Morphological measurements of coccoliths from surface samples of South China Sea

The dataset compiles morphological measurements of coccoliths (Gephyrocapsa spp. and Emiliania huxleyi, >2µm) from surface samples of the South China Sea retrieved at different depths of the basin during the R/V Sonne cruises (SO-95); and of Gephyrocapsa spp. from one sample from the Western Equatorial Pacific (ODP 807A, -2H-2W, 57-59 cm) used in a dissolution experiment. The columns include station names, Longitude, Latitude, Depth (m), how much Calgon was added into sediment suspension (in the dissolution experiment), number of coccoliths measured per sample, mean ks shape factor, thickness, length, volume, mass, and standard deviation of mean ks/mean ks.

China has extended its High-Speed Rail network from about 9.000 to 42.000 km of tracks with a fleet of Chinese made trains running on it. The first fully domestically engineered passenger aircraft C919 has started its commercial service and on June 6, the first domestically built large cruise ship, has left Shanghai for sea trials. China is undoubtedly making rapid progress in air, sea and rail transportation. What are China’s aims and what challenges does it face on the way? And what does this mean for European industries? Data for the manuscript 'Biological response to the interaction of a mesoscale eddy and the river plume in the northern South China Sea'

Satellite data includes daily sea-level anomaly from AVISO, daily surface chlorophyll a data from OC-CCI and sea surface salinity obtained from SMAP. Model simulated daily current, temperature, salinity, chlorophyll and nitrate concentration for three experiments (control, case1 and case2) from our coupled physical-biological model of the South China Sea . For chlorophyll and nitrate concentration, the dataset also includes the 16-day averaged budget terms along section S1. The modeled lagrangian particl tracking data is also avaiable. And all data and matlab scripts used to draw Fig. 1 to Fig. 10 are in Figure_data.rar file.

The complete mitochondrial genome of dwarf form of Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis (Cephalopoda: Ommastrephidae) from the South China Sea

The purpleback flying squid (Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis) is a pelagic squid with tremendous potential for commercial exploitation. Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis comprises two forms in the South China Sea, dwarf form and medium-sized form. In this study, we described the complete mitochondrial genome of dwarf form of Sthenoteuthis oualaniensis. The genome is 20320 bp in length, encoding the standard set of 13 protein-coding genes, 20 tRNA genes and 2 rRNA genes, with circular organization. The overall base composition of the whole mitochondrial genome was A (37.23%), T (32.78%), G (10.53%) and C (19.46%) with an AT bias of 70.01%. The longest protein-coding genes of these species was ND5, whereas the shortest ATP8.
