This Land is Your Land, This Could Be Marsh Land: Property Parcel Characteristics of Marsh Migration Corridors in Rhode Island, USA

These data on Rhode Island property parcels and salt marsh migration projections support a project analyzing their overlap. Salt marshes, critical habitats offering many ecosystem services, are threatened by development, sea level rise (SLR) and other anthropogenic stressors that are projected to worsen. As seas rise, some salt marshes can migrate inland if there is adjacent, permeable, undeveloped land available. Facilitating marsh migration is necessary for coastal resilience efforts, but extensive coastal development can make finding suitable migration corridors challenging. This work seeks to characterize the changes in land use, ownership, and economic value at the property parcel level within projected 2050 marsh extent for the state of Rhode Island, USA. We find that most parcels currently containing salt marsh are publicly owned, whereas most adjacent parcels projected to contain new salt marsh in 2050 are privately owned. Additionally, parcels containing new marsh in 2050 have 47% higher per-hectare assessed values than parcels containing current marsh. We describe the locations and characteristics of parcels within migration corridors with the lowest per-hectare values that may be the most cost-effective for marsh conservation practitioners to protect. This study highlights the expanding land use types and landowner sets that will be involved in marsh conservation decisions, and the economic value of potential migration corridors where costly tradeoffs may be necessary to promote coastal resilience.

Brain cortical volume and area from Freesurfer's parcellation in a sample of healthy volunteers from South America

This dataset aims to deepen the analysis of cortical gyral and sulcal asymmetry of the entire cerebral cortex of healthy adult individuals by quantifying the gray matter content of the right and left hemispheres in a reference sample from South America. The subjects were sampled from populations scarcely represented in MRI research, which tends to be biased towards groups of European ancestry from Europe and North America. In contrast, the population under study is an admixture of Native American, European, and African components that contributed to a variable extent to their gene pool. Consequently, this study will add to expanding the diversity in brain morphometric data and the construction of more population-representative references.

Housing and parcel transactions for the Baltimore metropolitan region (1996-2014)
Housing and parcel transactions for the Baltimore metropolitan region (1996-2014). Participants Morgan Grove, US Forest Service Elena Irwin, The Ohio State University Douglas Wrenn, Penn State University H. Allen Klaiber, The Ohio State University Nicholas Irwin, The Ohio State University (among others) Short abstract: This data contains the housing and land transactions for parcels located in select counties in the Baltimore metropolitan region from 1996-2014. The transactions data includes date of sale, amount of sale, type of sale and the characteristics of the house or parcel (e.g. number of bathrooms, interior square footage, acreage). The data also includes information on the spatial location of the centroid of each parcel.
