<p>The Excel-Sheet contains information (location of the site, chronological position, type of site, archaeological culture, literature, photographies and drawings, analysis made, results of the analysis, etc.) about the samples taken in the Volkswagen Fond Project no. 90 216 "Early mounted nomads and their vessels Ceramic analysis project aimed at supporting the reconstruction of socio-economic conditions in mobile populations north of the Black Sea between 1100 and 600 BC".</p> <p>The project itself focuses on contacts and interactions between groups with different material culture remains in two vegetation zones to the north of the Black Sea.The investigation takes a complex archaeometric approach to characterise the pottery of communities that lived in the forest steppe zone and steppe zone to the north of the Black Sea between the Dniester and Dnieper rivers between 1100 and 600 BC. By using an multidisciplinary approach to study the material culture of these communities with mobile lifeways, this project will allow the comparison of the natural science and archaeological data for the first time.</p> <p>The Excel-Sheet presents the results of various analyses performed during the project and serves as the database for publications of the project members.</p>

<p>The file <strong>dem_rep_processed.xlsx </strong>is a processed dataset contains quarterly real GDP, unemployment rate, recession, and presidency information for the United States post World War II from Truman to Obama. It was downloaded and processed from Blinder & Watson (2016) (DOI: 10.1257/aer.20140913).</p> <p>The script to process the raw data and recreate all the figures is called <strong>dem_rep.py</strong>. </p>
Bark-scratching of storm-felled trees preserves biodiversity at lower economic costs compared to debarking
<p>The abundance data presented here focus on saproxylic beetles collected over two years on trees in a mountain forest ecosystem (analysed and discussed in Thorn et al. <a href="https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ecm.1343#ecm1343-bib-0043">2016</a>). The design consists of 12 plots each composed of three experimentally felled trees, resulting in a total of 36 experimental felled trees. In each plot, the bark of one tree was completely removed, the bark of a second tree was only partially removed (i.e., bark-scratched), and the third tree served as a control. The design is thus composed of 12 replications of three different treatments (i.e., control, bark-scratched, and debarked). A total of 120 species of saproxylic beetles were trapped with emergence traps on felled trees (Thorn et al. <a href="https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1002/ecm.1343#ecm1343-bib-0043">2016</a>).</p>
The Economic Integration of Wind Energy: An Analysis of the ECOWAS Subregion
<p>This study evaluates the economic integration of wind energy in the <br>Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) between 2010 <br>and 2020. Wind energy is the energy source that can cost-effectively <br>meet the energy needs of the sub-regions due to the theoretical and <br>economic potential of the sub-regions. For this reason, the study uses data <br>from the World Bank Development Indicators using Panel Vector Auto <br>Regression to analyze the determinants underpinning the economic <br>integration of wind energy. The Panel VAR estimate shows a significant <br>direct link between fossil fuel consumption and private sector investment <br>in renewable energy. This implies that the sub-region consumes a <br>significant amount of fossil fuels, hence the need to increase clean energy <br>investments to move the sub-region towards a low-carbon future. <br>Another significant lag variable is the power consumption per capita in <br>the subregion. Per capita electricity consumption in the sub-region is <br>woefully insufficient. Therefore, wind energy can ensure access via the <br>development of small community wind farms where the national power <br>grid cannot be extended to. When assessing the economic justification of <br>wind integration, the LCOE for wind power is 2.98 cents per kilowatt for <br>the lowest cost scenario compared to nuclear power’s 2.26 per kilowatt <br>hour. The FEVD shows that 13.4% of renewable energy investments are <br>self-explanatory within the first and last periods. The FEVD for wind <br>energy illustrates the short-term variance of 16.4 percent and increases to <br>51.1 percent in the following years after system shocks. This implies that <br>the expansion of wind capacity in the sub-region is expected to increase <br>in the long-term. This serves as a blueprint for integrating wind energy <br>into the sub-region.</p>

Ripple resonance amplifies economic welfare loss from weather extremes
<p>Using the loss-propagation model Acclimate (doi: 10.5281/zenodo.853345) we computed the regional and sectoral economic repercussion due to single disasters categories (heat stress, floods and tropical cyclones) as well as their consecutive disaster scenarios. The name component "en-20xx" refers to the economic network baseline. Our main analysis was based on the economic network of 2015.</p> <p>These data sets contain the annual aggregated economic quantities: production, production value, production (zero), direct loss, direct loss value, total loss, total value loss, consumption (zero), consumption value, consumption, GDP, GDP value, GDP (zero). Consumption and GDP (and corresponding variables) are regional quantities and therefore have only one non-NaN sectoral dimension (dimension zero). Quantities with a “(zero)” correspond to the annual baseline of the quantity (leap years taken into account).</p> <p>The quantities of the disaster scenarios are divided as follows:<br> Heat stress: hs_observable<br> Floods: fl_observable<br> Tropical cyclones: tc_observable<br> Consecutive disasters: cp_observable</p> <p>These variables have - next to “year”, “region”, “sector”, and “quantities” - the dimensions of the corresponding representative concentration pathway, global climate model, tropical cyclone season realization and hydrological model.</p>

Lianas have a faster resource acquisition strategy than trees: belowground evidence from root traits, phylogeny, and the root economics space
<p>1. The competitive advantage of lianas over trees has been widely documented in studies of their leaf functional traits across diverse habitats; however, the relative contribution of root functional traits to the competitive superiority of lianas over trees has not yet been evaluated. The aim of this study was to explore the root functional traits, phylogenetic structure of these traits, and root trait dimensions of lianas to clarify why lianas can outperform trees.</p> <p>2. We sampled 69 liana species from tropical and temperate forests in China and measured nine key functional traits of first-order roots of each species, including morphological, architectural, anatomical, and chemical traits, as well as the percentage of mycorrhizal colonization. Data on these traits were then compared with similar data of 127 tree species from the same biome obtained from the Global Root Traits (GRooT) database and our previous studies.</p> <p>3. Liana roots had lower construction costs and could acquire resources more rapidly compared with tree roots. Significant differences were observed in most tree root traits between tropical and temperate sites. However, no significant differences were observed in any of the liana root traits between tropical and temperate sites, apart from the root branching ratio.</p> <p>4. Lianas showed much weaker phylogenetic conservatism in their root traits than trees when species were pooled across sites. Phylogenetic constraint was lower for nearly all root traits of both temperate lianas and trees compared with those of tropical lianas and trees.</p> <p>5. The root economics space of lianas and trees had two orthogonal dimensions with "conservation" and "collaboration" axes. However, lianas occupied the trait space with higher root nitrogen concentration and greater specific root length, showing "fast" resource acquisition strategy, while trees placed opposite space and exhibited relatively "slow" strategy.</p> <p>6. Synthesis. The ability of lianas to outcompete trees in harsh environments might be explained by their faster resource acquisition strategy and the lower phylogenetic constraint in root traits. Generally, lianas might play an increasingly important role in the structure and function of forest ecosystems in the future with ongoing habitat fragmentation and climate change.</p>

Coordination of economics spectra in leaf, stem and root within the genus Artemisia along a large environmental gradient in China
<p>Aim: The plant economics spectrum provides a fundamental framework for understanding functional trait variation along environmental gradients. However, it is unclear whether there is a general whole-plant economics spectrum across organs at the finer taxonomic scale (e.g. within genera), and if there is, which factors affect the trait coordination of the different organs. Here, we examined whether resource economics spectra of different organs (i.e. leaf, stem and root) can be integrated at the whole-plant level within a single genus, and how environment, intraspecific variation and taxonomic scale shape the whole-plant spectrum.</p> <p>Location: China.</p> <p>Time period: 2018.</p> <p>Major taxa studied: Artemisia.</p> <p>Results: Pairwise trait correlations and the trade-off patterns along the resource economic axis were consistent at both organ and whole-plant levels. Environmental gradients did not strongly affect the correlations among leaf, stem and root economics spectra, i.e. the intraspecific variation weakened but did not mask this coordination. Taxonomic scale did not affect the degree of trait coordination as the genus-wide whole-plant economics spectrum also emerged within each of the three subgenera.</p> <p>Main conclusions: Our results support the hypothesis that the coordination of economics spectra across organs forms a whole-plant economics spectrum representing "fast-slow" resource management strategy, which is robust to recent evolution (genotypic variation, even for species within a single genus) and present-day environmental variation. Further studies should elucidate in which circumstances or phylogenetic branches the coordinated pattern found for Artemisia is representative of other widely distributed genera.</p>
Incorporating pressure-volume traits into the leaf economics spectrum
<p>Dataset associated with the article '<em>Incorporating pressure-volume traits into the leaf economics spectrum</em>' (Nadal et al. 2023 [<em>Eco Lett</em>, accepted]). We provide theoretical and empirical evidence for the coordination of the turgor loss point and associated pressure-volume traits (osmotic potential at full turgor, leaf capacitance, leaf elasticity, leaf saturated water content, modulus of elasticity) with photosynthesis (light-saturated net CO<sub>2</sub> assimilation) and leaf mass per area (LMA) and its two components (leaf thickness and density). The complete dataset comprehends a total of 45 data entries from 37 species, including ferns and angiosperms (woody and herbaceous species), most of them measured on the campus of University of the Balearic Islands; this complements the data presented in Nadal et al. (2018 [<em>Eco Lett</em> 21 (9), 1372-1379]). For the 20 species from Nadal et al. (2018), we also provide data regarding their N and C content, leaf anatomy (from optical and TEM images) and cell wall composition.</p>
New1_Korespondensi Propagation of Economic Shocks from the United States, China, The European Union, and Japan to Selected Asian Economies: Does the Global Value Chain Matters?
<p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p> <p>A panel vector autoregression (VAR) model is employed to estimate whether growth shocks from the United States (US), China, Japan, and the European Union (EU) can be transferred to selected Asian countries. We examine 1) the effect of shocks through five channels: international trade, monetary policy, finance, global uncertainty, and oil prices; 2) whether a country’s deeper integration with the global value chain (GVC) enhances or decreases the effect of growth shocks from major economies more intensively than trade openness. We found evidence of the shock transfer from major economies to Asia through the five channels. The impact differs across countries depending on their participation in GVC; for example, the impact is high in Indonesia and low in South Korea. Moreover, Asian countries are more exposed to trade shocks through China’s trade channel than other major economies. Zooming in on the channels’ impacts, global uncertainty affects countries’ growth (e.g., Indonesia) more significantly than other channels (i.e., GVC); and Asian countries respond positively to oil prices in the short run but negatively in the long run.</p> <p><strong>Keywords</strong>: Foreign spillovers, global uncertainty, oil prices, global value chain, monetary policy, trade openness, globalization</p> <p><strong>JEL Classification: </strong>F44, F62, O53, E43</p>
