available countries over a reference year. For 2010 and 2016, the aggregate fatality figures for nations within these three zones were established. Due to the temporal proximity of both reference years, we postulated a linear trend in the fatality count between these two years. The number of fatalities for a specific country, year, and per NACE Rev.2 activity was then calculated by applying the previously mentioned fatality ratio to the total number of deaths for that nation. Change in gender roles as a factor in gender participation and empowerment in the oil mining industry: A case of Lokichar, Turkana county, Kenya

<p><span>This paper analyses a study done by the authors of this paper on changes on gender role as a factor in <em>gender participation and empowerment in the oil mining industry; a case of Lokichar in Turkana County</em>. The paper centres on three null hypothesis tested.</span> <span>The studies target group was the active </span>labour<span> force aged between 15 to 64 years. Those who retired from work were also targeted. The data was collected from a sample of three hundred (300) respondents selected through systematic random and purposive sampling methods. Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and in-depth interviews were conducted to supplement the questionnaires given to the sampled respondents. Chi-square was used to test the hypotheses. Major findings indicate that there is a relationship between</span> equal hiring and equal opportunity for men <span>and women to work in mining activities; </span>there is relationship between involvement in oil mining activities and change in livelihood and there is no relationship between involvement in oil mining activities and equal opportunity for men and women to work in mining activities<span>. Key recommendation include gender mainstreaming in legal frameworks, policies, Bills and programs.</span></p>

Gender equality and hiring process in oil mining companies: A case of Lokichar in Turkana, Kenya

<p><span>This paper centers on the findings of a study done by the authors of this paper in 2019 titled <em>Change in Gender Roles as a Factor in Gender Participation and Empowerment in the Oil Mining Industry: A Case of Lokichar, Kenya</em>. One of the objectives; determining whether the oil mining companies promotes gender equity in Lokichar is explored. The null hypothesis testing on whether </span>there is no relationship between equal hiring and equal opportunity for men <span>and women to work in mining activities is discussed</span>. The data was collected from a sample of three hundred (300) respondents selected through systematic random and purposive sampling methods. The studies target group was the active labour force aged between 15 to 64 years. Those who retired from work were also targeted. Two levels of analysis were adopted: Univariate and Bivariate. Chi-square was used to test the hypotheses. Major finding indicates that there is a relationship between equal hiring and equal opportunity for men and women to work in mining activities. The paper recommends that issues like compensation, decision making, royalty sharing, power relations are well spelt in policies like the Mining Bill (2014) to ensure gender mainstreaming and no ambiguity in interpretation.</p>

Widespread in S Asia (India, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lan-ka), S China (W & S Yunnan), and mainland SE Asia N of the Isthmus of Kra. Descriptive notes. Head-body 68 mm, tail 105 mm, ear 13 mm, hindfoot 17 mm; weight 10 g. The Indomalayan Long-tailed Climbing Mouse is small, with flat nail on outer finger and outertoe; tail is slender, brown, twice as long as head-body length, and lacks distal tuft. Dorsal pelageis silky and salmon in color; venter is white, with fulvous hues. Habitat. Tall cane and tangled vines in primary and secondary forest such as bamboo forest, moist deciduous forest, temperate forests, montane wet zone, and disturbed secondary forests, and perhaps agricultural areas at elevations of 150-1500 m. Food and Feeding. Indomalayan [Long-tailed Climbing Mice eat fruits, buds, and flowers. Breeding. Litters of the Indomalayan Long-tailed Climbing Mouse have 3-6 young. Activity patterns. Indomalayan Long-tailed Climbing Mice are arboreal and nocturnal, although one individual was caught duringthe day. Movements, Home range and Social organization. Indomalayan Long-tailed Climbing Mice build nests in tall bushes or cane to rear their young. Status and Conservation. Classified as Least Concern on The IUCN Red Last (as V. olacea). The Indomalayan Long-tailed Climbing Mouse occurs in several habitats and a wide distribution that includes national parks. Exploring Gender Perspectives on Parenthood Experiences among Fathers and Mothers in the ICT Field

<p>This paper investigates the challenges encountered by mothers and fathers in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) field regarding parenthood, with a focus on gender perspectives. A survey was conducted with practitioners in the ICT field to explore their perceptions of parenting challenges. Findings indicate that while male practitioners perceive the organizational culture as inclusive towards parents, most women do not share this perception. Mothers express insecurity about the impact of maternity leave on their careers and report receiving fewer job opportunities because they have children, whereas most fathers do not share these concerns. However, the majority of ICT practitioners who are parents report receiving support from their coworkers regarding their parental responsibilities. The analysis highlights common challenges faced by parents in the ICT industry, including balancing work and family responsibilities, workplace discrimination against women, and a lack of organizational support for parents. Nevertheless, there is a growing acknowledgment of the need for inclusive policies and mutual support to address these challenges.</p>

Specifically, the National Library of Medicine offers an online tool, Medical Text Indexer (MTI) (https://lhncbc.nlm.nih.gov/ii/tools/MTI.html), to provide indexing recommendations based on the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) vocabulary. Specifically, we uploaded to the first 2500 characters of the title and abstract of all papers in our sample in batch mode (Accessed in October 2021). A copy of the output of the MTI is provided as part of this archive "papers_coed_for_MTI_1_output.txt.zip", "papers_coed_for_MTI_2_output.txt.zip", "papers_coed_for_MTI_3_output.txt.zip"</p> <p>To replicate the results in "Undergraduate Gender Diversity and the Direction of Scientific Research", do <strong>not</strong> decompress the PaperAbstractInvertedIndex files and MTI files. Place the PaperAbstractInvertedIndex files in the "data/raw/MAG" directory and place the MTI files in the "data/raw/MTI" directory.
