Dataset related to article "Role of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for the Management of Oligometastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma"

This record contains raw data related to article "Role of Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for the Management of Oligometastatic Renal Cell Carcinoma"

PURPOSE: Kidney cancer has been increasing 1.7% annually. Renal cell carcinoma is the most common kidney cancer and it can metastasize. Our aim was to analyze patients treated with stereotactic body radiation therapy of renal cell carcinoma metastases.

MATERIALS AND METHODS:

A total of 58 patients (73 lesions) were treated from 2004 to 2016. Patients were candidates for analysis if a maximum of 3 metastases were diagnosed and the primary tumor was resected. Toxicity was classified according to Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events version 3.

RESULTS:

All patients had renal cell carcinoma, in particular the clear cell type in 82.7%. A total of 39 metastases (53.4%) were located in the lungs and 19 (26%) were in the lymph nodes. Less common were metastases to bone (9.5% of cases), the liver (4.1%) and the adrenal gland (6.8%). Median followup was 16.1 months (range 3.5 to 157.1). The local control rate at 12 and 18 months was 90.2% and 90.2%, respectively. The progression-free survival rate at 12 and 18 months was 46.2% (95% CI 32.2-59) and 35% (95% CI 21.4-48.9), respectively. On univariate and multivariable analyses metachronous and single metastases predicted better progression-free survival. Systemic therapy before stereotactic body radiation therapy predicted improved local control in clear cell cases.

CONCLUSIONS:

Stereotactic body radiation therapy can be considered a safe approach and it provides effective local control of oligometastatic renal cell carcinoma. However, future prospective studies are necessary to evaluate the impact on survival and quality of life.

Dataset related to article "Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Lung and Liver Oligometastases from Breast Cancer: Toxicity Data of a Prospective Non-Randomized Phase II Trial"

This record contains raw data related to article "Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Lung and Liver Oligometastases from Breast Cancer: Toxicity Data of a Prospective Non-Randomized Phase II Trial"

Abstract

Aims: We report the mature toxicity data of a phase II non-randomized trial on the use of SBRT for lung and liver oligometastases.

Methods: Oligometastatic patients from breast cancer were treated with SBRT for up to five lung and/or liver lesions. Inclusion criteria were: age > 18 years, ECOG 0-2, diagnosis of breast cancer, less than five lung/liver lesions (with a maximum diameter <5 cm), metastatic disease confined to the lungs and liver or extrapulmonary or extrahepatic disease stable or responding to systemic therapy. Various dose-fractionation schedules were used. Then, a 4D-CT scan and FDG-CTPET were acquired for simulation and fused for target definition.

Results: From 2015 to 2021, 64 patients and a total of 90 lesions were irradiated. Treatment was well tolerated, with no G 3-4 toxicities. No grade ≥3 toxicities were registered and the coprimary endpoint of the study was met. Median follow-up was 19.4 months (range 2.6-73.1).

Conclusions: The co-primary endpoint of this phase II trial was met, showing excellent tolerability of SBRT for lung and liver oligometastatic in breast cancer patients. Until efficacy data will mature with longer follow-up, SBRT should be regarded as an opportunity for oligometastatic breast cancer patients.

Dataset related to article "Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Lung Metastases From Sarcoma in Oligometastatic Patients: A Phase 2 Study"

This record contains raw data related to article "Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Lung Metastases From Sarcoma in Oligometastatic Patients: A Phase 2 Study"

Abstract

Purpose: The lung is the most frequent site of metastasis in patients with sarcoma. Pulmonary metastasectomy is the most common treatment performed. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has proven to be a potential alternative to resection. This prospective phase 2 study aimed to assess the role of SBRT for patients with lung metastases.

Methods and materials: Adult patients with up to 4 lung metastases (LMs) ≤5 cm in diameter and unsuitable for surgery were included. Dose prescription was based on site and size: 30 Gy/1 fraction for peripheral lesions ≤10 mm, 60 Gy/3 fractions for peripheral lesions 11 to 20 mm, 48 Gy/4 fractions for peripheral lesions >20 mm, and 60 Gy/8 fractions for central lesions. The primary endpoint was the proportion of treated lesions free from progression at 12 months. Secondary endpoints were disease-free survival (DFS), overall survival (OS), and toxicity.

Results: Between March 2015 and December 2020, 44 patients with a total of 71 LMs were enrolled. Twelve-month local control was 98.5% ± 1.4%, reaching the primary aim; the median DFS time was 12 months (95% CI, 8-16 months), and the 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year PFS rates were 50% ± 7.5%, 19.5% ± 6.6%, 11.7% ± 5.8%, 11.7% ± 5.8%, and 11.7% ± 5.8%, respectively. The median OS time was 49 months (95% CI, 24-49 months), and the 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-year OS rates were 88.6% ± 4.7%, 66.7 ± 7.6%, 56.8% ± 8.4%, 53.0% ± 8.6%, and 48.2% ± 9.1%, respectively. Prognostic factors recorded as significantly affecting survival were age, grade of primary sarcoma, interval time from diagnosis to occurrence of LMs, and number of LMs. No severe pulmonary toxicity (grade 3-4) occurred.

Conclusions: The study found a local control of LMs in almost all patients treated, with negligible toxicity. Survival was also highly satisfactory. Well-designed randomized trials comparing surgery with SBRT for patients with metastatic lung sarcoma are needed to confirm these preliminary data
