Residual stress in 316L stainless steel benchmark additively manufactured arches determined by neutron diffraction and snychtron X-ray diffraction

<p>Residual stress data recorded as part of the EASI-STRESS project.&nbsp;</p> <p>The data presented is the residual stress in three orthogonal directions determined by neutron diffraction (SALSA at ILL) and synchrotron X-ray diffraction (P07 and P61A at Desy operated by Hereon and ID15A at ESRF). The data is for residual stress in a benchmark 316L stainless steel arch manufactured by laser powder bed fusion using a MetalFAB1 additive manufacturing machine. The arch is square topped with dimensions of nominally 20 mm in both the x and y direction (in plane). The overhang which creates the arch shape runs parallel to the y direction. The height of the arch is nominally 10 mm with the ligament above the over hang being of 2 mm nominal thickness.&nbsp;</p> <p>Data for two lines is presented: line 1 runs from the centre of the top surface (defined at the origin) down into the arch (defined as positive z direction). Line 2 runs along to the x axis at a depth of 1 mm into the arch.&nbsp;</p> <p>The stress-free reference used was a reference comb cut from an identically made arch.</p> <p>Different gauge volume sizes and shapes were defined at each institution, all measurement locations indicate the centre of the gauge volume during each measurement. gauge volumes were: P07 200 x 200 &micro;m2, ~1.9 mm, P61A 150 &times; 150 &micro;m2 ~2.9 mm, ID15A 200 &acute; 50 &micro;m2 ~1.7 mm, SALSA 0.6 x 0.6 x2 mm3.</p>

Residual stress data for T6 AlSiCuMg cast wedges determined by neutron diffraction

<p>Residual stress data measured in cast AlSiCuMg wedges in the T6 condition by neutron diffraction at POLDI (PSI) and ENGIN-X (ISIS).&nbsp;<br><br>The wedges were measured at POLDI in three orthogonal directions corresponding to the height of the wedge (x) the depth of the wedge (x) and cross sectional thickness of the wedge (y). The gauge volume was 4 mm cube.&nbsp;<br><br>The stress-free reference was an identically made wedge which had been cut into a reference comb be electro discharge machining. The comb was measured at ENGIN-X using a 2 mm cubic gauge volume. The height of the arch is nominally 10 mm with the ligament above the over hang being of 2 mm nominal thickness.&nbsp;</p> <p>Data for part in both an as built and after a 700 &deg;C 2 hour heat treatment are presented. The measurement &nbsp;line runs from the centre of the top surface (defined at the origin) down into the arch (defined as positive z direction).</p> <p>The stress-free reference used was a reference comb cut from an identically made arches. Physiological Data Collected from smartwatch: EDA, Pulse Rate, and Skin Temperature for Stress and Fatigue Analysis

<p>The dataset contains multiple columns capturing both <strong>physiological and demographic data</strong>.<strong> Physiological data</strong>, collected using the <strong>Empatica EmbracePlus smartwatch,</strong> includes electrodermal activity (EDA), pulse rate, and skin temperature. These metrics provide insights into participants' stress and fatigue levels. Empatica's proprietary algorithms preprocess the raw data, extracting digital biomarkers and metrics that reflect the wearer's physiological and behavioral states. <strong>The processed data is aggregated on a per-minute basis.</strong></p> <p>Demographic information, such as age, gender, fitness level, and sleep duration from the previous night, is also included. Additionally, participants rated their perceived physical fatigue on the Borg scale (ranging from 6 to 20), offering a subjective measure of exertion during or after physical tasks.</p> <p>The dataset was collected during controlled simulations of industrial tasks in a fitness environment. Wearable Device Dataset from Induced Stress and Structured Exercise Sessions

<p>This original dataset contains physiological signals collected during structured acute stress induction and aerobic and anaerobic exercise sessions using a wearable device. Blood volume pulse, motion-based activity, skin temperature, and electrodermal activity were recorded with the Empatica E4, a research-grade wearable. The stress induction protocol involved math and emotional tasks designed to provoke stress responses, interleaved with rest periods. Self-reported stress levels were also recorded during this procedure. For the exercise sessions, distinct routines on a stationary bike were created for aerobic and anaerobic activities. The dataset includes records from 36 healthy volunteers for stress sessions, 30 for aerobic exercise, and 31 for anaerobic exercise. By examining the variations in physiological signals, the effects of these activities can be analyzed. This dataset is a valuable resource for research on stress and exercise detection and classification.</p>

<p>This dataset contains data and code used in the research work for the manuscript &quot;Influence of cross-correlation on the modelled uncertainty in stress&ndash;strain behavior of soft clays&quot;. The study considered two case studies, Haarajoki clay and Suurpelto clay. Two settlement calculation methods were used: compression index method and Janbu (tangential stiffness) method. In addition, clay database FI-CLAY/14/856 was extended and used to study cross-correlations between compressibility paramaters at different clay sites. Version 2 of FI-CLAY/14/856 is provided, including some other updates and corrections also.</p> <p>The Monte Carlo simulation with Gaussian copula was implemented with Python in Jupyter Notebook environment. In addition to data and code, supplementary figures are also provided. Drought stress triggers differential survival and functional trait responses in the establishment of Arnica montana seedlings

<ul> <li>The establishment and survival of seedlings are critical stages in the life cycle of plants and therefore usually well timed to humid and favourable conditions. Climate projections suggest that the threatened mountain grassland species <em>Arnica montana</em> may be increasingly exposed to drought stress. However, studies that focus on the species&rsquo; early development are missing. We evaluated impacts of drought-induced stress on <em>A. montana</em> seedlings in their early establishment phase and identified traits for the species&rsquo; fitness decline.</li> <li>In a greenhouse experiment, we tested the response of <em>A. montana</em> seedlings to different drought levels (moderate, strong, extreme). To assess their fitness under increasing drought, we evaluated the survival of the seedlings based on four senescence stages and measured the performance of above- and belowground morphological and physiological functional traits.</li> <li><em>Arnica montana</em> seedlings showed high resistance to drought. Senescence accelerated and survival declined only under strong and extreme drought conditions. However, the seedlings&rsquo; vegetative performance decreased even with moderate drought, as indicated by smaller values of most leaf traits and some root traits. Physiological trait response was less sensitive.</li> <li>Drought stress hinders the establishment and survival of <em>A. montana</em> seedlings. Following the functional trait responses to drought and their associations with survival, we suggest declining leaf length, leaf width, and leaf number as sensitive traits that can lead to a decline performance.</li> </ul>

Reservoir hosts experiencing food stress alter transmission dynamics for a zoonotic pathogen

<p>Anthropogenic environmental change can significantly alter availability and quality of food resources for reservoir hosts and impact host-pathogen interactions in the wild. The state of the host's nutritional reserves as time of infection is a key factor influencing infection outcomes by altering host resistance. Here we combine experimental and model-based approaches to better understand how an environmental stressor affects host resistance to West Nile virus (WNV). Using American robins (Turdus migratorius), a species considered a superspreader of WNV, we tested the effect of acute food deprivation immediately prior to infection on host viremia. Our results show that robins food deprived of food for 48 hours prior to infection, developed higher virus titers and were infectious longer than robins fed normally. To gain understanding about the epidemiological significance of food stressed hosts, we developed an agent-based model that simulates transmission dynamics of WNV between the avian reservoir host and the mosquito vector. When we simulated a nutritionally stressed host population, the mosquito infection rate rose significantly reaching levels that represent an epidemiological risk. An understanding of the infection disease dynamics in wild populations is critical to predict and predict and mitigate zoonotic disease outbreaks.</p>
