A large-scale wide-baseline light field dataset - Part II
<p>This dataset is the Part II of a large-scale, synthetic wide-baseline light field dataset (called WLF), including 16 light fields. </p> <p>Each light field provides 9x9 angular (RGB) images and ground truth disparities. This light field dataset involves the spatial resolution (1920x1080) images only.</p> <p>The dataset is originally created for training the deep learning-based models for depth estimation. You might use this dataset for other tasks if possible. </p> <p>You might also have a try to play with this dataset using our code in https://github.com/YanWQ/LLF-Net.</p>

The benefit of kidney transplantation versus remaining on the waitlist depends on patients' baseline comorbidities: a retrospective study
<p>Background:<b> </b>Patients with end-stage renal disease present comorbidities that increase mortality risk on the waitlist and after kidney transplantation. This study aimed to determine the impact of baseline comorbidities on the risk of death after kidney transplantation compared to remaining on the waitlist.</p> <p>Methods: Records of waitlisted patients were retrospectively analyzed. Multivariable time-dependent Cox-regression model was used to determine the initial and the lowest relative hazard-risk of death (HRD) after exposure to kidney transplantation.</p> <p>Results: 1692 patients were included in the study. Patients without comorbidities had the relative HRD 3-fold higher, immediately after kidney transplantation, but it reduced progressively, reaching equality to waitlist at 75 days and a HRD of 0.28 thereafter (p<0.001). Patients with Diabetes and coronary artery disease had an initial relative HRD of 2.41 (p=0.009) and 2.68 (p=0.009) and matched to the waitlist at 175 and 200 days, respectively. Patients with peripheral vascular disease, had an initial relative HRD 3.6-fold in the first 240 days (p=0.008) and patients with congestive heart failure a relative HRD of 7.47 (p=0.07). Both declined rapidly, reaching equality at 110 days. Finally, all comorbidities, except cerebrovascular disease, presented lower HRD on long-term follow-up.</p> <p>Conclusions: This study shows that the time and the range of relative HRD between kidney transplantation and waitlist varies depending upon the patients´ baseline comorbidities.</p>
Data from: Reduction of baseline corticosterone secretion correlates with climate warming and drying across wild lizard populations
1. Climate change should lead to massive loss of biodiversity in most taxa but the detailed physiological mechanisms underlying population extinction remain largely elusive so far. In vertebrates, baseline levels of hormones such as glucocorticoids (GCs) may be indicators of population state since their secretion to chronic stress can impair survival and reproduction. However, the relationship between GC secretion, climate change and population extinction risk remains unclear. 2. In this study we investigated whether levels of baseline corticosterone (the main GCs in reptiles) correlate with environmental conditions and associated extinction risk across wild populations of the common lizard Zootoca vivipara. 3. First, we performed a cross-sectional comparison of baseline corticosterone levels along an altitudinal gradient among 14 populations. Then, we used a longitudinal study in 8 populations to examine the changes in corticosterone levels following the exposure to a heat wave period. 4. Unexpectedly, baseline corticosterone decreased with increasing thermal conditions at rest in females, and was not correlated with extinction risk. In addition, baseline corticosterone levels decreased after exposure to an extreme heat wave period. This seasonal corticosterone decrease was more pronounced in populations without access to standing water. 5. We suggest that low basal secretion of corticosterone may entail down-regulating activity levels and limit exposure to adverse climatic conditions, especially to reduce water loss. These new insights suggest that rapid population decline might be preceded by a down-regulation of the corticosterone secretion.
