Samples were drilled every 1.25 cm (~26 d intervals) across the horizontal growth lines along the plate for the first 35 cm of growth to maximize the possibility of capturing data on the entanglement event from more recent baleen growth, and every 2.5 cm (~52 d intervals) for the reminder of the plate to establish baseline levels of GCs prior to the entanglement. Samples were collected using a hand-held Dremel rotary tool to produce pulverized baleen powder for glucocorticoid hormone analysis.

Figure 2. Fishing rope recovered from bowhead whale 17B6 included two types of 19 mm diameter rope. Segment (#1) appeared to be white nylon rope, while segments (#s 2, 4, 5) were blue-flecked and most likely a copolymer rope. Segment (#3) was line used by the hunters during the harvest and was not part of the whale entanglement. Fraying of the rope ends was consistent with cut ends that had not been heat sealed or whipped. It was not possible to determine the status of the gear at the time of entanglement.

Normalized and batch-corrected concentration of 43 immune markers from 248 subjects with stress-related mental disorders and 36 healthy controls
<h1>Abstract</h1> <p>In a subset of patients with mental disorders, such as depression, low-grade inflammation and altered immune marker concentrations are observed. However, these immune alterations are often assessed by only one data type and small markers panels. Here, we used a transdiagnostic approach and combined data from two cohorts to define subgroups of depression symptoms across the diagnostic spectrum through a large-scale multi-omics clustering approach in 237 individuals. The method incorporated age, body mass index (BMI), 43 plasma immune markers and RNA-seq data from peripheral mononuclear blood cells (PBMCs). Our initial clustering revealed four clusters, including two immune-related depression symptom clusters characterized by elevated BMI, higher depression severity and elevated levels of immune markers such as interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1RA), C-reactive protein (CRP) and C-C motif chemokine 2 (CCL2 or MCP-1). In contrast, the RNA-seq data mostly differentiated a cluster with low depression severity, enriched in brain related gene sets. This cluster was also distinguished by electrocardiography data, while structural imaging data revealed differences in ventricle volumes across the clusters. Incorporating predicted cell type proportions into the clustering resulted in three clusters, with one showing elevated immune marker concentrations. The cell type proportion and genes related to cell types were most pronounced in an intermediate depression symptoms cluster, suggesting that RNA-seq and immune markers measure different aspects of immune dysregulation. Lastly, we found a dysregulation of the SERPINF1/VEGF-A pathway that was specific to dendritic cells by integrating immune marker and RNA-seq data. This shows the advantages of combining different data modalities and highlights possible markers for further stratification research of depression symptoms.</p> <h1>Methods</h1> <p>The normalized and batch-corrected concentration of 43 immune markers from 237 subjects with stress-related mental disorders and 36 healthy controls was determined in plasma. This data was used in the initial analysis. Interactive map of Heat Stress Compensability Classification (HSCC) application in 96 United States cities.
<p>This repository includes the interactive map in format .html of the very first application of the <strong>Heat Stress Compensability Classification (HSCC) in 96 cities in the United States </strong>showing the proportion of days with compensable and uncompensable heat stress from the top 10th percentile of hottest days from 2005-2020 in each place.</p> <p>This map offers the detailed results of the very first application of the classification system as in the journal article: <strong>The Development of an Adaptive Heat Stress Compensability Classification Applied to the United States</strong>, published in the 4th SNP special issue in the International Journal of Biometeorology. Duhumbi Phonology - Syllabic and Word Stress
<p>In Duhumbi, stress in general is non-distinctive, prosodic, and relatively unpronounced. In both disyllabic and polysyllabic words, stress falls on the first syllable. This also holds for polymorphemic lexemes, such as inflected words with suffixes. In glossary items in the Duhumbi lexicon, stress is indicated by a stress mark [ˈ] before the stressed syllable, whenever it is not predictable. Phrase stress is generally initial and falling towards the end of the phrase, combined with dependant-head word order in which subject/object precede the verb and we find postpositions rather than prepositions, although nouns always precede adjectives, but adverbs generally precede verbs. Leaf wound induced ultraweak photon emission is suppressed under anoxic stress: observations of Spathiphyllum under aerobic and anaerobic conditions using novel in vivo methodology
<p>Dataset for paper: ABSTRACT: </p> <p>Plants have evolved a variety of means to energetically sense and respond to abiotic and biotic environmental stress. Two typical photochemical signaling responses involve the emission of volatile organic compounds and light. The emission of certain leaf wound volatiles and light are mutually dependent upon oxygen which is subsequently required for the wound-induced lipoxygenase reactions that trigger the formation of fatty acids and hydroperoxides; ultimately leading to photon emission by chlorophyll molecules. A low noise photomultiplier with sensitivity in the visible spectrum (300 – 720 nm) is used to continuously measure long duration ultraweak photon emission of dark-adapting whole <em>Spathiphyllum</em>leaves (<em>in vivo</em>). Leaves were mechanically wounded after two hours of dark adaptation in aerobic and anaerobic conditions. It was found that (1) nitrogen incubation did not affect the pre-wound basal photocounts; (2) wound induced leaf biophoton emission was significantly suppressed when under anoxic stress; and (3) the aerobic wound induced emission spectra observed was > 650 nm, implicating chlorophyll as the likely emitter. Limitations of the PMT photocathode’s radiant sensitivity, however, prevented accurate analysis from 700 – 720 nm. Further examination of leaf wounding profile photon counts revealed that the pre-wounding basal state (aerobic and anoxic), the anoxic wounding state, and the post-wounding aerobic state statistics all approximate a Poisson distribution. It is additionally observed that aerobic wounding induces two distinct exponential decay events. These observations contribute to the body of plant wound-induced luminescence research and provide a novel methodology to measure this phenomenon <em>in vivo</em>.</p>

<p>The experimental campaign was devoted to study the velocity profile inside the small scale flume for several bottom configurations. In particular, the following configurations were considered: thin sand (D<sub>50</sub>=0.25 mm); coarse sand (D<sub>50</sub>=0.56 mm); mixed sand: 10% coarse sand and 90% thin sand; mixed sand: 20% coarse sand and 80% thin sand; mixed sand: 30% coarse sand and 70% thin sand; mixed sand: 40% coarse sand and 60% thin sand; small gravel (diameter between 3 and 5 mm); gravel (diameter between 9 and 14 mm); small gravel and thin sand; gravel and thin sand.</p>
