The EcoTrends project was established in 2004 by Dr. Debra Peters (Jornada Basin LTER, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range) and Dr. Ariel Lugo (Luquillo LTER, USDA-FS Luquillo Experimental Forest) to support the collection and analysis of long-term ecological datasets. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA). The web portal is a collaboration between the Jornada LTER and the LTER Network Office. The following dataset from Harvard Forest (HFR) contains air temperature (mean minimum) measurements in celsius units and were aggregated to a monthly timescale.

Decades of water column temperature, lake level and meteorological data of Lake Lacawac, a pristine glacial lake at Lacawac Biological Field Station in the Pocono mountains, Pennsylvania USA (1992-2019)

Lake Lacawac weather and the lake water column were monitored to observe seasonal and interannual temperature and lake level patterns in response to solar heating, wind-driven water column mixing, precipitation, evaporation, watershed runoff and seepage, and outflow (L. Lacawac has an outflow stream but no inflow stream, and is surrounded on one side by peat bogs). Several studies have shown the lake to have a slow exchange by seepage (slightly more seeping in than out except during dry months). Over the years the raft data have been used to calibrate heat flux, mixing, and evaporation models for the lake, to study zooplankton and phytoplankton distribution and dissolved organic matter flux (photobleaching in the water column, influx from the watershed, and exchange with bottom sediments) and associated UV transparency. The data have also been used to accompany experimental manipulations of lake organisms (algae, zooplankton, fish) in relation to exposure to UV radiation. More recently these lake data have been useful in developing lake indices of climate change.

   As part of the Long Term Ecological Research in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica, meteorological data was collected from various locations throughout Beacon, Taylor, Wright and Victoria Valleys. These files contain data for the Garwood Ice Cliff meteorology  station. This station reported data for about a year, during 2011. On January 10, 2012 the station was being transferred to the custody of the MCM LTER program by Joe Levy (UT), completing of the handover on the Austral summer of 2014. The GAFM station was moved ~5 m from its original site in 2013 (out of the stream bed).     The Garwood ice cliff met station ceased operations in 2013.   Â

<p>The collection includes three text files (Arizona_meteo_hourly_01.txt; Arizona_meteo_hourly_02.txt; Arizona_meteo_daily.txt) with hourly and daily values of measurements from 40 meteorological stations located in Arizona (USA). The data was collected from September to November 2024 by Sylwester Wereski as a part of MINIATURA 5 "The occurrence of strong heat stress in hot and arid climate condition" (2021/05/X/ST10/00587), the research internship project at Arizona State University financed by the National Science Center in Poland. The source of data is website https://cales.arizona.edu/azmet/az-data.htm managed by AZMET (The Arizona Meteorological Network). The collection also includes a Readme.txt file, which contains a description of the location of the meteorological stations and the period of measurements conducted, as well as a description of meteorological variables.</p>

2-minute PALMOS automatic weather station meteorological measurements (precipitation, radiation, cloud base, temperature, etc.) from Palmer Station Antarctica, 2001 - March 2017.

Automated weather observation station at Palmer Station Antarctica using Coastal Environment sensors. Started recording in November 2001. Overlapped for two years with manual observations. In December 2003, the PalMOS automated report generator was brought online and the manual observations discontinued. The sole manual observation remaining is the daily snow-level and new snow level measurements.

Niwot Ridge LTER Precipitation Measured at C-1 Meteorological Station 1952-2012

Patterns of biodiversity, such as the increase toward the tropics and the peaked curve during ecological succession, are fundamental phenomena for ecology. Such patterns have multiple, interacting causes, but temperature emerges as a dominant factor across organisms from microbes to trees and mammals, and across terrestrial, marine, and freshwater environments. However, there is little consensus on the underlying mechanisms, even as global temperatures increase and the need to predict their effects becomes more pressing. The purpose of this project is to generate and test theory for how temperature impacts biodiversity through its effect on biochemical processes and metabolic rate. A combination of standardized surveys in the field and controlled experiments in the field and laboratory measure diversity of three taxa -- trees, invertebrates, and microbes -- and key biogeochemical processes of decomposition in seven forests distributed along a geographic gradient of increasing temperature from cold temperate to warm tropical. This daily precipitation data from Niwot Ridge LTER site, 1952-2012, recorded at C-1 Meteorological Station, was retrieved from the CLIMDB/HYDRODB data base at http://www.fsl.orst.edu/climhy/ as part of a macrosystems biodiversity and latitude project supported by the National Science Foundation under Cooperative Agreement DEB#1065836.
