Uncertainty and debate in statements describing Wikidata Works of art

This dataset comprises a selection of statements from all artworks in Wikidata.

In particular,

natures.json stores statements with a “Nature of statements” qualifier. Statements, independently of rank, can be decorated with an additional triple using predicate P5102. 54 terms among 283 available may mark the statement as uncertain or debated (e.g. debated, hypothesis, possibly). For example, the painting “Abstract Speed + Sound” (Q19882431) by Giacomo Balla is deemed to be possibly part of a triptych.

non-asserted.json contains those statements which are not asserted. Competing statements are represented via a ranking mechanism (e.g., Preferred, Normal and Deprecated). Individual statements are not actually asserted, but an extra triple is added those that are deemed true. For example, the painting “Madonna with the Blue Diadem” (Q738038) has been attributed to Raphael (non asserted statement, ranked as normal) and Gianfrancesco Penni (asserted statement, ranked as preferred and additionally asserted).

null-valued.json contains all statements with a null-valued objects. A statement can be associated with a blank node. This is meant to imply that the statement is associated with an unknown value, rather than a missing statement. For example, “Missal for the use of the ecclesiastics of Clermont' (Q113302686), an illuminated manuscript from the 14th century, has been recorded with both an unknown creator and author.

sourcing-circumstances.json stores statements with a “Sourcing circumstance” qualifier. As for Natures of statements only statements with an uncertain qualifier have been selected.

Poses of People in Art: A Data Set for Human Pose Estimation in Digital Art History

Throughout the history of art, the pose—as the holistic abstraction of the human body's expression—has proven to be a constant in numerous studies. However, due to the enormous amount of data that so far had to be processed by hand, its crucial role to the formulaic recapitulation of art-historical motifs since antiquity could only be highlighted selectively. This is true even for the now automated estimation of human poses, as domain-specific, sufficiently large data sets required for training computational models are either not publicly available or not indexed at a fine enough granularity. With the Poses of People in Art data set, we introduce the first openly licensed data set for estimating human poses in art and validating human pose estimators. It consists of 2,454 images from 22 art-historical depiction styles, including those that have increasingly turned away from lifelike representations of the body since the 19th century. A total of 10,749 human figures are precisely enclosed by rectangular bounding boxes, with a maximum of four per image labeled by up to 17 keypoints; among these are mainly joints such as elbows and knees. For machine learning purposes, the data set is divided into three subsets—training, validation, and testing—, that follow the established JSON-based Microsoft COCO format, respectively. Each image annotation, in addition to mandatory fields, provides metadata from the art-historical online encyclopedia WikiArt.

ARTS Absorption Lookup Table for a Wide Range of Atmospheric Conditions

General description

This dataset provides an absorption lookup table for the Atmospheric Radiative Transfer Simulator (ARTS). The data is stored in the ARTS XML data format.

The dataset consists of the following files:

abs_lookup.xml Meta data describing the lookup table in ASCII format

abs_lookup.xml.bin The grids and absorption cross section in binary format

The lookup table covers wavenumbers from 10 to 3,250 cm-1. It is valid for surface temperatures between 200 to 400 Kelvin and water vapor mixing ratios from 4e-5 up to 0.4.

The spectral coverage in combination with the wide range of validity make the lookup table suitable to calculate radiative fluxes even in extreme climates.

The dataset includes absorption cross-sections for the following species:

CH4

CO

CO2

H2O

N2

N2O

O2

O3

Usage with the radiative-convective equilibrium model konrad

The lookup table can be used by the ARTS radiation class provided by the radiative-convective equilibrium (RCE) model konrad. This allows the user to perform RCE simulations with line-by-line longwave radiation. The environment variable ``KONRAD_LOOKUP_TABLE`` is used to tell the model where the lookup table is located:

export KONRAD_LOOKUP_TABLE="path/to/abs_lookup.xml"

References
ARTS: radiativetransfer.org
konrad: github.com/atmtools/konrad

Digital Humanities Retrieval Evaluation Dataset for Art, Architecture and Life Sciences (DHREAAL)

This dataset, titled "Digital Humanities Retrieval Evaluation Dataset for Art, Architecture, and Life Sciences," emphasizes semantic retrieval, including ground truth data for both content-based and instance-based image retrieval. Utilized to compare various promising approaches and refine the evaluation method, this dataset serves as a precursor to a more extensive dataset. Additional details can be found in the dataset's related publication.

Currently, the dataset is still under development. In its next iteration, the dataset will include options for retrieving image syntax and temporal aspects, in addition to the semantics.
