A Survey of State Hazard Mitigation Officers About Integrating Climate Change into Hazard Mitigation Planning

<p>56 U.S. state&nbsp;hazard mitigation officers (SHMOs)&nbsp;were invited by email to participate in a brief, 25 question online survey administered through SurveyMonkey (SurveyMonkey Inc., San Mateo, CA, USA:&nbsp;<a href="http://www.surveymonkey.com/">www.surveymonkey.com</a>) in March &amp; April 2018.&nbsp;Thirty-five (62.5%) SHMOs responded to the survey. The survey sought to assess&nbsp;climate change integration into state hazard mitigation plans, as well as barriers and facilitators to such integration.</p>

Increasing production efficiency and coping with climate change, while ensuring sustainability and resilience

<p>The 3rd group of experiments (GE3) was designed to assess the effect of legume crops cultivated during autumn (from August to January) as cash crops or as green manure on the next tomato crop cultivated during spring (from February to July). Thus, GE3 included two experimental crops, one with legumes starting in August 2018 and terminated in January 2019 (GE3E1) and one with tomato, which started in February 2019 and terminated in July 2019 (GE3E2). In the experiment with legumes tested as preceding crops to tomato (GE3E1), four different treatments were established. In particular, treatment 1 (T1) was a cowpea crop cultivated as a cash crop aiming to produce cowpea pods during autumn 2018. Similarly, &nbsp;treatment 2 (T2) was a common bean crop cultivated as a cash crop aiming to produce commercially marketable common bean pods during autumn 2018. Treatment 3 (T3) was a faba bean crop aiming to be incorporated to the soil at anthesis as green manure. Finally, Treatment 4 (T4) was a faba bean crop aiming to be incorporated to the soil at anthesis as green manure</p>

South-East Asian Region (SEAR): Sea Basin Landscape Mapping for Paleoclimatology & Recent Climate Change Impacts

The objective of this work includes the coastal scenario, risks and development of coastal paleoclimatology through landscape mapping; by highlighting the devastating climate change impacts that might result in tsunami in South-East Asian sea basin with short or no-awareness period; despite the facts that the Southeast Asia region is generally poor being encompassed by twelve countries along with the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Special payable concern to the Bay of Bengal has been paid that can dictate region’s climate to certain extent. The ecosystems’ impact due to climate change and global warming -can bring direct variables and affects in –salinity, temperature, river flow, runoff, soil characteristics, erosion, nutrition level and water quality. The landscape mapping can address the system infrastructure requirements to the SEAR’s sea basin attainable by the annual monsoons, the Southwest and the Northeast Monsoons. How recent meteorological and geodynamic-genetic events can result in adverse economical damages and significant losses of lives are also drawn. This work monitors on Sea-level rise gets projected under global warming. The most brainstorming findings from climate change issues are how the high latitudes for SEAR Sea Basins’ are likely to experience greater warming than the global mean and warming,- And how the hydrological cycle gets found responsible for bringing more floods and more droughts in- causing huge devastating changes for environmental factors in coastal zones

Data from: Climate change promotes allopatric divergence and ecological adaptation in a tropical montane bird. SNP data used to analyse the demographic history of Amblyornis papuensis.

<p>Environmental heterogeneity and Pleistocene glaciations have largely contributed to speciation and adaptation processes that have promoted genetic diversity of montane birds in temperate regions, but how these processes have influenced montane species in tropical regions is less known. We study these processes using a chromosome-level genome and comparative population genomics in Archbold's bowerbird (<i>Amblyornis papuensis</i>), a rare and poorly known montane bird in New Guinea. The analyses showed a deep divergence between the populations isolated in the eastern and western parts of the New Guinea Highlands, respectively. Using demographic model inference, we estimated that the two populations were part of the same population until ca. 140,000 years ago. They then diverged as the warmer climate in the Eemian interglacial forced them to retreat to higher elevations, which also led to decreasing population sizes. Subsequently, the two isolated populations evolved considerable phenotypic differences, particularly in body size, and in accordance with this, we observed strong divergent selection in genes related to body development. The phenotypic and genomic differences are likely a response to heterogenic environmental conditions in their respective habitats.</p>

Arctic Sea Ice Seasonal Change and Melt/Freeze Climate Indicators from Satellite Data, Version 1

The product contains melt-season indicators that can be used to delineate various stages in the summer melt and freeze-up period of sea ice. The data were primarily derived using Sea Ice Concentration (SIC) observations from the NOAA/NSIDC Climate Data Record of Passive Microwave Sea Ice Concentration and brightness temperature observations from the DMSP SSM/I-SSMIS Daily Polar Gridded Brightness Temperatures; both input data sets are archived at NSIDC. The main parameters for this data set include the dates of melt onset, early melt onset, and continuous melt onset; dates of early and continuous freeze onset; day of opening (last day SIC is above 80%); day of retreat (last day SIC drops below 15%); day of advance (first day SIC increases above 15%); day of closing (first day SIC increases above 80%); total outer ice-free period; total inner ice-free period; seasonal loss-of-ice period; seasonal gain-of-ice period; and the seasonal ice zone. These data are available for 1979 through 2017. They are gridded on the NSIDC northern hemisphere polar stereographic grid at 25 km.
