Dataset supporting publication: "Development and Validation of Analytical Solutions for Earth Basket (Spiral) Heat Exchangers"

Dataset supporting publication: “Development and Validation of Analytical Solutions for Earth Basket (Spiral) Heat Exchangers” (publication available for download:GEOFIT Zenodo).

This paper presents an analytical solution and its validation for earth basket (vertical spiral) ground heat
exchangers. The model, based on the well known Finite Line Source Equation, accounts for the heat exchanger pipe diameter and seasonally varying near surface temperature. For computational efficiency the standard approach of using G-functions has been implemented as well. The analytical model is validated based on laboratory experiments and extensive CFD analysis.

Nimble code and dataset for: Estimating true density in large, alpine herbivores using Google Earth imagery

This nimble code will estimate elk density from the count data (DO_data_list.RData) and covariates (DO_constants_list.RData). Data and covariates include: a 'y' matrix of double observer counts with 3315 rows (1 for each 250 m square plot) and 3 columns for the observer 1's exclusive counts, observer 2's exclusive counts, and the count of elk detected by both observers. The double-observe protocol was only employed in 372 random cells. 'n' is a vector of total counts – the total number of uniquely detected elk in each plot. 'obs1tot' is a vector of the total count of elk by just observer 1, who counted elk in all 3315 cells. There are two dummy indicator variables that are all 1's ('obs1constraint' and 'obs2constraint') to constrain unobserved but estimated counts to sum to expected totals. For example, observer 1 was the only observer in 2943 plots. This single count would be the equivalent of the sum of the exclusive observer 1 counts and the joint observer 1 and 2 counts in a double-observer protocol. Additionally, the sum of observer 2s exclusive counts and observer 1's total counts must equal the total count of unique individuals in a cell. The covariates 'meadow' and 'deadfall' are the additive log-ratio transformations of the proportion of open meadow and burned forest, respectively, in each 250-m plot. The 'nonforest' covariate is the number of hectares in each plot that was not conifer forest. 'M' is the total number of plots. 'firstsearch' is an indicator variable, indicating which plots were part of the first search area in the alpine >2750 m above sea level. 'domethod' is an indicator variable, indicating which plots were searched using the double-observer protocol.

Simulations for manuscript Unravelling the forcing and feedbacks contributing to Pliocene Arctic warming in EC-Earth simulations

Nine PlioMIP2 experiments were conducted to investigate the mid-Pliocene Arctic climate. These experiments considered three CO2 levels (280, 400 and 560 ppm), modern or Pliocene ice sheet conditions in Greenland and Antarctica and either prescribed or dynamic vegetation. Simulations were performed by the EC-Earth3-LR Veg climate model with a horizontal resolution of ~1.125°. The dataset contains selected output data from the simulations. Simulations were run for 1000 years. The last 200 years were used for analysis after the model reached an equilibrium as measured by global surface air temperature trend less than 0.05 K per century.

The dataset contains Earth system model results from EC-Earth3 presented in the study by Power et al. (2023).

Data for: Improvements in the Land and Crop Modeling over Flooded Rice Fields by Incorporating the Shallow Paddy Water (Submitting to the Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems)

We incorporated the shallow paddy surface water layer into the Noah-MP land surface model to improve its performance of surface heat fluxes over flooded rice paddies. Field measurements from two crop sites, i.e., SAITO (early rice) and SAGA (late rice), were used to initialize and evaluate the modified Noah-MP model (Maruyama, 2021). Additionally, we investigated the roles of some key parameters in the land and crop modeling.

Note that, all numerical experiments in this study were conducted at the field scale using the offline version of Noah-MP (Niu et al., 2011) running within the High-Resolution Land Data Assimilation System (HRLDAS v3.9; Chen et al., 2007). Please refer to the official HRLDAS/Noah-MP unified Github repository (https://github.com/NCAR/hrldas-release) for the original model codes.

The related model code modifications and model outputs were included in this dataset. Surface observations for the nearest AMeDAS or meteorological observatory stations were obtained from the Japan Meteorological Agency website (https://www.jma.go.jp/jma/indexe.html), and were also provided in this dataset.

References

Chen, F., Manning, K.
