<p>In un libro recente &ndash; La valutazione possibile &ndash; Teoria e pratica nel mondo della ricerca, Il Mulino, 2015 &ndash; Andrea Bonaccorsi sostiene, con toni riflessivi e pacati, una tesi che si pu&ograve; condensare nella seguente proposizione: la valutazione &egrave; espressione delle norme mertoniane. &ldquo;Per quanto mi riguarda &ndash; scrive Bonaccorsi (p.19) -, non ho difficolt&agrave; a partire dal principale modello normativo della scienza moderna dovuto a Robert K. Merton. Nella formulazione pi&ugrave; nota, gli scienziati sono universalisti, comunitari, disinteressati e scettici&rdquo;. Tuttavia, sebbene Bonaccorsi si impegni in una faticosa (e pur interessante) analisi interdisciplinare nel tentativo di elaborare originali argomenti a favore della propria tesi, offre una lettura distorta e parziale dell&rsquo;opera mertoniana, tradendone clamorosamente il significato pi&ugrave; profondo. L&rsquo;opera, inoltre, trascura la dimensione giuridica del rapporto tra norme formali poste dallo stato nel processo valutativo e le norme informali della scienza. L&rsquo;elaborazione di Bonaccorsi &egrave; certamente uno dei pochi tentativi della letteratura italiana di porre un articolato fondamento teorico alla valutazione, come ricorda lo stesso autore senza per&ograve; interrogarsi a fondo sulla ragione di questa mancanza: essa, per&ograve;, lascia occultati i reali problemi con i quali si confronta drammaticamente la ricerca italiana: il progressivo disinvestimento statale nella scienza, la produzione di un quadro normativo ipertrofico, contraddittorio e mutevole, la compressione dell&rsquo;autonomia scientifico-accademica, la burocratizzazione della professione del docente e dello scienziato, e in definitiva l&rsquo;annientamento dell&rsquo;etica e delle norme mertoniane della scienza.</p>

Aquarius Official Release Level 3 Sea Surface Density Standard Mapped Image Descending Mission Cumulative Data V5.0

Aquarius Level 3 sea surface density standard mapped image data contains gridded 1 degree spatial resolution density data averaged over daily, 7 day, monthly, and seasonal time scales. This particular data set is the mission series mean or cumulative, Descending seasurface density product for version 5.0 of the Aquarius data set. Only retrieved values for Descending passes have been used to create this product. Surface density estimates are based on TEOS-10 and derived using retrieved salinity from Aquarius and collocated ancillary SST (Reynolds OI 0.25 degree product). The Aquarius instrument is onboard the AQUARIUS/SAC-D satellite, a collaborative effort between NASA and the Argentinian Space Agency Comision Nacional de Actividades Espaciales (CONAE). The instrument consists of three radiometers in push broom alignment at incidence angles of 29, 38, and 46 degrees incidence angles relative to the shadow side of the orbit. Footprints for the beams are: 76 km (along-track) x 94 km (cross-track), 84 km x 120 km and 96km x 156 km, yielding a total cross-track swath of 370 km. The radiometers measure brightness temperature at 1.413 GHz in their respective horizontal and vertical polarizations (TH and TV). A scatterometer operating at 1.26 GHz measures ocean backscatter in each footprint that is used for surface roughness corrections in the estimation of salinity. The scatterometer has an approximate 390km swath.

Transcriptomic analysis of femoral skin from mice flown on the MHU-2 mission

The JAXA MHU-2 mission had two objectives: 1) To increase understanding of effects of spaceflight on the gut environment (microbiota and metabolites) and immune system using multi-omics based analysis; 2) To evaluate whether fructo-oligosaccharides added to the diet as prebiotics improve the gut environment and immune function during spaceflight. Twelve 16-18 week old male C57BL/6J mice were singly housed in the JAXA Habitat Cage Units (HCUs) on the ISS for 30 days. Six flight mice were housed in microgravity while six were exposed to simulated 1g by centrifugation. These two flight groups were further divided in half so that three mice in each group received standard JAXA chow while the other three were fed chow supplemented with fructooligosaccharides (FOS). Mice were returned live and euthanized and dissected <1 day after splashdown. Ground controls (n=6) were asynchronous and housed in HCUs. Vivarium controls (n=6) were asynchronous and housed in standard habitats. Three ground control and three vivarium animals received standard chow while the other three each ground control and vivarium animals received FOS-supplemented chow. Ground and vivarium samples were dissected by a separate dissection team than flight samples. Femoral skin was dissected 30 minutes after euthanasia and snap frozen in liquid nitrogen. Integrated Multi-Mission Ocean Altimeter Data for Climate Research Version 5.2

The Integrated Multi-Mission Ocean Altimeter Sea Surface Height (SSH) Version 5.2 dataset provides level 2 along track sea surface height anomalies (SSHA) for 10-day cycles from the TOPEX/Poseidon, Jason-1, OSTM/Jason-2, Jason-3, and Sentinel-6A missions geo-referenced to a mean reference orbit. It is produced by NASA Sea Surface Height (NASA-SSH) project investigators at Goddard Space Flight Center and Jet Propulsion Laboratory with support from NASA’s Physical Oceanography program, and was developed originally as an Earth System Data Record (ESDR) under the Making Earth System Data Records for Use in Research Environments (MEaSUREs) program, which supported forward processing and incremental refinements through version 5.1 (released in April 2022).<br>Geophysical Data Records (GDRs) from each altimetry mission were interpolated to a common reference orbit with biases and cross-calibrations applied so that the derived SSHA are consistent between satellites to form a single homogeneous climate data record. The entire multi-mission data record covers the period from September 1992 to present; it is extended to include new observations approximately once each quarter. The previous release (version 5.1) integrated Jason-3 data and applied revised internal tides and pole tide across missions (GDR_F standard). The current release (version 5.2) includes the following revisions: a) GSFC std2006_cs21 orbit for all missions, b) GOT5.1 ocean tide model, c) TOPEX/Poseidon GDR_F data, d) Sentinel-6 LR version F08 data, e) Jason-3 re-calibrated radiometer wet troposphere correction. Multi-Mission Optimally Interpolated Sea Surface Salinity Global Monthly Dataset V1

This is a level 4 product on a 0.25-degree spatial and monthly temporal grid. The product is the monthly mean of the level 4 OISSS dataset using three satellite missions: the Aquarius/SAC-D, Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) and Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) using Optimal Interpolation (OI) with a 7-day decorrelation time scale. This dataset is produced by the International Pacific Research Center (IPRC) of the University of Hawaii at Manoa in collaboration with the Remote Sensing Systems (RSS), Santa Rosa, California. Spatially resolved transcriptional analysis of hearts from mice flown on the RR-3 mission

The Rodent Research-3 (RR-3) mission was sponsored by the pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly and Co. and the Center for the Advancement of Science in Space to study the effectiveness of a potential countermeasure for the loss of muscle and bone mass that occurs during spaceflight. Twenty BALB/c 18-weeks old female mice (ten controls and ten treated) were flown to the ISS and housed in the Rodent Habitat for 39-42 days. Twenty mice of similar age sex and strain were used for ground controls housed in identical hardware and matching ISS environmental conditions. Basal controls were housed in standard vivarium cages. Spaceflight ground controls and basal groups had blood collected then were euthanized had one hind limb removed and finally whole carcasses were stored at -80 C until dissection. All mice in this data set received only the control/sham injection. Spatially resolved transcriptional profiles were generated from hearts from three flight and three ground control animals as follows. Hearts were cryosectioned longitudinally onto an array of capture probes that bind RNA fixed stained and visualized. Heart sections were then permeabilized to release RNA onto the capture probes and cDNA synthesized on the chip so that its spatial arrangement is encoded within a set of molecular barcodes. cDNA was then released and sequenced. Four to five levels of each heart was analyzed in this manner to allow a 3D reconstruction of the transcriptome.
