Irish Drought Impacts Database v.1.0 (IDID)

The Irish Drought Impacts Database (IDID) presents information from drought related newspaper articles for the island of Ireland, covering the period 1733 – 2019, collected through systematic searching of the Irish Newspaper Archive. These articles were identified, assessed and categorized using a modified version of the classification scheme employed by the European Drought Impact Inventory (EDII) (Stahl et al. 2012). The IDID provides information on the documented temporal and geographical extent of drought events, their socio-economic and political contexts, their consequences and mitigation strategies employed. Temporal information includes the newspaper publication date, timing and duration of drought periods and timing of impacts. Spatial details are provided on three different levels; in addition to Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics Level 2 (Nuts2) regions, county location and, if available, a more localized place name (e.g., town or city name) is also recorded. The database allows the analysis of long-term patterns in drought incidence and impacts as well as offering insights into the impacts of individual drought events over nearly three centuries of Ireland’s history. Spatially specific data provide an opportunity for further exploration of the differential vulnerability of various geographical locations, which may vary depending on biophysical conditions, economic, political and societal context. Textual excerpts offer further insight into the human experience and perception of drought and its impacts. The IDID therefore enables a better understanding of drought, vulnerability, and offers a new open access tool for multi-disciplinary investigation of drought on the island of Ireland.

Polidoc.net CODEBOOK: National and Regional Manifestos and other Political Documents Collected for the Research Projects "Representation in Europe: Congruence between Preferences of Elites and Voters" (REPCONG) and "The Impact of EU Cohesion Policy on European Identification" (COHESIFY)

The Political Documents Archive http://www.polidoc.net/ contains election manifestos, coalition agreements, government declarations and various other documents of political actors from developed democracies. Currently, the archive builds on a stock of more than 3000 political documents from 20 European countries. The aim of the repository is to provide political texts in order to facilitate scholarly research in different areas of comparative politics such as party competition, coalition politics, legislative decision-making or electoral behavior.

National electoral manifestos have been collected in the course of the REPCONG project ("Representation in Europe: Policy Congruence between Citizens and Elites"), and the archive includes party manifestos for regional elections in several European democracies. Because the process of European integration resulted in a strengthening of regions in EU member states and in countries that want to join the European Union, the relevance of the regional level for political decision-making has increased during the last decades. Therefore, also the policy profiles of regional parties are required to get a full picture of democratic responsiveness in European states across all levels of the political system. The collection of regional manifestos was supported by the COHESIFY project (www.cohesify.eu), funded under the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The aim of COHESIFY is to study whether the European Structural and Investment Funds affect people’s support for and identification with the European project.

The archive is freely accessible (after a simple registration) and meant to foster rigorous research in these areas by enabling scholars to produce valid and reliable findings from empirical studies of textual data rather than unnecessarily struggling to obtain and process texts.

Assessing tropospheric turbulence impact on VGOS telescope placement in the Indian subcontinent for the estimation of Earth Orientation Parameters

The dataset accompanying this study is composed of three distinct files, each integral to the research conducted. The file, named 'Simulated Data', includes the results derived from the simulations performed within this investigation. This file serves as a repository of the computed outcomes. The file, named 'Data and Code', includes the MATLAB scripts utilized to compute the Cn value from the Zenith Wet Delay (ZWD). Additionally, this file encompasses the relevant datasets for both wind speed and ZWD at various station locations. The third file contains the geographical coordinates of the Indian stations that were used in the study. Together, these files constitute a complete dataset that supports the study’s objectives and verification of the findings.

Dataset: Sex differences in the impact of social relationships on individual vocal signatures in grey mouse lemurs

Dataset used in the statistical analysis of the publication "Sex differences in the impact of social relationships on individual vocal signatures in grey mouse lemurs (Microcebus murinus)"

Abstract

Vocalizations coordinate social interactions between conspecifics by conveying information concerning the individual or group identity of the sender. Social accommodation is a form of vocal learning where social affinity is signalled by converging or diverging vocalizations to those of conspecifics. To investigate whether social accommodation is linked to the social lifestyle of the sender, we investigated sex-specific differences in social accommodation in a dispersed living primate, the grey mouse lemur, where females form stable sleeping groups whereas males live solitarily. We used 482 trill calls of 36 individuals from our captive breeding colony to compare acoustic dissimilarity between individuals with genetic relatedness, social contact time and body weight. Our results showed that female trills become more similar the more time females spend with each other independent of genetic relationship, suggesting vocal convergence. In contrast, male trills were affected more by genetic than social factors. However, focussing only on socialized males, male trills diverged from each other the more time males were cage partners. Thus, grey mouse lemurs show the capacity for social accommodation, with females converging their trills to signal social closeness to sleeping group partners, whereas males do not adapt or diverge their trills to signal individual distinctiveness.

For details concerning the recording of the trills confer to the publication at doi: 10.1098/rstb.2023.0193
