Data and Supplementary Plots for A Shallow Water Model Exploration of Atmospheric Circulation on Sub-Neptunes

<p>This repository contains geopotential maps, zonal wind plots, gifs, and data for the ensemble of possible sub-Neptunes presented in the main manuscript. The data, individual plots, and plot grids are based on the averages of the last 100 simulated days. The data are in the pickle format (see https://docs.python.org/3/library/pickle.html)<br> The gifs are based on the last 1000 simulated hours. These figures and gifs support the analysis presented in the main manuscript.</p>

Neptun OT 1491 television receiver

The Neptun is a mains-powered television set designed for reception of television programmes, equipped with the differential method of audio reception and a black-and-white 35 MK 1 CRT with a screen diagonal of 35 cm. In terms of the electrical system, it is a heterodyne with 16 vacuum tubes and 4 diodes. The device design was developed by the design team of the Technical Development Resource of the Gdańskie Zakłady Radiowe: inż. Krupa, inż. Kula, inż. Tadeusz Pietrzykowski, inż. Muszyński, inż. Chmielewski, and inż. Z. Witczak. According to information presented in an internal paper of the enterprise of 1958, the Neptun television receiver was intended as an upgraded version of the Belweder TV set. Neptun TV sets originated as part of the so-called 'cosmic series", where models were named after celestial bodies: Helios, Jowisz, Saturn or Uran. Manufacturer: Gdańskie Zakłady Radiowe Gezar, 1959-1963 Inv. No. MIM1487/VI-193 Model prepared on the basis of photogrammetric measurements Licence: CC BY-NC-SA Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Spectrally resolved helium absorption from the extended atmosphere of a warm Neptune exoplanet

<p>Stellar heating causes atmospheres of close-in exoplanets to expand and escape. These extended atmospheres are difficult to observe because their main spectral signature &ndash; neutral hydrogen at ultraviolet wavelengths &ndash; is strongly absorbed by interstellar medium. We report the detection of the near-infrared triplet of neutral helium in the transiting warm Neptune-mass exoplanet HAT-P-11b using ground-based, high-resolution observations. The helium feature is repeatable over two independent transits, with an average absorption depth of 1.08&plusmn;0.05%. Interpreting absorption spectra with 3D simulations of the planet&rsquo;s upper atmosphere suggests it extends beyond 5 planetary radii, with a large scale height and a helium mass loss rate&nbsp;≲&nbsp;3x105&nbsp;g‧s&minus;1. A net blueshift of the absorption might be explained by high-altitude winds flowing at 3 km‧s&minus;1from day to night-side.</p>

Data of smoothed particle hydrodynamic giant impact simulations for the paper "A super-massive Neptune-sized planet"

<p>This dataset contains data from the article:</p> <p>L. Naponiello et al.&nbsp; 2023 &quot;A&nbsp;super-massive Neptune-sized planet&quot;. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-023-06499-2</p> <p>The dataset comprises initial conditions and final snapshots of the smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations selected in the paper.</p> <p>All the simulations were performed using&nbsp;<a href="https://swift.com">SWIFT</a>&nbsp;with initial condtions generated using&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/srbonilla/WoMa">WoMa</a>. The planets are modeled with forsterite core (see&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/ststewart/aneos-forsterite-2019">Link</a>),&nbsp; water middle layer (see <a href="https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2020A%26A...643A.105H/abstract">link</a>), and H&amp; He mixture atmosphere top layer (see <a href="https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/1980JGR....85..225H/abstract">link</a>).</p> <p>We simulated three different pre-impact compositions: water-rich by mass (22.5 % rock, 67.5 % water, 10 % H/He), equal rock and water (45 % rock, 45 % water, 10 % H/He), and rock-rich (67.5 % rock, 22.5 % water, 10 % H/He).&nbsp;These are located in the &quot;data.zip&quot; file under the folders &quot;water rich&quot;, &quot;equal_water_rock&quot;, and &quot;rock_rich&quot;, respectively. In each simulation subfolder, &quot;snapshot_0000.hdf5&quot; is the initial condition file, where the target and impactor are separated by a distance that allows contact to occur 1 hour after the start of the simulation. &quot;snapshot_00xx.hdf5&quot; is the final snapshot of that simulation, where &quot;xx&quot; is the simulation time in hours. For example, &quot;snapshot_0015.hdf5&quot; is the snapshot taken after 15 hours of the simulation.</p>
