Doppler Reflectometry Graphical Demonstration Movie with IPF-FD3D
<p>Doppler reflectometry is a microwave scattering diagnostic for measuring wavenumber resolved density fluctuation strengths in plasmas. Especially in fusion plasmas, turbulence is an ever-present phenomenon.</p> <p>This movie illustrates the scattering processes involved in building a wavenumber spectrum from scattering at different wavenumbers. For artistic purposes, the wave packets are much shorter than in a real application, where is would be quasi-continuous. The probing wave is emitted at different angles, which satisfies a different wavenumber matching condition each time.</p> <p>The finite difference time domain code IPF-FD3D was used to calculate the wave field inside the plasma.</p> <p>Reference: Lechte C, Conway G D, Görler T, Tröster C and the ASDEX Upgrade Team 2017 Plasma Phys. iTYSA GIS-based flood preparedness wireframe and mock-up demonstration
<p>This file contains three items. First, the complete wireframes in Adobe XD format for the development of a GIS-Based mobile application for flood risk preparedness. Second, a video presenting the potential look and functioning of the iTYSA flood preparedness app with a mock-up created by Abby Muricho Onencan. The mock-up was created with Adobe XD and the demonstration was created with an inbuilt functionality for Adobe XD to develop videos. Finally there is a readme file.</p>

Data from: Experimental demonstration of the importance of keystone communities for maintaining metacommunity biodiversity and ecosystem functioning
<p>As local communities within a metacommunity may differ considerably in their contributions to biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, it has been suggested that conservation priority should be given to disproportionately important local communities (i.e., keystone communities). However, we know little about what characterizes a keystone community. Using laboratory protist microcosms as the model system, we examined how the environmental uniqueness and location of a local community affect its contributions to the metacommunities. We found that the removal of local communities with unique environmental conditions, which supported endemic species, reduced regional-scale diversity, qualifying them as regional-scale keystone communities. In addition, the local communities possessing unique environmental conditions had greater impacts on ecosystem functions, including biovolume production and particulate organic matter decomposition. We also found that keystone communities for biovolume production were not keystone for organic matter decomposition, and vice versa. Our study, therefore, demonstrates the important role of keystone communities in maintaining biodiversity and functioning of metacommunities.</p>
ADVANCE Integrated final demonstration
<p>The video shows the selected scenario for the integrated demonstration of ADVANCE. The video was recorded by the company Bockfilm on behalf of LPA. The recordings took place in Lisbon in March 2019 during the final demonstration of ADVANCE at TAP main hub and maintenance facilities.</p> <p>Main Objective was to demonstrate that tools and enablers developed by the project, work together in a Collaborative Environment fully integrated and interconnected. The objective was successfully achieved. </p> <p>This video has been displayed in conferences, ADVANCE Dissemination and Closure Event, reviews. An iterative process for efficient optimisation of parameters in geoscientific models: a demonstration using the Parallel Ice Sheet Model (PISM) version 0.7.3
<p>Physical processes within geoscientific models are sometimes described by simplified schemes known as parameterisations. The values of the parameters within these schemes can be poorly constrained by theory or observation. Uncertainty in the parameter values translates into uncertainty in the outputs of the models. Proper quantification of the uncertainty in model predictions therefore requires a systematic approach for sampling parameter space. In this study, we develop a simple and efficient approach to identify regions of multi-dimensional parameter space that are consistent with observations. Using the Parallel Ice Sheet Model to simulate the present-day state of the Antarctic Ice Sheet, we find that co-dependencies between parameters preclude the identification of a single optimal set of parameter values. Approaches such as large ensemble modelling are therefore required in order to generate model predictions that incorporate proper quantification of the uncertainty arising from the parameterisation of physical processes.</p>
