Apollo as the Genius of the Arts

[Apollo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo), the Classical god of light, poetry, music, healing and prophecy, was often used to represent the trades, arts and professions. Here he is their protector. There is a bird of prey on his shoulder and a lamb by his left foot. He wears a laurel wreath on his head and carries a pomegranate. The figure is naked except for narrow red bands to which are attached the symbols of trades, professions, crafts and artistic pursuits of the many guilds of the time. Decoration is confined to the front of the statue suggesting that the piece was made to stand in a corner. The feet are not original. Discovered on an April afternoon in 1963, after an explosion of a quarry, the Escoural Cave proved to be an unavoidable site for the history of archeology in Portugal. What the cavel represents today transcends its tourist value, and assumes itself as an international reference for Paleolithic art as the westernmost point of Europe with such artistic representations of Prehistory. The cave art of the Escoural Cave fits in chronologically between 20,000 and 18,000 years a. C. In addition to the engravings, paintings depicting various figures from aurochs to equines as well as geometrical are also known. Panel de pinturas de la quebrada el Medano, próximo al poblado de Paposo, en la costa de la región de Antofagasta, Chile. En este panel destaca la escena de caza de camélidos y la escena de caza aparentemente de cetáceos (cacería marítima sobre embarcaciones). Probablemente este panel represente actividades cotidianas o bien podría corresponder a algún relato mítico. Estas pinturas de color rojo fueron aplicadas con algún tipio de instrumento (pincel), dado el fino trazo de algunos diseños. Respecto de la cronología de estas pinturas, esta no es del todo clara y podría corresponder a la representación de poblaciones del periodo arcaico, sin embargo, no se descarta sean más tardíos. The parish apartment in **Slobodnica** (Croatia - Slavonia) from 1914 was made according to the artistic style of **Art Nouveau**. The façade has **three features** that marked that period. The style started in France (at the end of the 19th century) and came to the rural part of Croatia before the First World War. It was a **status symbol**. Župni stan u Slobodnici (Hrvatska - Slavonija) iz 1914. godine je napravljen prema umjetničkom stilu secesije. Pročelje ima tri crte koje su obilježile to razdoblje. Broughmore Wood 2 - Quern Stones & Rock Art
Like Broughmore Wood 1, this rock surface shows rock art features (notably a rosette and some cup marks) together with quern stone and miniature quern stone rough-outs and extraction depressions. A plan is now in the pipeline for a full excavation of the site, which it is hoped will shed more light on its chronology and, hopefully, reveal even of these more fascinating rock surfaces.
