The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: Aboveground biomass surveys of benthos on cross bank, a site of experimental fetilization via bird defecation since 1983. Dataset includes species specific biomass at five sites, each with both control and experimental treatments We are investigating how variability in regional climate, freshwater inputs, disturbance, and perturbations affect the coastal Everglades ecosystem. Our long term research program focuses on testing the following central idea and hypotheses: Regional processes mediated by water flow control population and ecosystem level dynamics at any location within the coastal Everglades landscape. This phenomenon is best exemplified in the dynamics of an estuarine oligohaline zone where fresh water draining phosphorus-limited Everglades marshes mixes with water from the more nitrogen-limited coastal ocean. Hypothesis 1: In nutrient-poor coastal systems, long-term changes in the quantity or quality of organic matter inputs will exert strong and direct controls on estuarine productivity, because inorganic nutrients are at such low levels. Hypothesis 2: Interannual and long-term changes in freshwater flow controls the magnitude of nutrients and organic matter inputs to the estuarine zone, while ecological processes in the freshwater marsh and coastal ocean control the quality and characteristics of those inputs. Hypothesis 3: Long-term changes in freshwater flow (primarily manifest through management and Everglades restoration) will interact with long-term changes in the climatic and disturbance (sea level rise, hurricanes, fires) regimes to modify ecological pattern

Testing of a benthic incubation chamber design in a Virginia coastal bay, 2023, 2024, and 2025

Benthic incubation chambers enclose a known volume of water overlying a known area to measure water chemistry changes and are typically used to quantify the metabolic activity of benthic organisms or communities. Here, we report data from a series of tests validating a new benthic incubation chamber design. This data includes dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations and temperatures recorded during three test deployments in South Bay, Virginia during August 2023 (T1_chamber_do_test_data), as well as data from light transmission tests. Light transmission tests included per wavelength transmission of PAR and ultraviolet radiation through the chamber wall (T2_wall_transmission_test) and lid (T3_lid_transmission_test), an in-situ PAR transmission comparison for two different sensor arrangements (side-mounted versus top-mounted) during July 2025 (T4_sensor_shading_test), and an in-situ comparison of natural ambient PAR versus PAR translated through a deployed chamber during March 2024 (T5_in_situ_light_test).

Dataset of "Fast carbon dioxide–epoxide cycloaddition catalyzed by metal and metal-free ionic liquids for designing non-isocyanate polyurethanes"

<p>The recycling of industrially produced greenhouse gases, such as CO2, into high-value-added chemicals is one of the most relevant strategies for reaching climate targets. A two-step strategy for designing non-isocyanate polyurethanes (NIPUs) from renewable carbon dioxide (CO2) using environmentally friendly conditions and catalysts is investigated. The first reaction step efficiently converts a mono-epoxidized monomer (phenyl glycidyl ether) into cyclic carbonates under mild reaction conditions and supercritical CO2, using imidazolium ionic liquids (ILs) as catalysts into cyclic carbonates. The DFT calculations suggested a comprehensive mechanistic pathway for the IL-catalyzed CO2-epoxy reaction showing a rate-determining step of the initial epoxide ring opening and the direct participation of IL-anions.</p>

Instructional Design Models Score Ranking

<p>Here we present selected 17 instructional design models (IDMs) from our previous study (Cajnko, M. M., Pavlin, M., Likozar, B., Vasilakis, C., Tsovou, S., Chaundry, S. R., Kapal, D., van Leeuwen, M., Miloshevski, V., Toman, Y., Deniz, B., Şensoy Mercan, N., Pavitola, L., Memmedova, S., Verdiyeva, L., Sarsar, F., &amp; Andi&ccedil; &Ccedil;akır, &Ouml;. (2024). Instructional Design Models [Data set]. Zenodo. https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.10900874) that were quantitatively evaluated by 20 experts from different countries (Azerbaijan, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, and T&uuml;rkiye) according to their suitability for the use in the engineering education. Evaluation was performed based on 12 statements, where each statement was quantitatively evaluated with values from 0 to 3 (0: Absolutely not suitable; 1: Partially suitable structure; 2: Moderately suitable structure; 3: Suitable structure), resulting in the total score of 36 for each model. The 12 statements were:&nbsp;</p> <p>1. Suitability for engineering education;<br>2. Suitability for virtual laboratories studies;<br>3. Suitability for technology integration;<br>4. Suitability for project-based work;<br>5. Suitability for active learning strategies;<br>6. Suitability for students with any disability;<br>7. Suitability for interdisciplinary design;<br>8. Suitability for cross-cultural practices;<br>9. Suitability for student feedback;<br>10. Suitability for instructor feedback;<br>11. Suitability for assessment and evaluation;<br>12. Suitability for reusability.</p> <p>The preliminary score of each IDM was obtained by averaging the scores of 20 experts and the standard deviation was calculated. Next, the scores of each IDM that lied outside of the average score &plusmn; 2*standard deviation was eliminated and the new average value was calculated. This process was repeated until all the remaining scores lied withing average score &plusmn; 2*standard deviation. Trajectory Design for Proximity Operations: The Relative Orbital Elements' Perspective

<p>The data sets provided here can be used to recreate the plots of the paper &ldquo;Trajectory Design for Proximity Operations: The Relative Orbital Elements&rsquo; Perspective&rdquo; available at this <a href="https://arc.aiaa.org/doi/full/10.2514/1.G006175">link</a>.</p> <p>That paper presents how to rigorously transform back-and-forth the equations of the relative motion in the close-range regime between Hill-Clohessy-Wiltshire and Relative Orbital Elements formulations. As straightforward application, it is presented a methodology to generate piecewise constant acceleration profiles from an impulsive guidance solution, setting up a control grid that minimizes the difference between impulsive and equivalent delta-v burns corresponding to the acceleration profile.</p> <p>Applications are implementation of autonomous guidance and control policies for close-range satellite proximity operations.</p>

The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: These data describe the abundance and size of fish species as part of SBCLTER's kelp forest monitoring program to track long-term patterns in species abundance and diversity. This study began in 2000 in the Santa Barbara Channel, California, USA. The abundance and size of all taxa of resident kelp forest fish encountered along permanent transects are recorded at nine reef sites located along the mainland coast of the Santa Barbara Channel and at two sites on the north side of Santa Cruz Island. These sites reflect several oceanographic regimes in the channel and vary in distance from sources of terrestrial runoff. In these surveys, fish were counted in either a 40x2m benthic quadrat, or in the water parcel 0-2m off the bottom over the same area. The two tables in this data package include: 1) The annual benthic fish community survey which was conducted on 11 reefs once a year around late July or early August; and 2) The monthly fish survey which was conducted once a month at a subset of the sites (3 of the annual sites) The time period of data collection for the annual benthic fish community survey varied among the 11 kelp forest sites. Sampling at BULL, CARP, and NAPL began in 2000, sampling at the other 6 mainland sites (AHND, AQUE, IVEE, GOLB, ABUR, MOHK) began in 2001 (transects 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 at IVEE were added in 2011). Data collection at the two Santa Cruz Island sites (SCTW and SCDI) began in 2004. The monthly fish survey at ABUR (Transect 1, 2, and 3), AQUE (Transect1), and MOHK (Transect 1) in 2002. The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: Zooplankton density,were taken with a 30 cm diameter plankton net with 156 um mesh plankton netting, for all samples collected from Toolik Lake and lakes near the Toolik Field Station, Arctic LTER from 2003 - 2017. The Arctic is one of the most rapidly warming regions on Earth. Responses to this warming involve acceleration of processes common to other ecosystems around the world (e.g., shifts in plant community composition) and changes to processes unique to the Arctic (e.g., carbon loss from permafrost thaw). The objectives of the Arctic Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) Project for 2017-2023 are to use the concepts of biogeochemical and community “openness” and “connectivity” to understand the responses of arctic terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems to climate change and disturbance. These objectives will be met through continued long-term monitoring of changes in undisturbed terrestrial, stream, and lake ecosystems in the vicinity of Toolik Lake, Alaska, observations of the recovery of these ecosystems from natural and imposed disturbances, maintenance of existing long-term experiments, and initiation of new experimental manipulations. Based on these data, carbon and nutrient budgets and indices of species composition will be compiled for each component of the arctic landscape to compare the biogeochemistry and community dynamics of each ecosystem in relation to their responses to climate change and disturbance and to the propagation of those responses across the landscape.

This study began in 2005 and the dataset is updated annually. The abundances of A. planci observed on a five by fifty meter transect are recorded by a diver using SCUBA. Surveys are conducted between 0900 and 1600 hours (Moorea time) during late July or early August each year. Four replicate transects are surveyed in each of three habitats (forereef, backreef and fringing reef) at six locations, two on each of Moorea's three sides, on the forereef, six locations on the backreef (two on each of Moorea's three sides for a total of 72 individual transects. Transects are permanently marked using a series of small, stainless steel posts affixed to the reef. Taxon-specific relationships between size and mass were applied to field measurements of species abundance to estimate biomass density of each species. The five reefs (Arroyo Quemado 34°28.048’N, 120°07.031’W; Carpinteria 34°23.474’N, 119°32.510’W; Isla Vista 34°23.275’N, 119°32.792’W; Mohawk 34°23.649’N, 119°43.762’W; and Naples 34° 25.342’N, 119° 57.102’W) ranged in depth from 5.8 m to 8.9 m (MLLW) and were chosen to represent a range of physical and biological characteristics known to influence subtidal macroalgal assemblages in the region. The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: This study is a survey of the density of tall shrubs, saplings, and seedlings at Bonanza Creek LTER Control Plots. Densities have been measured at some sites since 1975 while others began in the mid 1980's. In 2006 methodology was changed in attempt to better capture the spatial variability of shrub and tree species within the research sites. The current method, presented here, uses a 2 meter wide transect along two site boundaries covering 220m2. All seedlings, saplings, and tall shrubs >1m (regardless of species) are counted by species and size class along the transect. The previous method used 4m2 circular plots at 20 points on a 10mx10m grid within the control plot for an area of 80m2. The circular method measured all seedlings, saplings, and a certain set of "tall shrubs", regardless of height. The height requirement creates an issue when comparing the old and new methods for early successional stands. For Alnus and Salix this is likely only a problem in the FP0 sites as they are the only sites with a high density of shrubs shorter than 1m. Shrub community changes at these early successional sites should be analyzed using percent cover data. At the later successional sites most Alnus and Salix shrubs are greater than 1m so the transect method likely does not underrepresent density. The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: This data set contains the results of point count surveys of breeding birds in the salt marshes of the Plum Island Estuary. Surveys have been carried out each year in June beginning in 2004 and are ongoing. Currently six circles of 100 m radius are being surveyed. Three of the circles are in plots that had been regularly hayed and three in unhayed plots. Currently only one of the plots is regularly hayed. 85 species recorded as of 2020. Most frequently encountered are Agelaius phoeniceus, Ammospiza caudacuta, Tringa semipalmata. The Plum Island Ecosystems (PIE) LTER is developing a predictive understanding of the response of a linked watershed-marsh-estuarine system in northeastern Massachusetts to rapid environmental change. Over the last 30 years, surface sea water temperatures in the adjacent Gulf of Maine have risen at 3 times the global average, rates of sea-level rise have accelerated, and precipitation has increased. Coupled with these changes in climate and sea level are substantial changes within the rapidly urbanizing watersheds that influence water, sediment, and nutrient delivery to the marsh and estuary. In PIE IV our focus is on: Dynamics of coastal ecosystems in a region of rapid climate change, sea-level rise, and human impacts.
