Experimental data and software for: Defaults: a double-edged sword in governing common resources

Experimental data and software for the paper: Defaults: a double-edged sword in governing common resources

The experiment consisted in three treatments of the Common Pool Resource Dilemma, where three default interventions were applied: pro-social, self-serving and no default. Plus, the participants had to complete an SVO task and a Risk assessment task.

Description of the data and file structure

In the file called
all_participants.csv
is the full dataset of all participants that took part of the experiment. This includes participants who will end up excluded and dropouts.

The experimental data files come in two formats: wide and long. The wide version, called
data_wide_format.csv
contains one row per participant and a column for all the fields, including rounds from 1 to 10 of the CPR task. Also, this file includes all demographic information of the participants, times and payments. The ID shown is generated internally and has no relationship with the participants' Prolific ID.

The long version, called
data_long_format.csv
, contains 10 rows per participant, and columns for the extraction and other variables necessary for analysis. This version contains the necessary data to reproduce all the figures and statistics detailed in the main manuscript.

In both of the previous files, the participants taken into account were the ones who completed the whole experiment. Those who did not complete the comprehension test, dropped out or did not sign the Informed Consent Form were excluded from the experimental data used. More details in the Methods below.

In the file
default_opinions.csv
, we manually classified the responses by participants to whether they were influenced by the default presented.

The file "
Instructions of the experiment.pdf
" contains the instructions of the experiment as shown to participants, also screenshots of the platform.

Community trust of government and non-governmental organizations during the 2014-16 Ebola epidemic in Liberia - survey responses

The West African Ebola Virus Disease epidemic of 2014-16 cost more than 11,000 lives. Interventions targeting key behaviors to curb transmission, such as safe funeral practices and reporting and isolating the ill, were initially unsuccessful in a climate of fear, mistrust, and denial. Building trust was eventually recognized as essential to epidemic response and prioritized, and trust was seen to improve toward the end of the epidemic as incidence fell. However, little is understood about how and why trust changed during Ebola, what factors were most influential to community trust, and how different institutions might have been perceived under different levels of exposure to the outbreak. In this large-N household survey conducted in Liberia in 2018, we measured self-reported trust over time retrospectively in three different communities with different exposures to Ebola. We found trust was consistently higher for non-governmental organizations than for the government of Liberia across all time periods. Trust reportedly decreased significantly from the start to the peak of the epidemic in the study site of highest Ebola incidence. This finding, in combination with a negative association found between knowing someone infected and trust of both iNGOs and the government, indicates the experience of Ebola may have itself caused a decline of trust in the community. These results suggest that national governments should aim to establish trust when engaging communities to change behavior during epidemics. Further research on the relationship between trust and epidemics may serve to improve epidemic response efficacy and behavior uptake.

Data from: Early Firm Engagement, Government Research Funding, and the Privatization of Public Knowledge

This is a demo and partial dataset of a full dataset of paper- patent pair from chinese chemical scholars. The full dataset covers the published English papers and the paired patents by some of the scholars of the chemical and pharmaceutical field who received the Distinguished Young Scholars of the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC) during 2009–2018. Data related to the papers are obtained from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) and WoS; data related to the scholars are obtained from the NSFC website, the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MSTC) website, and the scholars' home pages; and data related to the patents are obtained from the CNIPA website. The dataset also covers the data on the average number of patent infringement cases at the prefecture level from China Judgements Online (CJO) using crawlers and text mining techniques to reflect the degree of local intellectual property protection (IPR). Besides the paper information, the dataset also contains the corresponding scholars' funding information and the paired patents[1] information gathered through “patent–paper pairs.”

This demo datasets covers about 1/15 samples of the full datast. The detail variable explanation will be found in the "label" and "Notes" column after every variable name in the DTA data file. As a series of related papers are published, we will gradually publish the full data set.

[1] A small number of papers may be paired with multiple patents. We deal with the situation of multiple paired patents when constructing variables. See “Variable” section of original paper for detailed illustrations.
