Institutional Dimensions of Restoring Everglades Water Quality - Social Capital Analysis (FCE), Florida Everglades Agricultural Area from September 2014 to July 2015

These data were compiled through the Institutional Dimensions of Restoring Everglades Water Quality research project. One of the manuscripts generated by this project focused on the social capital dynamics in the Everglades Agricultural Area. These data represent different social capital aspects reflected by the responses of interview subjects. The purpose of analyzing social capital was to explore why and how farmers cooperated given that the state law, the Everglades Forever Act, which required the adoption of best management practices, relied on shared compliance for farmers to improve water quality. The study sought to undrestand how different aspects of social capital (broadly pro-social norms of reciprocity and trust) either encouraged or discouraged farmers to adopt BMPs effectively.

Multiple dimensions of phylogenetic diversity are needed to explain the complex aboveground-belowground diversity relationships

<p>The complex relationship between aboveground and belowground diversity and whether they act as surrogates for one another remains unresolved. Increasing evidence suggests that investigating phylogenetic diversity could provide valuable insights into the interplay between plants and soil microbes, but the proliferation of phylogenetic diversity metrics has hindered comparative studies and the identification of general patterns. To overcome this challenge, we implemented a multi-dimensional framework that classifies phylogenetic diversity metrics into three dimensions: richness, divergence, and regularity, each of which captures different ecological aspects of species differences. Then we applied this framework to investigate the relationship between above and belowground diversity in a subtropical forest in Eastern China. We found that phylogenetic diversity of plant and soil microbes, including bacteria and fungi, were more strongly correlated at the richness and regularity dimension compared with divergence dimension. Further analyses revealed that these observed correlation patterns can be attributed to the influence of soil total phosphorus content, which is the limiting factor of plant and microbial phylogenetic diversity at richness and regularity dimensions. Together, our study demonstrated the necessity of using a multi-dimensional approach to advance our understanding of the complex relationships between plant and soil microbial biodiversity.</p>

Determining aligner-induced tooth movements in three dimensions using clinical data of two patients: datasets

<h2>Abstract</h2> <p>The effectiveness of a series of optically transparent aligners for orthodontic treatments depends on the anchoring of each tooth. In contrast with the roots, the crowns&rsquo; positions and orientations are measurable with intraoral scans, thus avoiding any X-ray dose. Exemplified by two patients, we demonstrate that three-dimensional crown movements could be determined with micrometer precision by registering weekly intraoral scans. The data show the movement and orientation changes in the individual crowns of the upper and lower jaws as a result of the forces generated by the series of aligners. During the first weeks, the canines and incisors were more affected than the premolars and molars. We detected overall tooth movement of up to about 1 mm during a nine-week active treatment. The data on these orthodontic treatments indicate the extent to which actual tooth movement lags behind the treatment plan, as represented by the aligner shapes. The proposed procedure can not only be used to quantify the clinical outcome of the therapy, but also to improve future planning of orthodontic treatments for each specific patient. Raw Data of "Selective laser melting of a Fe-Si-Cr-B-C-based complex-shaped amorphous soft-magnetic electric motor rotor with record dimensions"

<p>This data set includes&nbsp;the RAW DATA of the publication. ABSTRACT: A record large amorphous rotor bearing an intricate 3D-geometry is produced through additive manufacturing via selecting laser melting using a powder of a traditional bulk metallic glass-forming composition of the Fe-Si-Cr-B-C system. Not only does this technique overcome the technical limitations characteristic of casting processes for amorphous alloys, but the possibility to print complex 3D geometries is expected to greatly facilitate the channeling of the magnetic flux, when such component is used as a rotor in an electric machine. The as-built part is characterized in comparison to the powder material as well as as-spun ribbons using a wide range of complementary techniques, including synchrotron x-ray diffraction, calorimetry, electron microscopy as well as room temperature ferromagnetic and hardness testing. The built part has extraordinarily high values of hardness (877 HV) and remarkable high magnetic susceptibility (9.17). This latter feature leads to a better magnetic response in the presence of an external magnetic field evidenced by a faster approach to saturation. The coercivity is small (0.51 kA/M) and the magnetic saturation relatively high (1.29 T). In addition, a large anisotropic effect on the magnetization reaction in connection with the partial crystallization in the melt pool areas is investigated experimentally.</p>

Viral Communication: Longitudinal Survey Data on the Social Dimensions of the COVID-19 Pandemic

<p>This dataset represents the anonymised data collected as part of the Viral Communication (Understand-ELSED) project, which focussed on the social and ethical dimensions of the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany. It includes the three measurements; Phase I (30 October 2020 and 14 December 2020), Phase II (2 March 2021 and 22 March 2021) and Phase III.</p> <p>The first phase built the foundation for the wider suite of data collection approaches and research methods used in the Viral Communication project by allowing respondents to opt-in to multiple research pathways.</p> <p>Overall sample frame (Phase I): <em>N </em>= 1480</p> <p>Phase II sample frame: <em>N </em>= 482</p> <p>Phase III sample frame: <em>N </em>= 426</p> <p>Computed variables such as weights, groupings (experimental set-ups), and composite scores are included in the dataset.</p>

From silk to sand: Multiple dimensions of perceived softness

<p>From silk to sand: Hand explorations are determined by the characteristics of the perceptual space of real-world materials</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Perceiving mechanical properties of objects, i.e., how they react to physical forces, is a crucial ability in many aspects of life, from choosing an avocado to picking your clothes. There is, a wide variety of materials that differ substantially in their mechanical properties. For example, both, silk and sand deform and change shape in response to exploration forces, but each does so in very different ways. Studies show that the haptic perceptual space has multiple dimensions corresponding to the physical properties of textures, however in these experiments the range of materials or exploratory movements were restricted. Here we investigate the perceptual dimensionality in a large set of real materials in a free haptic exploration task. Thirty-two participants actively explored deformable and non-deformable materials with their hands and rated them on several attributes. Using the semantic differential technique, video analysis and linear classification, we found four haptic dimensions, each associated with a distinct set of hand and finger movements during active exploration.
