Soil water content measurements and rainfall data for plots with experimentally altered precipitation and nutrient inputs at the Jornada Basin LTER site, 2011-ongoing
This dataset contains soil volumetric water content data collected starting in 2011 for a long-term precipitation and nutrient manipulation experiment at the Jornada Basin LTER site in southern New Mexico, U.S.A. This experiment uses precipitation shelters and irrigation treatments to manipulate water inputs, and fertilization treatments to alter nitrogen input to 2.5 x 2.5 meter plots in a desert grassland. Soil sensors are installed at surface and deep soil layers in each plot and collect hourly averages of volumetric water content using a time-domain reflectometry method. This dataset contains daily averages. This is an ongoing study and the dataset will be updated yearly.
MCR LTER: Coral Reef: 3D photogrammetry improves measurement of growth and biodiversity patterns in branching corals; data for Curtis 2023, Coral Reefs
These data and code were generated in support of the manuscript: Curtis JS, Galvan JW, Primo A, Osenberg CW, and AC Stier, Coral Reefs. We collected manual and photogrammetry-based measurements of coral size and volume to examine which method best described short-term coral growth and links between coral habitat and biodiversity of CAFI (coral-associated fishes and invertebrates). This study was completed between August and December 2019 on an experimental array located in the back reef off the south shore of Moorea, French Polynesia. These data were published in Coral Reefs, analyses and full methods descriptions of this model can be found in the manuscript “3D photogrammetry improves measurement of growth and biodiversity patterns in branching corals”. This manuscript uses data collected by the U.S. National Science Foundation's (NSF) Moorea Coral Reef Long Term Ecological Research (MCR LTER) site under Grant No. OCE 2224354 (and earlier awards). Additional financial support to the MCR LTER site was provided through a generous gift from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. Research was completed under permits issued by the French Polynesian Government (Délégation à la Recherche) and the Haut-commissariat de la République en Polynésie Francaise (DTRT) (Protocole d'Accueil 2005-2023).
Physical and biogeochemical oceanography data from underway measurements with an AquaLine Ferrybox during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE).
<p><strong>Dataset abstract</strong></p> <p>This data set contains measurements from various sensors installed on the Aqualine Ferrybox system that was connected to the underway seawater supply in the Southern Ocean during the Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition (ACE). Data was collected continuously except for periods when the pump of the underway system was switched off or the system was turned off. Data collection covers all three cruise legs in the period 24th December 2016 to 18th March 2017. Data collected with the CTG MiniPack CTD-F are temperature, salinity, pressure, and turbidity. Data collected by the Aanderaa oxygen optode include dissolved oxygen and oxygen saturation. An SBE 18 sensor measured pH. The CTG UniLux fluorometer measured chlorophyll-a concentration. All data has been quality controlled and post-cruise calibrated. Data is provided at 1-minute intervals along the cruise track. In addition, we provide satellite data (sea-surface temperature, sea-surface height, geostrophic velocity, sea-ice concentration) that was interpolated to the cruise-track and an estimate of frontal positions to supplement this underway data set where data was missing or for additional information. This circumpolar data set provides insights into the circumpolar surface ocean conditions and biogeochemistry of the Southern Ocean during one austral summer season.</p> <p>Note on version 1.0: The first version of this data set only contains temperature, salinity, pressure, and potential density in the post-processed file, since post-processing and quality control for turbidity, chlorophyll-a, dissolved oxygen, oxygen saturation, and pH have not been finalized. These variables will be added to the post-processed data file in a future release.</p> <p><strong>Dataset license</strong></p> <p>This dataset of physical and biogeochemical oceanography underway measurements from ACE is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0) whose full text can be found at https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</p>
Particle concentration data from: Long-term measurement of sub-3nm particles and their precursor gases in the boreal forest
<p>The knowledge of the dynamics of sub-3nm particles in the atmosphere is crucial for our understanding of first steps of atmospheric new particle formation. Therefore, accurate and stable long-term measurements of the smallest atmospheric particles are needed. In this study, we analyzed over five years of particle concentrations in size classes 1.1–1.7 nm and 1.7–2.5 nm obtained with the Particle Size Magnifier (PSM) and three years of precursor vapor concentrations measured with the Chemical Ionization Atmospheric Pressure Interface Time-of-Flight mass spectrometer (CI-APi-ToF) at the SMEAR II station in Hyytiälä, Finland. The results show that the 1.1–1.7 nm particle concentrations have a daytime maximum during all seasons, which is due to increased photochemical activity. There are significant seasonal differences in median concentrations of 1.7–2.5 nm particles, underlining the different frequency of new particle formation between seasons. Aerosol precursor vapors have notable diurnal and seasonal differences as well. Sulfuric acid and highly oxygenated organic molecule (HOM) monomer concentrations have clear daytime maxima, while HOM dimers have their maxima during the night. HOM concentrations for both monomers and dimers are the highest during summer and the lowest during winter. Higher median concentrations during summer result from increased biogenic activity in the surrounding forest. Sulfuric acid concentrations are the highest during spring and summer, with autumn and winter concentrations being two to three times lower. A correlation analysis between the sub-3nm concentrations and aerosol precursor vapor concentrations indicates that HOMs, particularly their dimers, and sulfuric acid play a significant role in new particle formation in the boreal forest. Our analysis also suggests that there might be seasonal differences in new particle formation pathways that need to be investigated further. </p> <p> </p>
Dataset and program scripts for the reproducibility of the hierarchical data structure file. Related to the manuscript entitled: Hierarchical Representation of Measurement Data, Metrological Uncertainty and Metadata for Calibrated Battery Tests
<p>We present an interoperable hierarchical data representation for battery tests, leading to improved scalability of data transmission and enhanced data accessibility and comprehensibility for both human interpretation and machine processing. The hierarchical data format includes the raw trace electrical measurement data, the metrological calibration and uncertainty data, the metadata such as experimental settings, instruments and software versions, as well as post-processed data such as electrochemical model fit parameters. This data representation allows repetition of the battery test under the exact same conditions such that identical results are achieved within defined error bounds. This is in line with the general F.A.I.R. data approach and provides repeatability and traceability in the battery value chain. As an application of the hierarchical data representation, we show the classification of cells as pass/fail being performed with quantitative confidence levels. We demonstrate the complete workflow of establishing the hierarchical data structure for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), starting from metrological traceability of the calibration and uncertainty analysis towards the storage of the structured data as a single integrated file that preserves the hierarchical data format.</p>

Reference percentiles for carotid measures of subclinical atherosclerosis in children and adolescents – Data from the KiGGS study
<p>The dataset presents reference centile data for carotid intima-media thickness as well as four carotid stiffness parameters. The reference percentiles are based on data from the German Health Interview and Examination Survey for Children and Adolescents 2003-2006 (KiGGS). KiGGS started as a cross-sectional study conducted between 2003 and 2006 which was based on a nationally representative sample and aimed at obtaining comprehensive data on the health of children and adolescents aged 0 to 17 years living in Germany. Detailed information on study design and conduct has been published in peer reviewed journals as well as detailed papers on individual parameters. The documentation provides relevant references.<br> <br> 11 years later, KiGGS Wave 2 (2014-2017) was conducted as an interview and examination survey. Carotid sonography was attempted at follow-up (KiGGS2) in all 4,798 participants of the KiGGS cohort aged 14 to 28 years. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) was successfully measured in 4,709 participants. Reference centiles for the distensibility coefficient, stiffness index ß, Young's elastic modulus and Peterson's elastic modulus were computed using data on 4,305 adolescents and young adults aged 14 to 28.</p>
