Figure 12 in The bibliography of and taxa proposed by Charles D. Michener
Figure 12. An undated photograph of Mich (standing) and an unidentified graduate student looking over a collection of insects in Snow Hall (presumably ca. 1954) (photograph courtesy of the University Archives, Kenneth Spencer Research Library, University of Kansas).

Figure 28 in The bibliography of and taxa proposed by Charles D. Michener
Figure 28. Cover of the first edition of Michener's acclaimed, The Bees of the World (2000, Johns Hopkins University Press). Representing the culmination of his lifelong efforts toward refining bee classification, the appearance of this unequaled, encyclopedic tome was as transformational to melittology as was Mich's 1944 monograph, if not more so given its greater scope.
Figure 30 in The bibliography of and taxa proposed by Charles D. Michener
Figure 30. Twice the blessings. The cover of the second edition of Michener's, The Bees of the World (2007, Johns Hopkins University Press). This monumental edition, growing over the first by 40 densely packed pages, achieved the seemingly impossible when it made an already excellent work better. Eight further color plates were added, enhancing the text, and those genera and subgenera proposed since the first edition received Mich's uniquely informed critique alongside the incorporation of abundant new biological information.
Figure 29. Michael S in The bibliography of and taxa proposed by Charles D. Michener
Figure 29. Michael S. Engel and Michener in the Snow Entomological Museum, June 2002 (photograph by Alexandr P. Rasnitsyn).
