High-level Data Products for NEID Solar Observations (January 1, 2021 - June 30, 2024)
<p>High-level data products derived from Sun-as-a-star observations by the NEID Solar Telescope at WIYN Observatory, spanning January 1, 2021 through June 30, 2024. We identify 117,060 observations which are unlikely to be significantly affected by weather, hardware or major calibration issues. This repository provides several high-level data products to the community to aid in the interpretation and inter comparisons of NEID solar observations. These include individual radial velocities (RV) measurements from the Penn State Research Pipeline, RVs binned over solar oscillation timescales, and daily-binned RVs, activity indicators, and cross correlation functions, as well as estimated corrections for differential extinction and the apparent solar rotation velocity. For additional information, see the manscript, "Earths within Reach: Evaluation of Strategies for Mitigating Solar Variability using 3.5 years of NEID Sun-as-a-Star Observations". </p>
Moored current and temperature measurements in the Southern Adriatic Sea at mooring site BB and FF, March 2012-June 2020
<p>This data set includes n.4 files (NetCDF format) containing observational data and related metadata from two mooring sites, sites BB and FF, located in the Southern Adriatic Sea from the period from March 2012 to June 2020. The stand-alone moorings are equipped with an ADCP-RDI system which measures currents along the last 100 meters of the water column and a CTD probe located approximatively 10 m above the bottom. Moorings were configured and maintained for continuous long-term monitoring following the approach of the CIESM Hydrochanges Program (www.ciesm.org/marine/programs/hydrochanges.html). The moorings are currently operational as from 2021 they have joined the southern Adriatic submarine observatory of EMSO-ERIC European Consortium. The data are described in data paper Paladini et al., (In prep): Deep water hydrodynamic observations of two moorings sites on the continental slope of the Southern Adriatic Sea (Mediterranean Sea). </p>
DATABASE OF THE DIGITAL ELEVATION MODELS OF THE SKEIÐARÁRSANDUR KETTLE-HOLES (S ICELAND), JUNE 2022 - PART I
<p>The database concerns kettle-holes of glacial flood origin. They are located at various outwash levels of Skeiðarársandur in S Iceland. The database contains 87 digital elevation models (DEM) with a minimum resolution of 0.05 m and additional files, e.g. field measurements data, frames selected from the video, errors calculation, point cloud, 3D view. These data document the process of obtaining the material using the photogrammetric ‘Structure from Motion’ method from fieldwork conducted in June 2022 through the processing stages in free, mainly open-source software. The data is prepared in the local Cartesian system and includes relative heights, where 0 m is the lowest point of the kettle-hole. The simple technique used, based on filming the landforms with a digital camera, enables mapping of depressions up to 1250 m<sup>2</sup> in the area and a maximum depth of up to 8 m with the assumed high accuracy.</p>

Underwater temperature, light, and dissolved oxygen data from 3 mini-buoys in Lake Sunapee, NH, USA from June to October 2018
Three mini-buoys were deployed during a portion of the ice-off period of 2018 in Lake Sunapee, NH, USA with HOBO temperature sensors at various depths below the water’s surface. Temperature data were collected using HOBO pendant temperature and HOBO pendant temperature/light sensors at descending depths between 0.1m and the nearest whole and/or half meter increments below the water surface and above the sediment/water interface at 10 minute intervals. Two buoys (Georges Mills and Herrick Cove) also had miniDOT (PME) dissolved oxygen and temperature sensors placed 1.75 meters below the surface. The buoys were located in cove areas of the lake in the north east arm of the lake (Herrick Cove, 0.1m – 6.5m), the west side of the southern area of the lake near Lake Sunapee State Beach (State Beach, 0.1m – 2.5m) and the northwest arm of the lake (George’s Mills, 0.1m -7m). This data has been QAQC’d to remove obviously errant data and artifacts of buoy maintenance visits.
Public Transit Infrastructure and Heat Perceptions in Hot and Dry Climates (June-July, 2018; Phoenix, Arizona, USA)
Increasing the use of public transit is an important sustainability goal targeted by many cities worldwide. However, cities in hot and warming climates risk to compromise residents’ health and thermal comfort by incentivizing public transit use and, thus, subjecting them to prolonged heat exposure. This dataset contains data collected during a study on the relationships between public transit infrastructures, microclimate and heat perceptions in the hot and dry city of Phoenix, Arizona. A field campaign at six Phoenix bus stops was held between June 6 and July 27, 2018. Filed campaign consisted of surveying bus riders at bus stops and measuring microclimate variables at sun exposed and shaded locations at bus stops. Standard, advertising and art bus stop types along an arterial Phoenix road in South Mountain Village neighborhood were sampled. Standard and advertising bus stop shelters were metal with no landscaping, art stops had a larger polycarbonate canopy, integrated artwork, trees and landscaping features. Eighty-three participants filled out the survey, 241 microclimate measurements and 1003 surface temperatures at bus stops were taken. Data were collected at three intervals: 7:00-9:00am, 12:00-2:00pm, and 3:00-5:00pm. Differences between sun and shade, as well as heat perceptions were analyzed using statistical methods. The research team has found that certain infrastructure types are more effective in reducing particular microclimate variables, for instance, trees were most effective in reducing air temperature by as much as 1.3°C on average, and shade from vertical advertising sign was most effective in reducing mean radiant temperature by an average of 11°C. Many surface temperatures of sun exposed materials sampled at bus stops exceeded skin burn thresholds. Study participants perceived stops with improved infrastructure and landscaping as slightly cooler. Soil enzyme activities and soil chemistry near and away from alder collected at sites along the Sagavanirktok River, BNZ LTER sites UP3a-c, and sites near BNZ LTER site WDI6, collected June and July 2019
This dataset contains the data and R code associated with Heslop et al. 2021 "Soil Enzymes Illustrate the Effects of Alder Nitrogen Fixation on Soil Carbon Processes in Arctic and Boreal Ecosystems" published in Ecosphere. Activities of acid phosphatase, beta-glucosidase, and phenoloxidase, as well as %N, C, P, and Mo, 15N and 13C natural abundance, resin extractable P, and SOM chemsitry using FTIR spectroscopy were measured for soils taken under alder (Alnus viridis ssp. fruticosa) canopies and 5 m away. Samples were collected in the Arctic at sites near Sagwon Bluffs and the Lupine-Sagavanirktok river confluence as well as in the boreal forest at BNZ LTER sites UP3a-c and at sites located near BNZ LTER site WDI6.

This dataset provides information on stationary video cameras set within the study area from 2011 to 2012, including animals viewed along with relevent environmental and camera data. These data provide insight into teleost communities that utilize various habitats within Shark Bay.
Cichlasoma urophthalmus microsatellite fragment size collected from the Florida Everglades (FCE) and Central America from June 2010 to March 2013
Fragment sizes for 17 microsatellite markers obtained from samples of Cichlasoma urophthalmus collected from fin clippings of fish caught by angling and/or cast netting within the Florida Everglades and Central America. DNA was extracted, amplified and sizes of microsatellite fragments were rounded to nearest unit. Data were used to determine population genetic structure using GenAlex, Structure and DIYABC programs.
Mangrove soil phosphorus addition experiment from June 2013 to August 2013 at the mangrove peat soil mesocosms (FCE), Key Largo, Florida - Nutrients in Porewater, Soil and Roots
Sea levels in South Florida are conservatively predicted to rise by 0.60 m by 2060. The key mechanisms that maintain coastal peatland elevation against increasing sea level are organic matter accumulation via plant production and mineral sedimentation rates (Smoak et al. 2013). Although coastal mangrove soils are regularly inundated with seawater, little is know about the drivers of carbon sequestration (above or below ground) versus atmospheric efflux under different conditions of salinity and elevated phosphorus (P) associated with sea-level rise and storm surge. A recent study using mangrove peat soils found that seawater inundation reduced soil carbon efflux losses and salinity concentration had little effect on carbon retention or loss pathways. The next logical steps are to understand how plant-soil interactions affect above and below ground carbon processes, as well as how increases in P associated with storm surge from the Gulf of Mexico will influence physical, chemical and biological components of mangrove soils that are associated with above and belowground carbon processes. We will manipulate P in inundated peat soil mesocosms with disturbed and undisturbed red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) seedlings to identify some of the fundamental mechanisms of soil elevation and carbon cycling given expected increases in seawater-based P availability in South Florida coastal mangroves.
Field survey and long-term measurements of biological, geomorphic, and hydrologic properties across ecosystem states in a non-tidal, salinizing peat marsh in Everglades National Park, Florida, USA, June 2018 - ongoing
This dataset package details a field survey and long-term measurements of biological, geomorphic, and hydrologic properties across ecosystem states found within a salinizing, non-tidal peat marsh in the coastal Everglades. There are four datasets included: FCE1250_Lamb_AltStableState_HydroGeo includes point measurements of soil surface elevation, bedrock elevation, soil depth, water depth, and porewater salinity across ecosystem states: emergent marsh (sawgrass dominated), submerged marsh (submerged aquatic vegetation), and unvegetated open water. The survey was conducted between November 2019 to January 2020. FCE1250_Lamb_AltStableState_Bio contains plot-scale (1 m^2) biological measurements from emergent marsh (sawgrass). Biological measurements (total sawgrass, average individual sawgrass biomass, and total sawgrass aboveground biomass), are inherently plot-level but geomorphic and hydrologic measurements were averaged (n = 3) for each plot. Standard deviations are provided. FCE1250_Lamb_AltStableState_Bio_LongTerm contains biological plot-scale (1 m^2) measurements at a bi-monthly timestep from Nov 2019 - July 2022 from a subset of plots (n = 9) included in the FCE_1250_Lamb_AltStableState_Bio dataset. Each bi-monthly measurement is the average value across all 9 nine plots. Standard deviations are also included. FCE_1250_Lamb_AltStableState_SETMH contains long-term measurements of soil surface elevation change and vertical accretion from surface elevation change and marker horizon plots from June 2018 - May 2023. Average and standard errors across all plots are included as well as measurements from each plot. Also included is the cumulative number of dry days based on the average soil surface elevation for all plots. Data collection for all datasets is complete, except for FCE_1250_Lamb_AltStableState_SETMH. SET-MH measurements are still ongoing.
June 2001 surface water phytoplankton productivity for 10 Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER sampling sites
Water samples were collected by Niskin bottle or by hand from just beneath the surface during low tide surveys at or near 10 GCE-LTER sampling sites in June 2001. The incorporation of radiolabelled bicarbonate in response to varying levels of illumination was measured using a photosynthetron apparatus. Photosynthesis-irradiance (P-I) curves constructed from these measurements will be used in conjunction with algal biomass and PAR versus depth measurements to estimate instantaneous gross primary production in the water at each GCE sampling site. This study was part of the GCE-LTER hydrographic monitoring program, and will be repeated quarterly.
Benthic chlorophyll concentrations and gross oxygenic photosynthesis rates in surficial estuarine intertidal sediments at sites on Sapelo Island and near the Satilla River from January, April, June and July 2001
Seasonal patterns of estuarine creek-bank and intertidal marsh benthic chlorophyll and gross oxygenic photosynthesis were investigated at several sites on Sapelo Island and the Satilla River in coastal Georgia. Benthic chlorophyll were measured in the bulk surface centimeter depth of sediment. Gross oxygenic photosynthesis rates were integrated over 100 um resolution measurements below the sediment water interface using oxygen microelectrodes. Several relatively pristine sites on Sapelo Island (Moses Hammock, Dean Creek and Marine Institute) and a presumably heavily impacted site (Dover Bluff) show similar levels of chlorophyll concentration and photosynthesis rate across bank and marsh zones with higher photosynthetic biomass and activity in the spring season. Nutrient inputs to these study sites are also suggested as a control on gross oxygenic photosynthesis rates as evidenced by a relationship between photosynthesis rate and land-use.

June 2001 surface water bacterial abundance at ten Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER sampling sites
Surface water samples were collected during low tide surveys near ten Georgia Coastal Ecosystem LTER sampling sites in June, 2001. Unfiltered subsamples were immediately preserved with buffered formalin and refrigerated for transport to the laboratory. The abundance of bacteria in each sample was determined using an epifluorescence microscope by counting DAPI-stained cells retained on a 0.2µm polycarbonate filter. This study was part of the GCE-LTER hydrographic monitoring program, and will be repeated quarterly.
June 2001 surface water dissolved organic carbon concentrations at ten Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER sampling sites
Water samples were collected by Niskin bottle from just beneath the surface during tidal surveys at ten GCE-LTER sampling sites in June, 2001. Water samples were immediately filtered through ashed Whatman GF/F filters and three replicate samples were acidified, refrigerated and transported to the laboratory for analysis. Concentrations of dissolved organic carbon were measured in each sample by high temperature combustion and chromatographic analysis using a Shimadzu TOC analyzer. This study was part of the GCE-LTER hydrographic monitoring program, and will be repeated quarterly.
June 2003 bin-averaged CTD profiles for the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Doboy Sound transect
Two hydrographic surveys were performed on June 18, 2003, along an east-to-west transect through Doboy Sound near Sapelo Island, Georgia (Doboy Sound Transect, GCE-DB). Vertical CTD profiles were collected at approximately 2km intervals from -2km to 12km along the transect during low tide and high tide conditions. Conductivity, temperature, pressure and optical backscatter were measured, and depth, salinity and sigma-t were calculated for each profile. Data values collected on the upcast were deleted, and the remaining data were averaged within 0.5m depth bins and interpolated to produce a smooth profile for contouring. This data set was collected as part of the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER quarterly hydrographic monitoring program.
