Effect of the Increased Nursing Attrition Rate on Nursing Administration Process during the Covid-19 Pandemic in a Selected Tertiary Care Hospital
<p><span>During<span> </span>the<span> </span>COVID-19<span> </span>outbreak,<span> </span>healthcare<span> </span>professionals,<span> </span>particularly<span> </span>nurses,<span> </span>were<span> </span>more<span> </span>prone to<span> </span>diseases.<span> </span>Globally<span> </span>attrition<span> </span>rate<span> </span>was<span> </span>high<span> </span>among<span> </span>nurses<span> </span>and<span> </span>during<span> </span>the<span> </span>pandemic,<span> </span>it<span> </span>increased because<span> </span>of<span> </span>various<span> </span>reasons<span> </span>such<span> </span>as<span> </span>the<span> </span>risk<span> </span>of<span> </span>infection,<span> </span>occupational<span> </span>and<span> </span>psychological<span> </span>stress, causing risk to their loved ones. This led to a chaotic situation where nurse managers were forced to implement specific strategic plans to deal with increased nurse attrition. This study aims<span> </span>to<span> </span>describe<span> </span>the<span> </span>impact<span> </span>of<span> </span>nurse<span> </span>attrition<span> </span>rate<span> </span>on<span> </span>nursing<span> </span>administration<span> </span>during<span> </span>COVID-19 at a selected tertiary care hospital. The research approach adopted in this study is descriptive cross-sectional. A total sample of 66 nurses involved in nursing administration. The data is collected through a structured questionnaire and the nurse attrition data during the COVID-19 pandemic period was collected from the interview method during the survey. Statistical tests used were frequency, percentage, mean, Standard Deviation (S.D). The study showed that there is a moderate impact of increased nurse attrition on nursing administration during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study led to the identification of gaps that need to be addressed in a similar crisis.</span></p>
PEPT data for Understanding the effect of fluid viscosity in Vertical Stirred Mills using the Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT) approach
<p>The raw PEPT data collected for the paper "Understanding the effect of fluid viscosity in vertical stirred mills using the positron emission particle tracking (PEPT) approach." The paper is the first to use the PEPT technique to investigate the effect of fluid viscosity on the efficiency of the grinding process.</p> <p>This data can be post-processed using the PEPT-ML library and used in isolation or it can be used to calibrate an equivalent simulation. The simulation template is available on GitHub and the link to this is under the Software tab. Each file is labelled by the fluid viscosity and attritor speed used in the experiment, The data for a single run is often split across files but can be combined by the PEPT-ML library.</p>

<p><span>This deposit contains three .xlsx files.</span></p> <p><span>The file „01_prices_Sušice_1725-1824“ contains two sheets with mean annual prices (in Lower Austrian <em>měřice</em>) of four cereals (wheat, rye, barley and oats) in Sušice for the period 1725–1824. On the first sheet are compiled series, on the second detrended series (using high-pass filter).</span></p> <p><span>The file „02_monthly_prices_1725-1738“ contains four sheets with mean monthly prices (in Lower Austrian <em>měřice</em>) of four cereals in Sušice from July 1725 to July 1738 (July 1737 is missing). Sheets represent individual cereals – wheat, rye, barley and oats.</span></p> <p><span>The file „03_climate_char_1725-1824“ contains two sheets with mean seasonal (DJF, MAM and JJA) temperature, precipitation and scPDSI expressed in deviations relative to the 1961–1990 reference period. Higher temperatures exacerbate effects of antibiotics on methanogenesis in freshwater sediment
<p>This dataset features data and code of the associated publication in Communications Earth & Environment (<a href="https://doi.org/10.1038/s43247-024-01828-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://doi.org/10.1038/s43247-024-01828-3</a>). To reproducibly run the code you should download the entire <code>.zip</code> archive and open the <code>*.RProj</code> file ideally with the same R version (<code>4.3.1</code>). To achieve maximum reproducibility of the code you should run <code>renv::restore()</code> to restore the packages recorded in <code>renv.lock</code>. Scripts within the folder <code>code</code> are named in the order in which they should be run. Note that running the Bayesian models requires a C++ toolchain. A web search of "RStan Getting Started" will yield up to date information about how to install this on your device. The models ran for the publication are provided as <code>.rds</code> file in case you don't want to run it yourself. Some figures required post-export editing in the paid program "Affinity photo". The edited and unedited versions are included in this repository to allow for comparisons. Also the <code>.afphoto</code> files are included for users that own a license.</p>
Size-dependent effects of oxo-degradable plastic contamination on soil quality and Zea mays L. performance
<p><span>Agricultural plastic mulch films represent a significant source of microplastic contamination in soils, raising concerns about soil health and food security. Oxo-degradable plastics (ODPs) have emerged as a potentially more eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastic mulch films, however, uncertainty remains around the degradation rate of ODPs in soil and their impacts on soil quality and crop health. Using a controlled mesocosm experiment, we evaluated the behaviour and impact of different concentrations of oxo-biodegradable macro- (>10 mm) or micro-plastic (<5 mm) (0.01, 0.1, 1, and 10% w/w) on the performance of <em>Zea mays</em> L. grown in an agricultural soil over a 6-week period. Contrary to expectation, no major fragmentation or degradation of ODP was observed during the experimental period, however, FTIR revealed the formation of carbonyl groups indicative of oxidation. Overall, our results showed that typical levels of plastic contamination (0.01% w/w) had very little effect on soil physicochemical properties, microbial activity or plant performance. However, higher levels of plastic contamination resulted in significant changes in soil pH, EC, NO<sub>3</sub><sup>-</sup>, bulk density, and soil moisture. At extreme plastic loading rates (10% Can you write w/w), both micro- and macro-sized ODPs caused significant reductions in plant height and foliar chlorophyll content, with microplastic treatments showing consistently greater effects than macroplastics. None of the plastic loading rates had an effect on shoot and root biomass or soil NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup> and P concentrations or microbial community structure in comparison to the unamended controls. Our findings indicate that at realistic field concentrations, ODPs are likely to have little effect on agroecosystem functioning but that they may persist in soil for long periods of time leading to their progressive accumulation in agricultural soils if used over repeated cropping cycles. Further research is needed to evaluate the longer-term impacts of ODPs on soil quality and crop health under field conditions.</span></p>

The temperate coral <em>Cladocora caespitosa</em> is the only zooxanthellate coral with reef-building capacity in the Mediterranean Sea, a climate change hotspot with warming rates triple the global average. Over the past two decades, <em>C. caespitosa</em> populations have suffered severe mortality events associated with marine heatwaves (MHWs). However, with monitoring efforts beginning, at best, in the 2000s, the occurrence of MHWs before to that period, as well as the sub-lethal effects of these events remain poorly understood. Here we use sclerochronology to reconstruct the histories of past stress events and long-term sub-lethal effects on <em>C. caespitosa</em> in three locations within the NW Mediterranean Sea, each with different environmental conditions. Skeletal extension, density and calcification rates were compared to the <em>in situ</em> seawater temperature of each site to assess their relationship. Additionally, we assessed the occurrence of skeletal growth anomalies to reconstruct stress events between 1991 and 2021, a period that encompasses the onset and evolution of warming-related mass mortality events in the NW Mediterranean Sea. Our results reveal a positive association between calcification and temperature, following a latitudinal temperature gradient. However, the evolution of the likelihood distribution of growth rates in the warmest site (Columbretes Islands) since the 1990s indicates a decrease in linear extension and calcification rates during the most recent years. With the increase in the frequency of MHWs and growth anomalies during the last decade, this decline suggests a recurrence in physiological stress events. Qualitative Data on Effects of Early and Prolonged Parent-Child Separation: Understanding Mental Health of Separated-Reunited Chinese American Children
<div> <div> <div> <div>Early and prolonged parent-child separation due to parental migration or immigration may result in attachment disruption that can threaten the long-term mental health and functioning of affected children, and these risks can persist following reunification and through adulthood. Although sending infants back to the home country for rearing is often practiced among <em>Chinese</em> immigrants, especially low-income families, research has been sparse in understanding the long-term impact of early and prolonged parent-child separation and reunification on disparities in mental health and functioning among separated-reunited children and the mechanism through which such relationships may operate.</div> <div>Funded by National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMH), we collected semi-structured interview data from 24 parent-child dyads who have experienced separation. Model projection of the effect of climate change and fishing pressure on key species of the South East Asia Seas
<p>The dataset contain Projection from the Size-Spectra Bioclimatic Envelop Model (SS-DBEM), this work was part of the GCRF Blue communities Programme (www.blue-communities.org). The model provides distribution and abundance and/or biomass of fish and other species of commercial interest under climate change and fishing pressure. The model outputs are yearly abundance/biomass on a 0.5-by-0.5 degree grid, covering the period from 2000 to 2098. Further description of the model and relevant references are listed in the following file: Guide-fish-model-output-use.docx</p> <p>The model was run under two climate scenario: RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, with different combinations of fishing pressure expressed as the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) for the following values: 0 (no fishing, climate change alone will cause variation in fish biomass), 1 (sustainable fishing), 2, 3 (overfishing), and, 4 (overfishing with destructive practice). The intent is not to reproduce current fishing level but to provide a range of scenarios with which the future of fisheries can be explored.</p> <p>We projected fish species that were identified as key in the South East Asia seas region by our regional partners.The full list is provided in document: Fish-list-modelguide.xlsx</p> <p>There are 4 zip files that contain the model outputs of in either abundance (number of fish) or biomass grams of fish) for the two climate scenario. Embeddings from protein language models predict conservation and variant effects
<p>For this work, we used protein language model representations (embeddings) to predict sequence conservation without multiple sequence alignments (MSAs). Embeddings alone predicted residue conservation almost as accurately from single sequences as ConSeq using MSAs (two-state Matthew Correlation Coefficient – MCC - for ProtT5 embeddings of 0.596±0.006 vs. 0.608±0.006 for ConSeq).</p> <p><strong><em>ConSurf10k</em>- Dataset for the development of ProtT5cons:</strong> The method (ProtT5cons) predicting residue conservation used <em>ConSurf-DB </em>(Ben Chorin et al. 2020). This resource provided sequences and conservation for 89,673 proteins. For all, experimental high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) structures were available in the Protein Data Bank (PDB) (Berman et al. 2000). As standard-of-truth for the conservation prediction, we used the values from ConSurf-DB generated using HMMER (Mistry et al. 2013), CD-HIT (Fu et al. 2012), and MAFFT-LINSi (Katoh and Standley 2013) to align proteins in the PDB (Burley et al. 2019). For proteins from families with over 50 proteins in the resulting MSA, an evolutionary rate at each residue position is computed and used along with the MSA to reconstruct a phylogenetic tree. The ConSurf-DB conservation scores ranged from 1 (most variable) to 9 (most conserved). The PISCES server (Wang and Dunbrack 2003) was used to redundancy reduce the data set such that no pair of proteins had more than 25% pairwise sequence identity. We removed proteins with resolutions >2.5Å, those shorter than 40 residues, and those longer than 10,000 residues.
