Bipartite plant-pollinator diurnal and nocturnal networks for three mountain systems of the Iberian Peninsula.

<p>Dataset generated for the article "Addition of nocturnal pollinators modifies the structure of pollination" networks" (DOI:10.1038/s41598-023-49944-y).&nbsp;</p> <p>Diurnal and nocturnal plant-flower visitor networks (hereafter, plant-pollinator networks) were built for each site during the flowering season of 2010 (Picos de Europa) and 2011 (Sierra de Guadarrama and Sierra Nevada). To build the diurnal networks, interactions between plants and floral visitors were recorded along diurnal transects at each site, where all insects contacting the reproductive structures of the flowers were recorded. The sampled area differed between sites from 500&thinsp;&times;&thinsp;250 m in Picos de Europa to 150&thinsp;&times;&thinsp;100 m in Sierra Nevada and 100&thinsp;&times;&thinsp;60 m in Sierra de Guadarrama. These differences were dependent on the small-scale heterogeneity of vegetation. The transects were evenly distributed throughout the study area. The length of the transects varied depending on the size of the study area. Diurnal transects were performed from 10 to 18 h on sunny days with mild wind conditions for pollinator activity. Nocturnal plant-pollinator networks were built for each site by trapping moths using light traps and analysing their pollen loads. Light traps consisted of a UV light surrounded by three white triangular sheets. Moths landing on the sheets were immediately trapped and stored in individual vials with a small piece of tissue and some drops of ethyl acetate.</p> <p>For more details on the methodology see original publication.</p>

Glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers in the Padul palaeolake record (Sierra Nevada, southern Iberian Peninsula) for the last 36 kyr

<p>This data file contains the total organic carbon (TOC) content and the distribution of isoprenoid and branched glycerol dialkyl glycerol tetraethers (isoGDGTs and brGDGTs, respectively) from the Padul palaeolake record (Padul-15-05 sediment core) covering the last 36-4.7 kyr. BrGDGTs-based indices (MBT&#39;<sub>5ME</sub> and CBT&#39;) have been calculated and used for reconstructing paleoenvironmental conditions such as mean annual air temperature (MAAT), mean temperature of Months Above Freezing (MAF) and lake-pH.&nbsp;</p> <p>The identification of the IIIa&#39;&#39; isomer and calculation of the IIIa&#39;&#39; ratio have been used to evaluate the in-situ production in the water column of brGDGTs.</p> <p>The&nbsp; abundance of the isomer of crenarchaeol (%cren&#39;) relative to crenarchaeol evaluates the presence of other archaea than aquatic Thaumarchaeota.</p> <p>The composition of the brGDGTs in form of&nbsp; in the Padul palaeolake sedimentary record (triangles). The tetramethylated (Ia-c),&nbsp; pentamethylated (IIa-IIc and IIa&#39;-IIc&#39;), and hexamethylated (IIIa-IIIc and IIIa&#39;-IIIc&#39;) brGDGTs are provided in order to compare with data reported from surface sediments of other lakes over the world.</p>

Understanding the local drivers of beta-diversity patterns under climate change: The case of seaweed communities in Galicia, North West of the Iberian Peninsula

<p>Aim: To understand spatial-temporal changes (beta-diversity) in coastal communities and their drivers in the context of climate change. Coastal ecosystems are extremely exposed and dynamic, where changes in seaweed assemblages have been associated with changing water temperatures. However, at the local scale, the effects of changes in the upwelling events and related stressors seek further exploration.<br> <br> Location: Galicia rías, North West of the Iberian Peninsula<br> <br> Methods: Using data collected in 42 sampling localities in Galicia rias and over two time periods (1998 and 2014), we analyzed changes in the seaweed community's composition through time and space. We calculated the temporal beta diversity index and spatial beta diversity as the pairwise composition differences between sampling localities. We use generalized dissimilarity models, to identify local environmental drivers of spatial and temporal beta-diversity.<br> <br> Results: We found a significant change in seaweed communities of Galicia rias, between 1998 and 2014 (temporal beta-diversity). They were mostly related to species loss rather than to species replacement. The dissimilarity among localities (spatial beta diversity) was significantly higher in 2014 than 1998. Nitrate concentration was consistently predicted as the main driver of both temporal and spatial beta-diversity patterns.<br> <br> Main conclusions: Unlike other studies in marine ecosystems, our results suggest that observed changes in the structure of perennial seaweed assemblages in Galicia Rias might lead to a local biotic heterogenization, indirectly linked to climate change through changes in nutrients availability and the upwelling intensity. Changes in Galicia seaweed communities call scientific attention to the importance of local stressors in climate change studies.</p>

Stomach content DNA from Loligo vulgaris paralarvae in W Iberian Peninsula waters

<p>This dataset contains the DNA sequences obtained from 31 Loligo vulgaris paralarvae&nbsp; ranging from 1.61 to 6.01 mm that were between two and 28 days old. Digestive system of each paralarvae was dissected and DNA was extracted amplifying 300 bp fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene.</p> <p>The generated DNA fragments (DNA libraries) were sequenced with MiSeq Reagent Kit v3 in the lllumina MiSeq platform, using 300bp paired-end sequencing reads.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
