<p>This dataset consists of 9,404 radiation pulse signals of neutrons and gamma-rays, including approximately 2,000 neutron events and over 7,000 gamma ray events. Each pulse signal has a length of about 280 ns, and the dataset is saved in txt format, which can be read using the loadtxt function supported by the NumPy library.</p>

Coursing the mottled mosaic: generalist predators track pulses in availability of neonatal ungulates
<p>The density and distribution of resources shape animal movement and behavior and have direct implications for population dynamics. Resource availability often is "pulsed" in space and time, and individuals should cue in on resource pulses when the energetic gain of doing so exceeds that of stable resources. Birth pulses of prey represent a profitable but ephemeral resource and should thereby result in shifting functional responses by predators. We evaluated movements and resource selection of coyotes (<em>Canis</em> <em>latrans</em>) across a gradient of reproductive stages ranging from late gestation to peak lactation of female mule deer (<em>Odocoileus</em> <em>hemionus</em>) in southwest Wyoming, USA to test whether coyotes exhibited shifts in selection and movement behavior relative to the availability and vulnerability of neonatal mule deer. We expected coyotes to track pulses in availability of neonatal mule deer, and such behavior would be represented by shifts in resource selection and search behavior of coyotes that would be strongest during peak parturition of mule deer. Coyotes selected areas of high relative probability of use by female mule deer and did so most strongly during peak parturition. Further, searching behavior of coyotes intensified during pulses of availability of deer neonates. Our findings support the notion that coyotes exploit pulses of neonatal deer, presumably as an attempt to capitalize on a vulnerable, energy-rich resource. Our work quantifies the behavioral mechanisms by which coyotes consume ungulate neonates and provides one of the first examples of a mammalian predator-prey system centered on a pulsed resource. </p>

Supplementary material for: Intermittent migration can induce pulses of speciation in a two-island system
<p>Geographic barriers can come and go depending on natural conditions. These fluctuations cause population cycles of expansion and contraction, introducing intermittent migrations that may not hinder speciation but rather promote diversification. Here, we study a neutral two-island speciation model with intermittent migration driven by sea-level fluctuations. Seabed depth modulates isolation and connection periods between the islands, with migration occurring during connection periods with a certain probability. Mating is restricted to genetically compatible individuals on the same island, and offspring inherit genomes from both parents through recombination. We observe speciation pulses that would not occur under strict isolation or continuous migration, with infrequent, instantaneous increases in species richness happening at different times depending on the combination of geographic settings and migration probability. The resulting dynamic patterns of richness exhibit contrasting behavior between connected and isolated scenarios, often including species that do not persist. Prolonged isolation can reduce richness to one species per island, resembling patterns commonly associated with archipelagos under sea-level fluctuations. Together with other studies, our results in out-of-equilibrium populations support the relevance of investigating the impact of variable migration on diversification, particularly in regions of high diversity.</p>

The approach for the test series was to vary the parameters pulse-width and the shear-wave-sensor-type. This results in a two-dimensional test parameter grid (pulse-width versus shear-wave-sensor-type). Tests were performed for each grid point in order to receive information needed to optimize the pulse width, but also a possible dependency between material and sensor behaviour. The material tested was the air of the laboratory environment. The test method used was the ultrasonic pulse transmission method with combined compression- and shear wave measurements. All test data and metadata are summarized into datasets using GNU Octave's open binary file format.</p>

The material tested was an aluminium cylinder with a diameter of 50 millimetres and a height of 50 millimetres. The test method used was the ultrasonic pulse transmission method with combined compression- and shear wave measurements. All test data and metadata are summarized into datasets using GNU Octave's open binary file format.</p>

Data from: Optimal control pulses for the 1.2 GHz (28.2 T) NMR spectrometers
<p>The ability to measure NMR spectra with a large sample volume is crucial for concentration limited biological samples in order to attain adequate signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. The possibility to measure with a 5 mm cryoprobe is currently absent at the 1.2 GHz NMR instruments due to the exceedingly high radio frequency power demands, which is four times compared to a 600 MHz instruments. Here, we overcome the high power demands by designing optimal control (OC) pulses with up to 20 times lower power requirements than currently necessary at a 1.2 GHz spectrometer. We show that multidimensional biomolecular <span>NMR experiments constructed using these OC pulses can bestow improvement in the S/N ratio of up to 26%. With the expected power limitations of a 5 mm cryoprobe, we observe an enhancement in the S/N ratio of more than 240% using our OC sequences. This motivates the development of a cryoprobe with a larger volume than the current 3 mm cryoprobes. </span></p>
