Scottish Boatbuilding School: Workshop

The Scottish Boatbuilding School at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine was established in 2014 to provide education and qualification in both traditional and modern boat building, as well as vessel conservation and restoration. Addressing the growing skills shortage in the boatbuilding the Scottish Boat Building School was involved in the development of the new Modern Apprenticeship Scheme. While keeping the boatbuilding alive, the scheme aims to train up young people from the local community and provide them with skills which can then be transferred into a variety of industries: from joinery to construction. This 3D model, created as a part of 'Scanning the Horizon' project, provides a unique glimpse into the school's boatbuilding workshop, which is not accessible for the public. Listen to Martin, the Boatbuilding School Manager as he explains the mission of the School and the role of the apprenticeships. UF Bulow Field School TU60 at Medium Processing

# Test Unit Field Test We recently had the chance to stop out at the [University of Florida Bulow Archaeology Field School](http://users.clas.ufl.edu/davidson/kingsley.htm) and try our hand at 3D modeling test units. Our goal is to take you through the whole dig process, from start to finish! For now, we're still experimenting. This test unit (TU) is located near a slave cabin at the [Bulow Plantation Ruins Historic State Park](https://www.floridastateparks.org/park/bulow-plantation). Dr. James Davidson, UF, is leading an [archaeological field school](http://users.clas.ufl.edu/davidson/kingsley.htm) this summer at the site. Dr. Davidson's has previously investigated the Knigsley Plantation slave cabin sites. You can learn more about him and his research[ HERE](http://users.clas.ufl.edu/davidson/). Archaeological Field School: Foundation Rubble

The Archaeological Field School conducted by the National Park Service uncovered the remnants of the foundation of a WWI era Spruce Mill. The site was later graded to create additional landings for the Pearson Airfield, one of the two oldest continuously operating airfields in the US. The use of scanning is optimal to digitally capture daily excavations as the site changes day to day. The 3D model relates detailed information that can not be acquired with traditional photos and sketches. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Perceived creativity in insight problems by secondary school students: Effects of problem and solver's variables

<p><span>An exploratory empirical study was conducted to collect and analyse the perception of secondary education students regarding the creativity involved in insight problems. A total of 127 Spanish students from 8th grade (2nd ESO) and 11th grade (1st Bachillerato) participated in the study and assessed the creativity involved in the problems before and after attempting to solve them. These evaluations were related to the course, gender, surface, and structural aspects of the problems. Everyday life and science contexts were considered as problem surfaces or contexts. The structural aspects of the problems were associated with the specific strategy required to solve them, such as &lsquo;chunk decomposition&rsquo; and &lsquo;constrain relaxation,&rsquo; the assistance provided by the problem statement to initiate the resolution process, and the possibility of metacognitive control over the quality of the solution developed. Individual booklets were prepared with counterbalanced statements to assess perceived creativity and to solve the problems. The results show that, contrary to expectations, students are capable of mentally representing the structural aspects of the problems during reading and before solving them. The problem surface did not significantly affect the initial perception of creativity. After solving the problems, the average changes in perceived creativity were of small magnitude. The results encourage teachers to use insight problems as promoters of creativity in secondary school classrooms.</span></p>

A Dataset of Dropout Rates and Other School-Level Variables in Louisiana Public High Schools

<p>This massive dataset of school variables covering a duration of five academic years (2014-15 to 2018-19) was originally compiled with the intention of identifying the factors that correlate with high school dropout in Louisiana public high schools, specifically. However, it can be useful to any researchers interested in analyzing school-level data concerning a wide range of variables beyond merely dropout rates. This dataset also contains socioeconomic demographics, financial variables, class size, and much more.</p>

Student Creativity in Information Literacy Instruction - OER video for high school educators

<p>This video was produced in an information literacy course at the School of Information Studies (&Eacute;SIS) at the University of Ottawa, Canada, in Spring 2022. It is shared as an open educational resource (OER) using CC-BY license to be re(used) to teach viewers about creativity in the context of information literacy.</p> <p>This video is meant to help educators teach information literacy to their high school students using creativity.</p> <p>The learning objective includes understanding methods to incorporate creativity in the instruction of information literacy through the form of content creation. The main goal is to engage the viewers and incentivize the target audience to implement creativity in their educational methods related to information literacy.</p> <p>This video was created in screencast-o-matic and edited using the same program and Lightworks.</p> <p>The slides used are from a presentation template from SlidesCarnival and illustrations by Sergei Tikhonov.</p> <p>The references used to create this project are displayed at the end of the video.</p>

Following Darwin's footsteps: Evaluating the impact of an activity designed for elementary school students to link historically important evolution key concepts on their understanding of natural selection

<p>While several researchers have suggested that evolution should be explored from the initial years of schooling, little information is available on effective resources to enhance elementary school students' level of understanding of evolution by natural selection (LUENS). For the present study, we designed, implemented and evaluated an educational activity planned for fourth graders to explore concepts and conceptual fields that were historically important for the discovery of natural selection. Observation field notes and students' productions were used to analyse how the students explored the proposed activity. Additionally, an evaluation framework consisting of a test, the evaluation criteria and the scoring process was applied in two fourth-grade classes to estimate elementary school students' LUENS before and after engaging in the activity. Our results suggest that our activity allowed students to effectively link all of the key concepts in the classroom and produced a significant increase in their LUENS. These results indicate that our activity had a positive impact on students' understanding of natural selection. They also reveal that additional activities and minor fine-tuning of the present activity are required to further support students' learning about the concept of differential reproduction. We also observed a low level of teleological predictions for both pre- and post-tests. --</p>

Assignment feedback in school choice mechanisms

<p>This paper experimentally investigates the provision of real-time feedback about school assignments during the preference reporting period in three widely employed mechanisms: deferred acceptance, top trading cycles, and the Boston mechanism. Adaptive models predict that greater sensitivity to tentative assignments during the reporting period will produce more equilibrium assignments in all three mechanisms. Consistent with adaptive predictions, real-time assignment feedback consistently increased equilibrium assignments but did not increase truthful reporting. These findings suggest that providing feedback about assignments during the preference reporting period could help student assignment mechanisms more reliably achieve policy goals.</p>
