Dataset of "Affordable metod for synthesis of composite nanoobjects from recycled materials by hot plasma arc from basic plasma cutter "

<p>Metal remnants from battery waste can be utilized in some advanced composite materials together with other materials like cerium dioxide nanoparticles which repeatedly show interesting application potential in the field of decomposition of environmental pollutants. It is important to avoid uncontrolled leakage of the nanoparticles into the environment. Therefore immobilization in composite is important. In this contribution, ceria nanoparticles were aggregated and immobilized with the addition of nanoparticles, metal sheets, and the usage of a plasma beam. The obtained material was characterized in detail using optical microscopy, XRD, SEM, and EDS. The composite was also compared to the non-treated ceria nanoparticles. The absorption of pollutant samples was performed in aqueous solutions of Eriochrome Black T. The results show promising potential considering the morphology change and aggregate formation, together with fast reaction times.&nbsp;</p>

Satellite Constellation Internet Affordability and Need

<p>Large satellite constellations in low-Earth orbit seek to be the infrastructure for global broadband Internet and other telecommunication needs. We briefly review the impacts of satellite constellations on astronomy and show that the Internet service offered by these satellites will primarily target populations where it is unaffordable, not needed, or both. The harm done by tens to hundreds of thousands of low-Earth orbit satellites to astronomy, stargazers worldwide, and the environment is not acceptable.</p> <p>This dataset shows that there is a small population that both needs and can afford satellite Internet service. The remainder either does not need or cannot afford it. For each country, we plot the estimated cost of satellite constellation Internet service as a percentage of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita against percentage of individuals currently with Internet access.&nbsp;Affordable access is classed as &lt;10% of GDP per capita; need is classed as &lt;75% of the population currently having Internet access. Assessing Grid Affordability for Universal Electricity Access in Sub-Saharan Africa

<p>This repository contains all the necessary original data for the publication&nbsp;<em>"Assessing Grid Affordability for Universal Electricity Access in Sub-Saharan Africa."</em> It includes the original documents detailing the tariff structures of 48 SSA countries, as well as population data, the Gini index, and gross national income per capita, which are used to simulate income distribution. Additionally, it provides calculator tools for estimating electricity bills based on the Multi-Tier Framework and assessing grid electricity affordability by comparing simulated income with electricity costs.</p> <p>The related code and result datasets supporting this publication are available through the GitHub public repository: <a href="https://rb.gy/f68tx5" target="_new" rel="noopener">https://rb.gy/f68tx5</a>.</p>

Affordances of Scan Processing Methods

<p>An INTRODUCTION to SCAN PROCESSING<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp;This survey inquires about the affordances of historic and contemporary implementations of scan processing technology. Scan processing, also known as raster manipulation, refers to the separation and independent manipulation of the horizontal, vertical, and brightness components of a video image. It is often associated with the Rutt/Etra Video Synthesizer, which was designed in the early 1970s and used extensively by Steina and Woody Vasulka, Gary Hill, and other pioneering video artists.<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp;Scan processing differs from other methods of video synthesis or processing in that it does not generate a normal video signal which can be displayed on a standard analog or digital video monitor. Rather, it outputs three independent signals (horizontal sweep, vertical sweep, and brightness) which must be rendered on an XY display of some kind (oscilloscope, vector monitor, ILDA laser, etc). The look of the scan processing effect can also be emulated by digital video software. Scan processing relies on an input image or video, and thus does not include other XY image techniques, such as Lissajous figures or vector line art and animations. &nbsp; &nbsp;<br><br>THREE METHODS of SCAN PROCESSING<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp;The three methods of scan processing covered in this survey utilize the following technologies:<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp;1) Analog scan processing hardware such as the Rutt/Etra Video Synthesizer, the Dave Jones Raster Manipulator, or the LZX Cadet series modules with output displayed on an analog Cathode Ray Tube monitor<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp;2) Digital software designed to produce a set of analog horizontal, vertical, and brightness signals to be displayed on an analog Cathode Ray Tube monitor, such as the REWereHere or Vector Synthesis scan processing patches for Max and Pure Data.<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp;3) Software which emulates the Rutt/Etra, scan processing, or Z-displacement effect entirely in the digital video domain, such as the v002 Rutt/Etra Quartz Composer plugin, the Rutt/Etra-Izer, or a number of filters and plugins for other softwares.</p> <p>ABOUT AFFORDANCES<br><br>&nbsp; &nbsp;"Affordances" is a term from interface design which describes the various possibilities an object suggests or offers to its users. These possibilities may or may not be part of the object's intended design, and may also be specific to certain users. Data from: Affordable de novo generation of fish mitogenomes using amplification-free enrichment of mitochondrial DNA and deep sequencing of long fragments

<p>Biomonitoring surveys from environmental DNA make use of metabarcoding tools to describe the community composition. These studies match their sequencing results against public genomic databases to identify the species. However, mitochondrial genomic reference data are yet incomplete, only a few genes may be available, or the suitability of existing sequence data is suboptimal for species-level resolution. Here we present a dedicated and cost-effective workflow with no DNA amplification for generating complete fish mitogenomes for the purpose of strengthening fish mitochondrial databases. Two different long-fragment sequencing approaches using Oxford Nanopore sequencing coupled with mitochondrial DNA enrichment were used. One where the enrichment is achieved by preferential isolation of mitochondria followed by DNA extraction and nuclear DNA depletion ('mitoenrichment').  A second enrichment approach takes advantage of the CRISPR-Cas9 targeted scission on previously dephosphorylated DNA ('targeted mitosequencing'). The sequencing results varied between tissue, species, and integrity of the DNA. The mitoenrichment method yielded 0.17-12.33 % of sequences on target and a mean coverage ranging from 74.9 to 805-fold. The targeted mitosequencing experiment from native genomic DNA yielded 1.83-55 % of sequences on target and a 38 to 2123-fold mean coverage. This produced complete the mitogenome of species with homopolymeric regions, tandem repeats, and gene rearrangements. We demonstrate that deep sequencing of long fragments of native fish DNA is possible and can be achieved with low computational resources in a cost-effective manner, opening the discovery of mitogenomes of non-model or understudied fish taxa to a broad range of laboratories worldwide.</p>
