IODP Expedition 350 P-wave velocity logger (whole round)
<p>P-wave velocity data were measured on whole-round sections on the Whole-Round Multisensor Logger (WRMSL) using pairs of piezoelectric transducers mounted on a caliper system. Measurements may be affected by degassing of pore fluid and microfracturing during core recovery. Report includes P-wave velocity in x-y plane and distance and traveltime between transducers.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Gas safety report
<p>This composite report returns data from two different gas chromatograph configurations (GC3 and NGA). Each row combines data from several measurements made on the same sample at the same time for a particular headspace or vacutainer sample. If data do not exist for a particular expedition, the column does not appear. Gas samples were measured by gas chromatography and either flame ionization detection (GC-FID) or thermal conductivity detection (GC-TCD). Reported analytes may include methane, ethane, ethene, propane, propene, n-butane, i-butane, n-pentane, i-pentane, n-hexane, i-hexane, n-heptane, i-heptane, nitrogen, oxygen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide. When data are available, methane to (ethane + ethene) ratio (C<sub>1</sub>/C<sub>2</sub>�ratio) is reported. IODP Expedition 350 Formation temperature
<p>Formation temperature was measured by the advanced piston corer temperature tool (APCT-3), Sediment Temperature Tool (SET), or sediment temperature pressure tool (SETP) and reduced to in situ temperature and (for SETP) pressure estimates. These data are compiled per instrument run and assigned to a core (the core cut with the APCT-3 cutting shoe or the core following the SET deployment).</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Natural gamma radiation
<p>Natural gamma radiation (NGR) data in the ~0.1 to 3.0 MeV range were measured using eight custom-designed sodium iodide (thallium) [NaI(Tl)] detectors arranged along the core measurement axis at 20 cm intervals. The NGR system uses layers of passive shielding (lead) and active shielding (plastic scintillators and coincidence electronics) to reduce the cosmic-ray signal for low-count analysis of sediment core sections and to obtain the maximum signal-to-noise ratio. Data are reported on a total counts per second basis and the raw spectral files are available as compressed files for later analysis.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Elemental analysis (CHNS)
<p>Fundamental elemental component (total carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and sulfur) fluctuations help define the origin, depositional environment, and diagenetic alteration of source materials. To determine C, H, N, and S, solid samples are reacted with a catalyst, separated by chromatography, and detected by thermal conductivity on a FlashEA 1112 CHNS elemental analyzer. Organic carbon can be directly measured on the elemental analyzer by acidification of the sample to drive off carbonate as carbon dioxide before analyzing. Total organic carbon on this report is measured rather than calculated.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Ion chromatography
<p>Cation and anion concentration in interstitial water samples was measured by ion chromatography using a conductivity detector. Cation analytes include calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium. Anion analytes include chloride, sulfate, and bromide.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Vane shear strength (AVS)
<p>Shear strength was measured on section halves using a GEISA automated vane shear (AVS) frame and device controller. The device is suitable for sediment not affected by cementation (i.e., saturated, clay-rich, soft sediment). Shear strength measurements should be considered only approximate, particularly because the influence of pore pressure changes during the undrained experiment cannot be estimated. Report includes vane shear strength at the sample's failure point, maximum torque angle, penetration direction, and rate of vane rotation.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Alkalinity and pH
<p>Alkalinity was determined by Gran titration with an autotitrator (Metrohm 794 basic Titrino) using 0.1 M HCl at 20 degrees C. Report includes alkalinity, correction factor (if applicable), and pH.</p>

<p>A digital composite image (PNG) is made for each core comprising core sections scanned using a line-scan camera. The composite layout is equivalent to traditional core table photos. Top left is top of core; color and meter rule references are included.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Photomicrographs
<p>Microscopic images of discrete samples were acquired using stereo and upright light microscopes and captured on digital cameras. Image files were uploaded along with a brief description and a record of the microscopic and lighting conditions when the image was taken.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Thin section images
<p>Hard rock and sediment thin section images were acquired using either the JRSO-developed Petrographic Image Capture and Archival Tool (PICAT) imager or (rarely) an upright microscope and a digital camera. Sample images are acquired in unpolarized, polarized, and/or cross-polarized light. Image files are presented compressed by hole.</p>

<p>Close-up images taken by digital cameras as requested by the science party, typically when the section-half image is not sufficient. Close-up photographs of the areas of interest may be taken from whole-round sections, pieces, or section halves in sediments and rock.</p>
IODP Expedition 350 Section-half images
<p>Digital section images were taken of the flat face of split cores on the Section Half Imaging Logger (SHIL) using a linescan camera at a resolution of 20 lines/mm (50 micron pixels). Cores were imaged as soon as possible after splitting to minimize color changes that occur through oxidation and drying. The SHIL produces TIF files as well as reduced-size JPG files. The TIF files are not kept online but users may request them from the <a href="mailto:database@iodp.tamu.edu">IODP-JRSO Data Librarian</a>.</p>

The range of data (resistivity, gamma radiation, velocity, density, borehole images,…) in any hole depends on the scientific objectives and operational constraints.</p>
