Data from: Convergent evolution of disordered lipidic structural color in the fruits of Lantana strigocamara (syn. L. camara hybrid cultivar)

Research conducted: The majority of plant colors are produced by anthocyanin and carotenoid pigments, but coloration obtained by nanostructured materials (i.e., structural colors) is increasingly reported in plants. Here, we identify a multilayer photonic structure in the fruits of Lantana strigocamara and compare it to a previously described origin in Viburnum tinus.

Methods: We used a combination of transmission electron microscopy, serial EM tomography, scanning force microscopy, and optical simulations to characterize the photonic structure in L. strigocamara. We also examine the development of the structure during maturation.

Key results: We find that the structural color derives from a disordered, multilayered reflector consisting of lipid droplets of ~105 nm that form a plate-like structure in 3D. This structure begins to form early in development and reflects blue wavelengths of light with increasing intensity over time as the structure develops. The lipids used are likely polymers of lipid monomers.

Main conclusions: Lantana strigocamara is the second origin of a lipid-based photonic structure, convergently evolved with the structure in Viburnum tinus. Chemical differences between the lipids in L. strigocamara and those of V. tinus suggest a distinct evolutionary trajectory with implications for the signaling function of structural colors in fruits.

MINDFULNESS, REARING STYLES AND EMOTION DYSREGULATION IN A SAMPLE OF ADOLESCENTS WITH BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER.

Our objective is to understand the influence of rearing styles and mindfulness skills in emotion dysregulation and BPD in adolescents. We tested the idea in this study. Firstly, we compared rearing styles, emotion dysregulation, and mindfulness skills between a clinical BPD group and a non-clinical control group. We sought to determine whether these characteristics were present in different levels in adolescents with and without BPD features or other psychopathologies. Later, we analyzed the effect of the different rearing styles and mindfulness skills in emotion dysregulation and borderline characteristics.

Date advanced functional nuclear magnetic resonance techniques for pediatric population diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is highly prevalent childhood-onset neurodevelopment disorder. Several clinical tools are used for ADHD diagnosis such as behavior rating scales, intelligence tests, severity, and dysfunction scales. However, these methods depend to the experience and training of physician increasing human error. DICOM Images using Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) provides quantitative result such as fractional anisotropy or the number of tracts that could be helpful to support ADHD diagnosis.

alfa-synuclein spectra for the paper "Linear discriminant analysis reveals hidden patterns in NMR chemical shifts of intrinsically disordered proteins"

The experimental data for the paper "Linear discriminant analysis
reveals hidden patterns in NMR chemical shifts of intrinsically
disordered proteins" - four spectra of an intrinsically disordered
protein alfa-synuclein:

3D HNCO

4D HabCab(CO)NH

4D (H)N(CA)CONH

4D HNCACO

All spectra were acquired using non-uniform sampling (schedules included
as 'schedule.txt' files in a format of 'Kozminski' method in VnmrJ). 3D
spectrum (HNCO_nuFT.ucsf) was processed using multidimensional Fourier transform
(http://nmr.cent3.uw.edu.pl/software, program 'toastd'). Additionally, we provide a spectrum cleaned of NUS artifacts (HNCO_artifacts_cleaned.ucsf) using program handy (http://nmr.cent3.uw.edu.pl/software, program 'handy').

4D spectra were processed using sparse multidimensional Fourier transform
(http://nmr.cent3.uw.edu.pl/software, program 'reduced'), based on a
HNCO peak list ('peak.list' file). Files with processing parameters are
included as 'parameters.txt' files.

The resulting spectra are included as Sparky .ucsf files. The files for
4D spectra are the collections of 2D cross-sections with the
cross-section number corresponding to the numbering of HNCO peaks in the
'peak.list' file.

The folder 'Application2_assignment_transfer' contains Sparky 'ucsf' and 'save' files of the two-dimensional NH projection of the HNCO spectrum with the experimental (HSQC_exp.list) and BMRB (HSQC_bmrb.list) peak lists read into the spectrum. The experimental peaks are marked with arbitrary numbers and BMRB peaks - with names of the preceding aa-residues. The correct assignment is shown in the file 'assignment.txt'.

Data underpinning "Local integrals of motion and the stability of many-body localisation in disorder-free systems"

Many-body localisation in disordered systems in one spatial dimension is typically understood in terms of the existence of an extensive number of (quasi)-local integrals of motion (LIOMs) which are thought to decay exponentially with distance and interact only weakly with one another. By contrast, little is known about the form of the integrals of motion in disorder-free systems which exhibit localisation. Here, we explicitly compute the LIOMs for disorder-free localised systems, focusing on the case of a linearly increasing potential. We show that while in the absence of interactions, the LIOMs decay faster than exponentially, the addition of interactions leads to the formation of a spatially extended plateau. We study how varying the linear slope affects the localisation properties of the LIOMs, finding that there is a significant finite-size dependence, and present evidence that adding a weak harmonic potential does not result in typical many-body localisation phenomenology. By contrast, the addition of disorder has a qualitatively different effect, dramatically modifying the properties of the LIOMs. Based on this, we speculate that disorder-free localisation is unlikely to be stable at long times and for large systems.

Feeding foliar nano-selenium biofortified Panax notoginseng could reduce the occurrence of glycolipid metabolism disorder in mice caused by high-fat diets

Nano-selenium (nano-Se) has been extensively explored as a biostimulant for improving the quality of grain crops. However, there are few reports about the effect on the medicinal components of Chinese herbal medicine cultured with nano-Se. Here, we sprayed nano-Se during the cultivation of Panax notoginseng (SePN), and measured the changes of medicinal components compared with conventional Panax notoginseng (PN). Furthermore, we identified a more pronounced effect of SePN on reducing obesity in animals compared with PN. By measuring antioxidant capacity, histopathology, gene expression related to glycolipid metabolism, and gut microbiota composition, we propose a potential mechanism for SePN to improve animal health. Compared with the control groups, foliar spraying of nano-Se increased saponins content (Rb2, Rb3, Rc, F2, Rb2, and Rf) in the roots of Panax notoginseng, and the content of Rb2 increased by 3.9 times in particular. Interestingly, animal studies indicated that taking selenium-rich Panax notoginseng (SePN) can further ameliorate liver antioxidation (SOD, MDA, and GSH) and enzyme activities involved in glycolipid metabolism (ATGL and PFK). It also relieved inflammation and regulated the expression of genes (MCAD, PPAR-α, and PCSK9) related to fatty acid oxidation. The abundance ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroides and beneficial bacteria abundance (Bifidobacterium, Butyricimonas, and Parasutterella) in gut microbiota were improved relative to the control. In summary, the application of nano-Se on PN may effectively raise the content of Panax notoginseng saponins (PNS) and immensely lower the risk of metabolic disorders of glycolipids.

Categorisation of monogenic disorders: Underlying a deficit of type I IFN activity / observed type I IFN signalling upregulation

The last 20 years have seen the definition of human monogenic disorders and their autoimmune phenocopies underlying either defective or enhanced type I interferon (IFN) activity. These disorders delineate the impact of type I IFNs in natural conditions. Remarkably, only a narrow window of type I IFN activity is beneficial. Insufficient type I IFN predisposes humans to life-threatening viral diseases, albeit surprisingly few, with a central role in immunity to respiratory and cerebral viral infection. Excessive type I IFN, perhaps unexpectedly, appears to underlie a greater number of autoinflammatory and/or autoimmune conditions known as type I interferonopathies, whose study has revealed multiple molecular programs involved in the induction of type I IFN signaling. These observations suggest the manipulation of type I IFN activity to within a physiological range may be clinically relevant for the prevention and treatment of viral and inflammatory disease.
