Systematic Mapping Study Data on Case Survey Studies in Software Engineering Research
<p>This dataset includes the systematic mapping study intermediate results to a study on the use of case survey in software engineering research. It includes the results to queries on four different databases (ACM Digital Library, IEEE Xplore, Scopus and Web of Science), the final set of unique results (eliminating duplicates) and how they were classified regarding if it was focused on software engineering, if it is an empirical research paper, and if it employed case survey.</p>
Data from: Optimized modelling and application of exhaust gas recirculation performance evaluation of turbocharged diesel engine
Aimed at the problem of turbocharged diesel engine EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) performance evaluation and optimal EGR rate determination, especially in some cases with poor data because of the limit of conditions, an optimized multi-objective grey decision method based on grey theory and entropy weight is proposed. The internal combustion pressure ,fuel consumption rate, NOX ,CO and smoke degree were selected as the decision target, and the initial decision-making model was established based on traditional grey situation theory. According to the characteristics and optimization requirements of EGR, The optimal compromise between combustion and emission performance is proposed to transform into the decision-making target weight problem , then a subjective weight optimization method based on expert scoring and grey relational analysis is proposed. In addition, the entropy weight method was used to solve the subjective and objective weight vector and the optimized multi-objective grey situation decision making model was established, which can not weaken the human error of subjective empowerment, but also fully explore the intrinsic objective relationship of the evaluation index parameters. At last, an optimization simulation platform for EGR performance evaluation based MATLB/GUIDE is designed and established. The results show that the optimization simulation platform can effectively improve the efficiency of simulation calculation, which is more convenient for practical engineering applications; the optimized method can successfully solve the EGR performance evaluation and optimal EGR rate determination under different working conditions, the decision result is reasonable and consistent with the prevailing principle of the EGR determining, which provide a new research ideas for EGR performance optimization.
Data from: Interactive effects between physical forces and ecosystem engineers on seed burial: a case study using Spartina anglica
Seed burial (i.e. vertical seed dispersal) has become increasingly valued for its relevance for seed fate and plant recruitment. While ecosystem engineers have been generally considered as the most important drivers of seed burial, the role of physical forces, such as wind or water flow, has been largely overlooked. Using tidal habitats as a model system, and a combination of flume and mesocosm experiments, we investigated the effects of 1) currents, 2) benthic animals with different engineering activities and 3) their interplay on seed burial of a common salt marsh pioneer plant, Spartina anglica. Our results reveal that in such systems, water flow can be of equal or higher importance than ecosystem engineers for seed burial. For passive seed-burying engineers (PSE), coupling their actions with currents produced synergistic seed burial effects, whereas the interactive effects were only additive for active seed-burying engineers (ASE). This paper extends current understanding of seed burial and seed bank formation by revealing the need to incorporate physical forces into seed burial mechanisms. We provide the first empirical evidence that physical forces influence seed burial by synergistically interacting with ecosystem engineers, thus highlighting the role of biophysical interactions as important drivers for vertical seed movement.
Data from: Collective aggressiveness of an ecosystem engineer is associated with coral recovery
The ecological impacts of animal groups may be different and predictable depending on their collective behavior. Farmerfish (Stegastes nigricans) live in social groups and collectively defend gardens of palatable algae. These gardens also serve as settlement and nursery habitats for corals because farmerfish mob corallivores that attempt to forage on corals within their gardens. We detected large among-colony differences in farmerfish collective aggression towards intruder fish that persist across years. We further found that the territories of aggressive groups and territories containing larger farmerfish provided greater protection to corals than non-aggressive groups: territories of aggressive groups naturally harbored more branching corals than non-aggressive groups, and experimentally outplanted branching corals experienced 80% less skeletal loss and grew larger over 25 weeks in aggressive territories and in territories guarded by larger fish. These findings hint that factors that increase farmerfish group aggressiveness (e.g., higher temperatures) could enhance the protective value of their territories for the replenishment of coral populations.
Data from: Engineering repressors with coevolutionary cues facilitates toggle switches with a master reset
Engineering allosteric transcriptional repressors containing an environmental sensing module (ESM) and a DNA recognition module (DRM) has the potential to unlock a combinatorial set of rationally designed biological responses. We demonstrated that constructing hybrid repressors by fusing distinct ESMs and DRMs provides a means to flexibly rewire genetic networks for complex signal processing. We have used coevolutionary traits among LacI homologs to develop a model for predicting compatibility between ESMs and DRMs. Our predictions accurately agree with the performance of 40 engineered repressors. We have harnessed this framework to develop a system of multiple toggle switches with a master OFF signal that produces a unique behavior: each engineered biological activity is switched to a stable ON state by different chemicals and returned to OFF states in response to a common signal. One promising application of this design is to develop living diagnostics for monitoring multiple parameters in complex physiological environments and it represents one of many circuit topologies that can be explored with modular repressors designed with coevolutionary information.
Data from: Experimental study on diesel engine EGR performance and Optimum EGR Rate Determination Method
In order to study deeply the Exhaust gas recirculation(EGR)performance of marine diesel engines,a venturi high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation device was established to overcome the exhaust gas reflow problem in a certain type turbocharged diesel engine. With the device, the EGR performance test is accomplished and an optimal EGR decision-making optimization method based on grey correlation coefficient modified is proposed. The results show that the venturi tube EGR can basically meet the injection requirements of high-pressure exhaust gas and makes good results to the diesel engine . Through the venturi tube EGR, the NOX emissions reduces significantly with the maximum drop of 30.6%. The explosive pressure in cylinder reduces with the EGR rate increases, and the cylinder pressure curve shows a single peak at low-speed conditions and double peaks at high-speed condition. However, the fuel consumption rate, NO, and smoke have been negatively affected. Due to small samples, the traditional evaluation method is difficult to determine the optimal EGR rate reasonably, while the proposed method can effectively solve this problem. It can weaken the shortcomings of subjective judgment and greatly improve the rationality of decision-making results.
Data from: Porous poly-l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone scaffold: a novel biomaterial for vaginal tissue engineering
The surgical reconstruction of functional neovagina is challenging and susceptible to complications. Therefore, developing tissue engineering based treatment methods for vaginal defects is important. Our aim was to develop and test a novel supercritical carbon dioxide foamed poly-l-lactide-co-ε-caprolactone (scPLCL) scaffold for vaginal reconstruction. The scaffolds were manufactured and characterized for porosity (65±4%), pore size (350±150µm) and elastic modulus (2.8±0.4MPa). Vaginal epithelial (EC) and stromal cells (SC) were isolated, expanded, and characterized with flow cytometry. Finally, cells were cultured with scPLCL scaffolds in separate and/or co-cultures. Their attachment, viability, proliferation and phenotype were analyzed. Both cell types strongly expressed cell surface markers CD44, CD73, and CD166. Strong expression of CD326 was detected with ECs and CD90 and CD105 with SCs. Both ECs and SCs attached and maintained viability on scPLCL. Further, scPLCL supported the proliferation of especially ECs, which also maintained epithelial phenotype (cytokeratin expression) during 14d assessment period. Interestingly, ECs expressed uroplakin (UP) Ia, UPIb, and UPIII markers, further, UPIa and UPIII expression was significantly higher on ECs cultured on scPLCL than on cell culture plastic. In conclusion, the scPLCL is potential scaffold for vaginal tissue engineering and the results of this study further illustrates the excellent biocompatibility of PLCL.

The interfacial compatibility between compact TiO2 and perovskite layers is critical for the performance of planar heterojunction perovskite solar cells (PSCs). A compact TiO2 film employed as an electron-transport layer (ETL) was modified using 3-aminopropyl trimethoxy silane (APMS) hydrolysate. The power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs composed of an APMS-hydrolysate-modified TiO2 layer increased from 13.45 to 15.79%, which was associated with a significant enhancement in the fill factor (FF) from 62.23 to 68.04%. The results indicate that APMS hydrolysate can enhance the wettability of γ-butyrolactone (GBL) on the TiO2 surface, form a perfect CH3NH3PbI3 film, and increase the recombination resistance at the interface. This work demonstrates a simple but efficient method to improve the TiO2/perovskite interface that can be greatly beneficial for developing high-performance PSCs.
Data from: Genome engineering allows selective conversions of terephthalaldehyde to multiple valorized products in bacterial cells
<p>Deconstruction of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic waste generates opportunities for valorization to alternative products. We recently designed an enzymatic cascade that could produce terephthalaldehyde (TPAL) from terephthalic acid. Here, we showed that the addition of TPAL to growing cultures of<em> Escherichia coli</em> wild-type strain MG1655 and an engineered strain for reduced aromatic aldehyde rection (RARE) strain resulted in substantial reduction. We then investigated if we could mitigate this reduction using multiplex automatable genome engineering (MAGE) to create an <em>E. coli </em>strain with 10 additional knockouts in RARE. Encouragingly, we found this newly engineered strain enabled a 2.5-fold higher retention of TPAL over RARE after 24h. We applied this new strain for the production of <em>para</em>-xylylenediamine (pXYL) and observed a 6.8-fold increase in pXYL titer compared to RARE. Overall, our study demonstrates the potential of TPAL as a versatile intermediate in microbial biosynthesis of chemicals that derived from waste PET.</p>
