Historic Chamber Pot

This historic eramic (ironstone) chamber pot was found during CAP's 2005 excavations of Saints' Rest, the first dormitory at Michigan State University which burned down in the winter of 1876. The term "chamber" is an old word for "bedroom". Chamber pots date back to ancient Greece during the 6th century BC. They were still common in the United States through the late 19th century in smaller buildings after the introduction of flushing toilets and remained in use into the early-mid 20th century. This chamber pot gives us a window into the conditions of early dorm living in MSU's first student housing. This model was created by Jack A. Biggs using Agisoft Metashape A 3D model was previously built of the lid that belonged to this chamber pot: (https://sketchfab.com/models/c192ccf8865b45948c7cb8c70901a78a) Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Historic Chamber Pot Lid

This artifact model is of a chamber pot lid that was found during excavations on MSU's campus in 2005 as part of the university's sesquicentennial celebration. Dated to before 1876, the chamber pot lid is made of ceramic, decorated with an ambossment of some sort of plant with berries or buds. Indoor plumbing was not commonly available in small-scale buildings until the late 19th century and were still used into the 20th century. This photogrammetry model was created using Agisoft PhotoScan by Jack A. Biggs Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Pot

Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Cosmetic Pot

Culture: [Tudor](http://n2t.net/ark:/99152/p0kh9ds7jvs). Material: Earthenware. Accession No: CG 027. Current Location: [The Hunt Museum](https://www.huntmuseum.com/), [Limerick](https://www.geonames.org/7778675/limerick-city.html). A small earthenware pot, its upper section partially covered in mottled green glaze. The pot has a deep small foot and wide irregular spherical body. The neck narrows and the lip is wide. This is possibly Tudor Green Ware with a label noting Vandon Street, London. It is unclear if this refers to a findspot. The pot is English made but is a copy of typical French ware. The small jar may have contained cosmetics or ointments. [More](https://www.huntmuseum.com/explore/item/fe3a1591-2ac7-39f4-9bf8-762b9de28410/?s%3DCG+027&pos=1). Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
